I think there’s some suggestion that at Brentford specifically the coach isn’t the biggest piece of the jigsaw.
And that’s a fair assumption to make, particularly due to the success of Andrews in replacing him.

But there was none of this chat before we took Frank on. It was all about his improvement of players, keeping plucky Brentford in the league, etc. Even I, who didn’t want him here, was looking forward to seeing what he could do with our strikers, as he’d seemed to do so well with them in the past. Turns out it was fuck all.

Wrong players for him? Wrong manager for them? Be a mix of these. Just didn’t work here.

Thing is, before he came here, what did we really know?

Now we've seen him up close.

Fair to say I thought a lot more highly of him from a distance

TBF he only had a short amount of time with Solanke and he was on form (when he got the ball).

I remain skeptical that even Jesus of Nazareth could make Kolo Muani look like a footballing 'Striker' instead of the workforce type

Every manager's a punt and it's not too hard to sell yourself a narrative that they might succeed.

With Frank a lot of highly respected football people, pundits and even some of the data folk felt he was a good appointment or, at the very least, a safe pair of hands. Even the doubters probably thought we'd at least be mid-table even if the football was shite.

Alas, turns out he was just a horrific fit and nowhere near a big enough character to walk into a big club and win over the players. He had some bad luck too but at the heart of it I think that was the problem. He's just too much of an uncharismatic, defensive nerd and the players didn't like him. The way he spoke to the press clearly demonstrated he couldn't read the room and get the messaging right and I have no doubt it was exactly the same with the players.

For that reason I think he's destined to fail wherever he goes next (at the top level) as it's pretty clear at Brentford there was such an efficient, coherent system in place that Frank was just the front-man and it was a collective effort. He didn't have to get buy-in from the players so much because the Brentford model did half the work for him.

It's Frank Derangement Syndrome.

Never seen anything like it.

You'd have thought he was a puppy killer the way people have gone on.

He's a nice, solid guy who came in with honest intentions, as a seasoned prem manager who has played competitive football and is well respected by other managers in the league.

Was handicapped starting without Maddison, Solanke and Kulu and zero functioning final third.

He did not navigate and mitigate subsequent injury challenges well, mind, resisting loosening his micro-tinkering approach game-to-game.

But attempting to rewrite his history and force-erase his achievements at Brentford to reduce him to just some sort of janitor is so bizarre to watch.

Very, very weird behaviour I've been seeing here.

Fanbase is a complete basket case.
What a disastrous appointment that turned out, makes Ange look like Brian Clough, hope you are enjoying the egg all over your face “think tank”

''Occasionally teams would run through Ange's team''
The amount of truly unqualified inarticulate dullards "gifting" us with their insights on football is incredible. Its the final poisonous endowment of a end stage capitalism, the ability of the pub bore to monetise his obsessive bullying. When Gove said we'd 'had enough of experts' it was a brutally accurate summation of our age. I'd move seats to avoid this bloke now people subscribe and 'smash a like'

the office hate GIF

This one isn’t unexpected. She is on The Times podcast and she’s fucking insufferable. Just hangs on and on about Liverpool and Thomas Frank. Been her schtick for years. She’s rimmed Tommy F’s hoop to the level you could now drive a car through it.

No huge surprise she’s now out acting as his main cheerleader.
Oh god, Rudd is truly the worst. Stopped listening to that pod years ago but she's one of least likeable footy journos going. Awful combination of smug, pretentious but also really biased and full of awful takes.

Doesn't surprise me one bit she's all over Frank.

Am genuinely curious to see where he ends up next and wish him well as he's a decent man. But "most in demand manager in football" is one of the most laughably bad takes I've seen in a long time.

:solankefacepalm:

I tend to listen to pods if I’m in the car and hearing her voice does make me wonder what a flyover support would feel like if I hit it at 80mph.

Honest to fuck, am I living in a parallel universe to these cunts in the media? He’s the worst Spurs Manager in my lifetime by a fucking long shot. Nuno was just a bit boring and unglamorous, Frank was Hitler with a bouffant.

He shouldn’t get anywhere near another top job in his life, he’s the most unsuitable manager I can think of for a team with any sort of ambition. His next move should be to a mid-table Bundesliga side like Wolfsburg or something.

If he goes to a club like that, lower to mid table, low expectations, he’ll continue to have a decent career. Just not suited to a side with higher expectations and players with large egos.
