Player Timo Werner

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So Werner went out last night to play poorly ?
was he poor YES
did he run back YES
if big Ange calls out Werner where was the call out for Johnson who lost the ball all game and didn't chase back to get it back

I'm not defending Werner he is HOPELESS but Ange has resigned him after seeing him for 6 months
He played better than Son, and not for the first time either.

But Ange has screwed himslef here. He's picked Golden Boy as Captain, and I cannot remember ONE good thing he did last night, Not one. And this isn't the first time either. Played 90 mins and it was like being with 10 men. Played 70 the other day, and ditto.

Werner at least can put a cross in. Off both feet. Get to the byline. Son can't beat his man and won't shoot even if in the box.

Ridiculous to have Werner out wide, with powder puff Son up top. Who can't hold the ball up.

And then when you bring on Dom, who CAN hold the ball up, let's take WERNER OFF AT THE SAME TIME. The one guy that's guaranteed to be able to get a cross in.

Awful management. Crazy. No logic at all. Playing to our weaknesses not our strengths.

Son will get Ange sacked and his replacement

He’s a massive problem - absolutely hopeless and weak and wet

I normally enjoy Anges pressers, and think in general he talks well, but must say that I didn't like this take on Werner. Hanging a player out to dry like that is very seldom a good idea, but I first of all think it was also a bit unfair.

Werner had the wrong boots on yesterday, but it was not like he didn't care, or made an effort. He was also involved in the few half chances we got, incl an excellent crosser to Johnson he should have buried (he was off though, but that was on Johnson alone*).

And was he any worse than Son and Johnson? Don't think so myself.

Werner ia a hard working and very likeable guy, who seems to not reach his level with us. That is not down to bad mentality or lack of efforts, quite the opposite

Hahah yeah course he did, was no doubt his number one pick in the summer

:levywhoa:

"Hai Ange - so Timo's up for another juicy loan. What say you?"

"Erm... cough... actually he wasn't all that flash, mate. Maybe we could spend 70 million on Nico Williams?"

"Lol.."

"Okay... How about 50 million on Pedro Neto"

"LMAO"

"Okay... how about we keep Werner and go for a speculative punt on a young Championship winger who you might on -sell in 3 years time?"

"SOLD to the fat Aussie with tuberculosis"

"While you're here, any word on Eze and Gallgher"

"ROFLMAO!"

:ange-bored: :levylol:

I have been one of Werner's biggest supporters - largely because I'm a hopeless romantic who believes in redemption arcs. His goal against City was one of the highlights of the year.

Last night he did not care, did not make an effort. And the manager rightly called him out on it.

The pearl clutching on this is utterly ridiculous. Especially by some of the same people who have been genuinely abusive towards him from day 1.

I’m with you on this. Werner should use it as a tool be embarrassed about and go prove him wrong. Nothing wrong with getting your balls kicked in public. They get their balls kicked in public by us who go to the games anyway so fucking deal with it. Maybe harder management is needed rather than fucking about being nice to people all the time.
I just wish Ange would be more vocal on the side and he might get more out these imposters.

The thing that feels odd to me though, is that Ange has always made a point that he would never criticise a player publicly.

It felt really out of character for him last night to dig Werner out - it was absolutely right to be critical of him, but if you’re going to do that, be more consistent and call the others out who also aren’t performing

That was odd but I do think he was caught up in the moment and will regret it but it shows that he’s feeling the pressure and frustrated with the utter shit that he’s seeing on the pitch.
I do believe he should do more in the side.

I think the difference is that Timo dropped his head and didn't work. I commented on this in the match thread at the time.

Son was dreadful but working hard. Ditto for Porro. Brennan did a lot of running but not much actual effective pressuring but he's also our top scorer so... 🤷‍♂️

Had no problem at all with the manager making that call on Werner. As one of his biggest supporters I was ropeable with his attitude last night.

It’s pretty soft criticism though. He’s just calling a spade a spade.

You can’t say that!!!!

The journo originally asked "You subbed Werner at HT..... Was it tactical?".

Ange said "yes" and could have left it at that, only to then proceed to criticise Werner (thus contradicting himself) and left the door open for the journo to keep digging.

It could have ended with just "yes..".
That's interesting because it is a deviation from what we're used to seeing with Postecoglou. It suggests he either is trying to communicate a message to the rest of the squad by going after a player in on loan, or it may be a sign he's losing his composure and feels his job is at risk. When journalists are talking about Werner it meant they weren't talking about another uninspiring team performance.

He has said it wasn’t criticism. It was assessment.

There’s a big difference!!

Going to remember that in future site visits I do.

“Not criticising your shit work. I’m just assessing it as shit.”

Spurs should put on a production of A Christmas Carol at the megadome over the festive period.

Sugar could play Marley's ghost; no prizes for guessing who takes the starring role.

Ryan Mason as Bob Cratchett.

Tiny Timo is also guarenteed a part.
