This has been explained .. no Europe, a rocking start which followed a regression to the norm when momentum was lost, and a massively productive still firing son contributing like thirty goals.

The signings since have been duds, we have lost the talisman. This team with a regressed Son was seen in action last season and it finished 17th. Now we have no Son.

We are underperforming but fifth was a perfect storm that we clung on to by our fingernails in a very closely packed top 8/9. Our form for like a year and a half has been bottom half muck.

Partly due to the incompetence of Ange but the players also aren’t great.

I don’t really care tbh

The point that really matters is that 14th is a massive underperformance. And to make it worse, the sample size for xG is only getting bigger now and showing us to be lucky to have scored as much as we have. As shit as people say these players are, they are finishing and preventing goals at a more efficient rate than xG suggests they should be.

If it was the other way around and we were seeing attacking football, with good underlying numbers, then that would be much more encouraging IMO

I think that was entirely the right approach, get us a solid foundation and build from there.

And for me, immediate impressions, our press was instantly a lot better. No more headless chicken run into the ground stuff, it was controlled and meaningful.

And I didnt mind the heightened focus on throw ins and set pieces, these are things all teams should try to maximise - small margins that make a difference. I liked the idea we were taking a "no stone left unturned" approach.

Since then though?

All a bit shit really, isnt it?

Absolutely no meaningful shape in possession. No real attacking intent - or idea - at all. Defensive work is failing....

..and worst of all theres no signs of actual, meaningful, progress.
This would suggest to me that a number of the squad have lost belief in Frank already?

That sounds like we are OVERperforming, not underperforming.

This squad is shit, we have a goalkeeper that makes howlers every other game, we hardly have any defenders that can defend, hardly any midfielders that can play ball, and hardly any attackers that can score.

I never tought i would say this, but i think we have missed Madders, Kulusevski, and Solanke a LOT.

Irrelevant really tho because his injury would’ve prevented him playing anyway

Eh? Then then was no point in his transfer.

He played for them 8 times before the season ended and signed a permanent deal. He just got his contract terminated at the start of the next season and fucked off to the netherlands, so any "homesickness" could have been solved by going on holiday, such as it was temporary

Whatever it is, this squad is better than 14th in the league.

If Frank doesn't start showing signs of getting them above 14th, then he's clearly the wrong coach for this squad.

Well even that seems to be an improvement on some of our players right now... Has Frank confirmed recently that Solanke still has both of his? :(

EDIT: Btw, WTF does that have to do with the Thomas Frank thread? Shouldn't it be in the winter transfer thread? Well, after it's been proof-read and corrected I mean (I doubt that player is on €35m, whatever that even means...) 😉
You are right. Techically it's not the right thread but we were discussing the lack of a striker and talks about reinforcements were also present is this thread.
Regarding the price, it's the one quoted by Tranfermarkt.
