Praise the Lord.

Indeed but this discussion started from whether he will be under pressure if we lose to Woolwich not where we finish...

If we lose to them the board aren't going to suddenly wet themselves unlike the fans, that was my point.
Fair enough but when Nuno Espírito Santo badly lost to the goons there was a mood to get rid of him from the fans, I think the next match he lost 1-0 to Man United and that was it, 9th in the league and four months in the job.

He didn't get sacked in isolation of the Woolwich result and when he eventually went he was replaced with a world class manager, and he wasn't wanted at the club anyway, he got hired because we were desperate and was a placeholder for Conte.

I hate when people bring this comparison up, it's so disingenuous lol

I think if Nuno had beaten the goons and maybe Man United he would not have got the sack. It's not me being disingenuous lol

There's no evidence that Conte wasn't just quickly hired.

Didn't he get sacked after the Manchester United home game we spaffed 0-3?

I seem to remember loud chants of; "Daniel Levy get out of our club" during the game?

30th October 2021.

Played 10 won 5 lost 5.

It was the manner of that defeat to United, off the back of losing 1-3 away to Woolwich and 0-1 away to West Ham that did it of course.

Not because the fans were furious with the miser for cheaping it out with Nuno having let Conte walk away.

Is that what you are saying?

To be fair, we absolutely must put a performance in against the filth, same as we would against any other team, but moreso as it's them.

"Expecting" a win, when you take into account our current arcs, is the absurdity.
I expect us to lose against them. And lose badly. If that’s the case, Frank should be under pressure. He should be under pressure no matter what, as he’s paid multi millions to manage a top football club.

If we see another Chelsea performance, he has questions to answer. But he won’t be in danger of the sack this season.

Frank was Brentford manager at the time and off the back of another good season by Brentford's standards. Santo was out of a job when we signed him.

Kane was doing his treacherous sh!t and we were in a mess.

The situations are vastl different and I think Frank will get more time, as he should, regardless of the game with that lot.

But even if I was an avid Frank fan I would not be silly enough to believe that if we lost a lot of games in succession or at the end of the season were 8th to 10th or lower, and had done nothing in the 2 remaining cup competitions, that Frank's position would not be in jeopardy.

This is about reasonableness, and trying to step outside of subjectivity.

We should all simply want Frank to be here for the next 3 to 5 years, because it will only mean one thing if he is

Well sure but Nuno was like our 8th choice in the first place, on a short contract and there was a world class manager able and willing to join us. Context is key and the whole situation is totally different with Frank. The board clearly see him as potentially leading a long term project.

If Frank keeps losing at home, we get battered by Woolwich and things don't improve, there's definitely gonna be pressure. But he's obviously gonna be given so much more time and leeway than Nuno. Even if things are bad, there simply isn't an obvious replacement and we're better off with Frank than an interim or another stop-gap.

I think things would have to be proper dire for him to get sacked mid-season. Like we're in 15th after 25 games, out of the cups and the whole situation has become completely toxic - that kinda thing.

Maybe, that's speculative though, all we know is that Conte eventually came in, we were trying to get him all Summer and he eventually agreed when we got desperate, this is nothing like Frank's situation

ok

Are you sure Levy didn't see him as the cheapest option?

Able to work on a shoestring budget?

Polishing turds?

:gallashmm:
Tbh yeah I imagine that probably was a part of their thinking.

"If we can't spend as big as City, Pool and Chelsea, let's get the guy that's known for improving players and massively exceeding expectations on a limited budget"

Jury's still out on whether he can scale-up to Spurs ofc but I think they're definitely hoping he's a long term fix. That's what you hope for with any manager unless they're hotheads like Jose and Conte that you know will scorch the earth within 2-3 years.

Young Dane has had all of 10 mins ist team football so far this year and dare say Mikey would be in same boat.
Young Mikey has had on recent data that i can see more than 922 mins(Approx give or take 10 games worth of game time ie ist team)
That includes European game time also .
For an 18 yr old that is invaluable to his future career in the tough new environment which he has chosen and hopefully the club will reap the benefits down the track.
I myself like nothing better than seeing the young lads getting valuable minutes and proving hopefully their worth to the team and its pretty special when its one of their own.
Nothing worse seeing the draining of confidence of a young player left on the bench week after week.

'For an 18 yr old that is invaluable to his future career in the tough new environment which he has chosen and hopefully the club will reap the benefits down the track'

Oh the irony.

Didn't Shankly say "if they are good enough they are old enough'?

Wayne Rooney was 16 years old when he made his Premier League debut for Everton against Tottenham on August 17, 2002. He made a significant impact in his first game, and a few months later, he scored the winning goal against Woolwich on October 19, 2002, a moment that made him famous.
