Not sure. Making the pass through the lines requires the receiver to be in sufficient space to receive it and do something with it. That in turn requires other players to play their part in movement, creating space etc. It's not just a pass but part of a pattern of play.

Thus the 'chart' is also comparing the style of one manager in his second season with the style of a new manager early in his first season. Two different styles. We know that Ange, not unlike Ossie Ardiles, developed attacking patterns at the expense of defence, set pieces, etc. That's how we ended up 17th in the league last season while scoring the 7th highest number of goals.

Frank is doing something quite different in a development plan he has made quite explicit. Deal with defence first, plus other 'easy' gains, set pieces, long throws, etc. He's also encouraging selective pressing, flank play and crosses, though these involves combination play, which takes time to develop – we can see this, though far from perfect (yet), is already in process.

Whether he's discouraging playing through the middle is an interesting question. I suspect he's developing the patterns in this regard, but this kind of play is at an early stage and will take the most time.

I saw somewhere that Frank is comparable to Poch at this stage in his first season. Arguably Poch inherited a stronger squad, but I recall he didn't get going properly until maybe two-thirds of the way through the season. I suspect Frank will be the same.

That's when we'll see a different kind of football and different kinds of 'chart'.
A different kind of football starts when, the ub recruits different types of footballer.
Can't see that happening in January so, will have to suffer this until next season.

I have watched him play this season. Ive also watched him play for RB and the Dutch and he looked brilliant. Why cant Frank get that sort of form out of him? There is a player in there but we are not getting to see it.

Yeah because the PL is fucking hard. Wirtz came from the same level as Simons with even more hype and has flopped utterly so far.

Simons has the talent to make it here but his being a ghost is one of the main reasons we can’t get going in attack. We need him to get up to speed very quickly because the other options are not ideal.

Exactly.

The football IQ of this fanbase has plummeted.

It's truly alarming.

Twats like Don Pedro writing off players like Xavi without taking into account the change in league and adaptation time etc really don’t help themselves.

Fucking stupid. Starting to really dislike the small section of our so called fans who do this.

Eze has been playing in the PL for years. Xavi has been playing for about two months 😆

oh just shut up and watch the game

Good on corners, slow buildup and defense. I thought the offside was correct, both players bumping and Grealish was grabbing Vicario’s arm. If you grab a keepers arm (or undo his glove… the goal should be disallowed).

I think the criticism of Bentancur is a bit harsh as it’s clear Frank wants to use a U shape and shift side to side to open up space. It would be nice to go through the middle sometimes though.

If we win this, it will be an amazing win as Everton are good this year.

Credit to Frank. Van de Ven was pretty useless at offensive set pieces under Ange. Big change in him this season and now he has 5 goals before the end of October! Frank actually made a bet with him about scoring from a header earlier this season.

I think he's probably getting the most out of this team, I still think he needs to let the handbrake off at home but we'll done my gaffer.

Has had to deal with an attacking crisis due to injuries.

- now joint top scorers in the league with 17 goals.

Had to turn around a destructive, demoralising losing record/habit this club had acquired and a defence that had not acted like a defence for two years, or been drilled as such.

- now second best defensive record in the league.

We currently have the best away record in the league - haven't lost away.

Only lost 2 games so far this season.

Only team to have beaten Leeds in their stadium in over a year.

Only team to have beaten Everton in their stadium so far this season.

We are 3rd in the table after quarter of the season.

Above City, United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

I tell you what, the sooner we get rid of this cunt the better off we'll be.

Boring the living shite out of me, but we are third, so can’t really complain too much.
Ange’s chaos ball was entertaining initially, but it quickly proved unsustainable. With half the team sidelined by injuries, and those players failing to return to their previous form - it ultimately became suicideball.

With Frank, we have stabilised our defence and somehow still scoring goals without several key players (currently joint top with City and Chelsea) and experiencing fewer injuries. It’s a more sustainable approach, particularly given the limitations of an otherwise average squad.

In conclusion: Frank out.
