He says this shit again and again - Id love to see him explain the progress he has made and how he sees us getting to "scoring a lot of goals" and "dominating"

Because right now his whole ethos is the opposite

Sorry, you can't say things are this way because we have a lot of players out when this is how he's preferred to play all season.

Also, how about trying some new things? Begging for a hint of intent

So fucking bored of his words and his football. Sounds so hollow and still naive fans took them in and think our injured players coming back with better signings will fulfil what he beautifully painted.

Just get fuck and stop those wishy washy 50% is this so 50% must be that kind of shit and coach them into front foot attacking with through balls behind defenders space.

Jesus. He's so fucking dull. So fucking lack of charisma - the worse of all our managers.

Brilliant quotes from Thomas here....

"So that's where we are right now. It's unfortunately very boring, but that's the fact. We need to do everything we can to put an attacking, intense, front-footed performance out against Sunderland in two days' time. I'll do everything I can to make sure we do that. And if we do that and get three points – so seven from three (games), which is very good, which would be a very good output. So that's the aim.

"By the way, against a Sunderland team, that’s done unbelievably well. And I know for a fact, because, when I say attitude, I'm confident in my own skill set. I'm also very humble about who I am, where we are, and what we need to do. And I know what we're facing tomorrow against Sunderland, because I've been there myself. That's going to be tough, but we need to be on it. That's a long answer, actually."

So to summarise... we are boring and Sunderland are brilliant... in other words... getting ready to give us another shit show on Sunday!!!

Not sure why he has never given 4-4-2 a go, considering how little interest he has in utilizing the midfield area and how dire the options are there anyway. Might as well have another striker up front that we can punt it to.

That's also his preferred shape out of possession; yet using 3 central midfielders at all times leads to absurd situations like these where Gray is the highest man up the pitch:

Happens with Bergvall too.

Cause the strikers are also gash

We have 2 fit ones Richie who cant hold a ball up to save his life

And RKM who's here cause he had fuck all else to do and has scored 0 PL goals

The squad is just a fucking mess

Possibly, but the more compact you are, the less space is available, so it's typically harder to possess. Staying compact is more of a defensive philosophy and being spread out is the attacking philosophy because extra space means better dribbling opportunities and passing angles.

Yeah, there are very few clever patterns of play, some of that is coaching and some of that is the lack of creativity and ability in the squad.
I was just speaking more generally, Im aware I can get a bit wordy and tend to find if I were to write a full tactical thesis - it would piss a bunch of people off, but also derail the thread massively.

In essence, if the team play closer together - they have more options and support. Probably compact wasnt the right word.

Im thinking about a little pass and move, people being close enough and available for passes - and not giant chasms between the front and back of the team.

And ultimately my point is the manager has what he has, and its up to him to get the best out of it - I think this team is capable of far more than we are seeing - even if that "extra" comes from shape and tactics etc rather than individual skill

You don't necessarily need coached attacking patterns to be successful, see Mourinho who basically just let extremely attacking players create on their own, but the level of players we have is not good enough for this.
He did, but - it was all within the framework of his ehtos still. They knew when they could go and when they had to defend, they knew roughly where they should be positioned etc...

...he just didnt go full automations like Conte does for example. Allowed them a certain freedom, not full freedom...

The team could certainly be coached and playing better, but at some point we have to stick with a manager. Frank hasn't given too much evidence it should be him, but we've been going backwards for a decade and it's going to be really hard to get back to where we were as a club.

I agree, Id love a long term plan.

Id be absolutely delighted if the club announced a structure, a bloody constitution even, as to what they want to be and what proper spurs looks like

Id love them to commit to it, get some continuity going, and get the right people in place

If progress is being made - absolutely settle in and stick with the manager. Honestly I think as a fanbase we are desperate for it.

For me though, Frank is not that guy

He 100% knew we will lose games, he knew Sunderland is doing exceptionally well, blah blah..

He never fails to disclaim and pad his arguments, then lowering all expectations and told us it will still be better than last season 17th.

He was extremely tetchy in the press conference this afternoon, looks rattled. If he can’t handle the pressure of playing to win against a medium team like Brentford what chance do we have?

Yes, the players we have available are not very good. He makes this very clear in every press conference, and it’s true. But sometimes average players can get the job done if you arrange and instruct them properly. He just isn’t doing that. I don’t give a fuck how many games we lost last season or how shit our attackers are, we should never play like Stoke under Tony Pulis.

[LINEUP]Vicario
Porro Romero VDV Spence
Kudos Paulinha Bentancur Odobert
RKM Richarlison [/LINEUP]

Everyone will hate the two in the middle but I imagine Paulinha would sit deep protecting the defence and it would be more of a 4, 1, 3, 2 kind of setup. I’m unsure if it suits Romero’s skillset. He could be the DM instead of Paulinha and Danso could come on to help with aerial duels.

I think we should just have a group watch party for these sorts of matches in our match thread instead of having to watch the terrible games that are happening in the present.

Such a great game. And remember very clearly sitting in my living room, jaw slightly dropped, thinking: "This Kane kid is a genuinely going to be a superstar"

Feels a very very long time ago now...

really sounds like he's on the ropes with the press at this point. they smell blood and he's saying the wrong things. meltdown incoming...

Definitely has that beginning of the end vibe...

Either he turns things round, and fast, or he's done

Because after then next few games, even better performances will be brushed away if followed by bad - he wont have any credit in the bank at all

Arteta. Pep. Unai. Slot. Le Bris. Moyes. Glasner. Silva. Howe. Hurzeler. Iraola. Dyche. Nuno...that's 13 PL managers who are undoubtedly better than Frank.

Probably can add Maresca and Amorim to the list, though Chelsea & especially United aren't what they used to be, but I think it's mostly on the execs at them clubs.

Think Frank is down there with Andrews (who is a newbie), Scotty Parker (who has no money) and Farke.

Rob Edwards is probably the only manager he's ahead of, but then again the guy's only managed Luton & Wolves in the PL...and both squads were so short on quality.

365m worth of players + Palhinha started yesterday. Have a guess how much the Brentford starting eleven cost?
There is no excuse for drab, boring, turgid football. If you gave me 10 minutes with the players at HT we'd of won that game.
