I know the mood is low after Old Trafford, but honestly, I’ve never been more confident. If you actually look at the first 30 minutes before the Romeo red card, Thomas had us playing some of the best away football we’ve seen in years. We were matching a Man United team in full flow, and it was only individual madness that cost us.
Newcastle are coming to our place on Tuesday, and I’m telling you now: Thomas is going to pull off a tactical masterclass. People are moaning about the "defensive crisis" with Romeo suspended and Udogie likely out, but this is exactly where a world-class master tactician like Thomas excels. He’s already proven he can out-think the best in the Champions League, and Eddie Howe simply doesn't have the tactical flexibility to cope with the system Thomas is building here.
Even with the injuries to Maddison, Porro, and the rest, the structure is there. We saw signs of life in that second half against City, and with the home crowd behind the project, I’m predicting a convincing victory. We are going to blow them away and start that charge up the table towards the top four spot.
Stop the panic. We have a genius in the dugout who has us competing on the highest highest levels in Europe. Newcastle won’t know what hit them.
COYS.
How did you get a hold of Vinai’s upcoming programme notes early?

Unbelievable. A logic since preschool but only here can being told 5th isn't better than 8th. This is what Frank has done to us. Being led to believe things through warped perspectives. I bet if we got relegated this season with more points than last, Frank and some fans will still be adamant that we did better than last season.
:richclosed:
Thanks for proving you can’t read more than a sentence.

There was no uptick from 8th to 5th.

It was due to an 8-2-0 start and no Europe. It was just 12-4-12 after that even with no Europe.

Ange got found out. He also couldn’t manage 2 competitions as he had to sack the league to focus on the easier competition.

On a more serious note (and thank you for the opportunity to once again post my favourite emoji and Twitter link 😍 ) there was absolutely an "uptick" from the crumbling ashes of the Conte/Stellini/Mason implosion - and it wasn't finishing "5th" (although that is by definition an "uptick")

It was the fact that we played football again. Lovely football. Breathtaking at times. The fact it didn't last does not change the fact that we did it - however brief it was.

The end of 22/23 season was diabolical. I didn't think I'd ever see Spurs play "football" again. Didn't think the squad were capable of it after the 5 years of having it trained out of them. Instead, from the very first pre-season game Postecoglou just changed EVERYTHING about our style.

It was surprising, astonishing and glorious.

And then it all fell apart. Fine. Icarus dies - that's how these things play out.

But don't tell me there was no "uptick". That 10 weeks was the only time (apart from the Scum game in 21/22) where the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium felt like White Hart Lane.

Anyway... as Palace twist the knife of our impending relegation I say all of this to just remind myself that great change can happen if someone wills it. There is always some hope...

He's faced PSG twice and lost both times (conceding 8 goals) and has never faced Real Madrid in his life!
Mixed up the giants, so what? The point stands that Thomas has us in the Last 16 while the "big" clubs are watching from home.
Winning away at Frankfurt and schooling Dortmund 2-0 is world-class coaching, end of story. You can cry about the PSG score all you want, but Thomas is building a tactical monster that’s going to lift the Champions League trophy in May.
We’re still grabbing that top four spot too. Keep your screenshots, I’ll see you after the Newcastle masterclass on Tuesday.

There there was a 10 week uptick. My point is we weren’t improving or going anywhere. Just saying 8th to 5th ignores the 10 game manager bounce and lack of Europe.

I stuck with Ange longer than most, till February of last season. He was found out and out of ideas. Pure luck that a weak Europa was even an option for him.

He was definitely more entertaining than Frank though and likely better.

Resign, Thomas - you bastard

He doesn’t look well to me. He’s got that wide eyed deer in the headlights look of a stressed man who hasn’t got the answer to a question and doesn’t know where to find it.
The tactical genius that is Frank... can I keep Spurs in the Premier League...

I should hope this is nonsense like almost all of their ITK.

Not because I want Frank to remain, but because the decision shouldn't hinge on one result.

A win shouldn't change anything if they've finally reached the same point everyone else has been at for weeks/months and have had enough of him.

Lange had better not be far behind if and when the axe does fall.
It clearly is hinging on result by result though. It’s absolutely embarrassing

Should we have sacked Ange? Yes.

Should we have sacked Ange to replace him with Frank? No.

The Frank Experiment has failed. We were promised a better league position. We were promised an ability to fight on multiple fronts. We were promised better football. More wins.

He needs to go. We need to make sure relegation isn't a genuine possibility and we need to start building for a better future.
Exactly this. Once it was apparent Frank was the replacement I knew we were fucked. My record on Frank is clear before he got here. Serial loser who plays terrorist football who benefited massively from the structure and low ambition at Brentford. Look at how well they're doing since he left. They appointed their fucking set piece coach, and lost their two best players FFS. If you gave me a choice of keeping Ange for season 3 or sacking him and replacing him with Frank them I'll take Ange every time and make no apology.

Because it's been argued to death in the rest of your post. Should have, could have, would have - all assumptions people like to make in order to make their arguments valid. Matter of fact being 5th is better than 8th and you could say it isn't an improvement is just shockingly a denial in its greatest.

BTW, you can blame Conte and Stellini and Mason for not making Europe the previous season and making it easy for Ange also. How dare them.

Levy should have been sacked before he got the chance to appoint Ange.

That is what we should be having a go at ENIC about.

They left it too long.

We've had three seasons of utter wank managers and have aquired a losing habit.

We're right in the shit.

We need a no nonsense manager who will sack off Romero, Porro, Vicario and all the other lame and useless wasters we have on the books.

That failed to use Djed and Reg, properly, coz he was such a coward... Then realised he fucked up, when he had to play Djed, coz his shit management finally broke Porro.

That brave manager?
Ange made Djed, and in return, Djed showed nothing but love to the big man 💪🏻

Unlike this season where he has on multiple times publicly dismissed and undermined Frank.

That point on Porro is absolutely idiotic. Ange got way more out of him.

You clearly just can't concede that your footballing takes for the past 12 months ish have been nothing but absolutely diabolical. To the point where I'm confident you're a parody account.

:ange-facepalm: :ange-bored2: :ange-confused:

Absolutely this. That disgusting defeat was the moment we simply had to act, there was no point continuing with him after that.

Same as Ange losing to Leicester at home, there was no coming back from that. He was cooked from that moment on.
I think it should have been before that , in hindsight of course.
With a new manager and bounce , we beat West Ham and this is all put to bed. Let alone other points we might have picked up.
Still think the board and Lange are ultimately to blame more than Frank or any manager. After all it was there squad mismanagement ( one left back etc ) and lack of activity in the window that has cost us.
It's also been their decision to keep Frank.
Lange should be fired immediately and never get his paws near another transfer window.

Ange made Djed 🤣

If you ignore the incredibly poor mismanagement of the squad that forced his hand 🤣

Genuine question: is there any manager we could appoint who wouldn’t have sack calls within a season? The only name that even comes close for me is Poch.

There would 💯 be calls for Poch to be sacked within 2 games if we had won both by at least 3 goals with clean sheets.

We are hopelessly addicted to sacking managers. It's our DNA :D
