I think you’ll find many teams over the course of history where teams had no great stars but could play great football. Look at the 80s teams Poland and Denmark. Even in the PL we have had teams like Brighton, Bmouth, Swindon etc all try to playe good passing football without a superstar play maker.

Not sure why Swindon are creeping in there from the early 90s scene, but Bournemouth and Brighton are regularly selling midfielders for this reason

I’d worry far more about our play on the pitch than overanalyzing interviews.
What's happening on the pitch is absolute rubbish. Nothing to analyse. 6 months of no identity and rubbish performances under Frank where its gone from worse to worse.

The hope? The only hope is Frank has identified the issues and things can't get any worse. Nope!! It's only going to get worse.

There is no hate towards you. My bum, admittedly is getting raw from the fence sitting, but, alas, the hopium is pleasant enough. I have nothing to smite you with, other than hope, but we're going to HOPEFULLY do something in this second part of the season to spite you with........

Shocking. Excuses after excuses. Why are we paying millions to someone who couldn't come out with solutions he's hired for.

It's always about the players and not him.

I fucking hate him.
Always says we work hard on it! Not sure what! He then admits we don’t create enough chances! No shit Sherlock! Every man and his dog knows that and it is his job to rectify how max attacking options with players available. He knows Richi can’t trap a bag of cement yet we continue to pump long balls up to him. We then lose the ball and give the oppo easy ball.

Chaos munchers? Harsh.

I want him gone today. I think he’s useless. Doesn’t mean I want chaos. I’ve spent years on here defending managers until the death, did it with the last guy too. Stability is the way forward and that’s been proven over and over again. Disregarding Chelsea, every other successful side has had stability.

But it has to be with someone who shows something. Anything. Any improvement. And having more clean sheets and conceding a few less goals with a pretty consistently fit back five and a DM in front of them isn’t enough.

Sunderland have lost half their team to AFCON. we shouldn’t be considering not beating them, but are almost expecting defeat. It’s not good enough man.

He needs to go. And quickly. If it causes chaos, so be it, but it’ll also cause hope. I have none of that right now.
Sunderland fought tooth and nail v city got a draw. They ran their legs off. Just imagine them doing them same with our cm of bent and Paul. We will get overrun. Just imagine if 7 of our players that Frank has had available this season went to afcon. Everyone here abd Frank would be coming out excuses and more excuses.

I hope he is backed in Jan as long as recruitment don't again fuck things up. We desperately need better players irrespective of who the coach is. The whole "wrong players" thing is generally overdone. If he gets top 8 then IMO he deserves another season, but if not, sack him in the summer (assuming we don't somehow win a cup).
Top 8 with the money spent already, feel good factor and confidence boost of winning a trophy, a so called technical and more organised coach should achieve better than that! Otherwise what was the point. Also finish 8 with a few new players in Jan ok but we need to see a real improvement in our play.

What I can't understand about Frank is his persistent comments that we are working hard on our attacking game.

I mean surely you would see some signs of this? Interchanging , give and goes, slick passing around edge of the box

I know he loves crosses but honestly there's so just so little.

I mean wtf are they doing all week in training. International players everywhere, best facilities in the Country... and this is the best he can do?

Sure the injuries are significant but they don't account for what we're seeing week in week out

But we had a higher xG last night than we did in the Europa League Final, which people say was a "good performance" with an "attacking manager", but that was with "no attacking midfielders", so when you put the two side by side something about the criticism doesn't really add up.

Game was dead as soon as Muani came on and he was all over the shop, so if it is really about tactics and not players, why it is that Odobert can be our only decent forward player and playing in a totally different way.

I'm annoyed and disappointed that he's not using our younger club-trained players, but I'm also annoyed at what our senior players are doing out there, so I prefer to wait to see how this would all look with some half-competent players in the front line. We currently don't have much of note available
We should be using WB abd Scarlett more. Even recall some of the players out on loan just to give us options.

Maybe as we know, our attacking options aren't good enough to pull off what Frank wants so he prioritises defence.
We can only really know once our better attacking options returns in Kulu, Maddison and Solanke but we definitely lack variation and support runs, a valid criticism.
Odobert isnt good enough, Richarlison isnt and Kudus is a hot and cold player.
Bentancur and Palhinha struggle to pass through the lines, and its no surprise because of their skillset.
I think we have underestimated the loss of Maddison, and somewhat Xavi despite being underwhelming.
Unless Frank changes our playstyle drastically despite unavailability in players, he loses us and his job

Again I'm not sure who said the EL final was a good performance, it was a good result as we won a Trophy , the performance to me doesn't really matter as it was a 1 off game, a Final that we won!

I actually agree with you about the youth players and I would be a lot more forgiving of Frank had we been blooding in some of the younger players this season!
That is what I said from the start. Frank should have used this season to integrate some of our academy players. Include them in match day squads and be brave enough to give them minutes. He has shown no bravery as he sent them all on loan. Further if was to get a free hit this season then he should have been bedding in a football philosophy and style ready for when he gets players back and more new additions. His done of the above apart play it safe trying eke out points to save his job. He talked about taking risks when he started well his taken zilch.

Agreed.

If we were inconsistent but Gray, Bergvall and Xavi were our midfield and Tel + Odobert was playing upfront, and Kinsky in goal. You could see Moore, LWB, Lanshear, etc on the bench you would say “we are setting ourselves up for success in the future”. It’s not that though. Our inconsistent form comes with our senior pros continuing to play inconsistently and poorly.

An idiot who gave game time to Harry Kane at Spurs and Jack Grealish at Aston Villa.

Without Tim, there was no Pochettino era. He would have lasted a season tops.

I say that on the basis that Poch relied not only on the players Tim proved were first-team capable, but he also put a few years of hard-graft into their development. I think we were a bit spoilt or blinded then in terms of what he was actually doing for the club.

I'd agree with anyone that calls him a twat, and it's probably what I was doing on here 12 years ago, and it was fully justified because he was saluting adebayor, managing the side from the stands, and generally just being a fucking weirdo whilst acting like the village idiot in from of the microphones.

This must be the cringiest moment

How much we spend is totally irrelevant

Who we spend on money on and how they might suit whatever structure/gameplan our revolving door of managers might have, if any is discernable, is obviously the key thing.

I despair when I read comments from our fans linking money spent on an individual player to ultimate team performance over a season. Anyone who has played a team sport at a reasonably high level knows that things are much more nuanced than that.

Having said all of that one has to query our spend over the past 2 seasons - because we seem just so keen to "do something" in the transfer market it seems that that we are too ready to wave a big cheque book at "smaller" clubs wanting to get funds our of the transfer market. I can't think of one "bargain" but can think of plenty of over-spend situations, Johnson being just one.
