Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It’s odd. We sign second tier type players, who are then coached into the top drawer by Poch & his team. They then decide they are too good for us or don’t like the wages that they were more than happy to take in the first place, even though we regularly hand out improved contracts to everyone who has earned it. And they are happy to sign them too.
I’m stepping into the “fuck em” camp.

You know what. I used to give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

But after seeing another old school friend throw himself in front of a train (not seeing literally) and people on here having their lives changed by cancer.

Two words for ungrateful greedy players.

Fuck them.

The sooner the football bubble pops the better. Clubs should not be able to run at a debt or be owned by slave states. I hope City and the Chavs crash back down to the second division where they belong and fuck off for a long long time.
Neoliberalism is a poison to football.

For what it's worth this is my take on it.
I / (we) support this great club of ours whatever path we take.
We have to trust those in charge also want what's best for the club even when they make decisions we may not agree with.
I think Poch plays Sissoko too often but I still have to believe he knows more about football management than me.
Levy might sanction the sale of certain players ie Modric or potentially Toby against our wishes but I again must believe he has more business nous than me.
So, when every current player has moved on for whatever reason we will still have our club to support because we are not like that bunch of cunts down the road who 'unsupport' their team as soon as it doesn't go their way. TTID

It has become a case of the inmates running the asylum. The sooner power in negotiations and fees goes away from the agents and back to the clubs the better.

I’m reserving my judgement for now. Let’s see what happens between now and the transfer window.

Lol, Neoliberalism has absolutely nothing to do with City + Chavs. Woolwich, sure. Man U, sure. Liverpool, sure. But not City or Chavs.

Hell, if anything Spurs is probably the most neoliberally-run club in the Prem.

Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. However, Martinez has already said there are “contractual issues” so it’s clear that the club & player are at loggerheads.
The whole forum revolves around opinions, speculation & snippets from other sources. It’s a way of passing time in between games though
:townhmm:

If Toby plays against Rochdale in the FA cup and doesn't against Palace, Huddersfield or Juve then guaranteed he is gone this summer and that is that I am afraid, exact Walker Scenario and similar timing.
Massive loss if he leaves.

PS I just read BBCs "failing to finish training on Thursday due to a "small incident" in his leg".... means he is not playing this Sunday but will against Rochdale... BORING.

Hmmm i'm not sure, neoliberal president Reagan tripled the Gross Federal Debt, from $900 billion to $2.7 trillion. Debt seems to go hand in hand with that economic policy if history is anything to go by.

... and yet we're talking about the operations of a private company, which is a very different animal. Levy's stewardship of Spurs has arguably been the most traditionally managed of Prem sports teams, besides Woolwich.

Honestly I can't be bothered to shit this thread up with a big old economic argument no one wants to read about so i'll just say .......yeah alright.

Oh I’m definitely not one of those ‘sit on the fence and claim to be holier than though’ types. Forums would be pretty boring without opinions.

My opinion is that there’s not quite enough to go on at this stage. We already knew there were ongoing discussions about his contract. He’s older than a lot of our players, and will know he’s not got too many years at his peak remaining.

I think I’m just at that point where I don’t expect anything less from modern footballers, and I can understand it to a degree. Walker’s transfer didn’t annoy me. At most it frustrates me that we can’t currently afford to pay the inflated rates, and it frustrates me that they’re inflated due to companies like the Sheik Mansour ‘team’ Ltd. That’s not Alderweireld’s fault, or Levy’s.

I don't see any similarities with the Walker scenario.

Walker walked into Pochs office and said he wanted to go. All we know is Toby just wants a bit more money then what we are offering.

He probably wants to stay but knows his worth.

I'd personally keep him beyond the summer. He still has a contract and who knows whatll happen.

He was happy enough to sign for us in the first place & he was a top defender then.
He still has 2 years left on that deal.
Now, I’m all for rewarding performance, and we have repeatedly improved contracts for players who have performed.
All the suggestions are that he will sign for us, but wants to treble his wages.
My point is...if we are offering him £110k a week then he is missing out on a very healthy pay rise.
He could earn that now for the next 3-4 years.
Or he can stay on his £50,000 a week & try his luck for his big payday when he has run his contract down. He still has to play well to keep himself in the shop window. By which time, Sanchez & Foyth will be well established. It’s not as though we are not going to use Toby exclusively for those 2 years he has left on his contract.
Assuming my maths is correct here;
If he signed for 3 years at £110,000 he makes £17 million.
If he stays for 2 years on £50,000 he makes £5.2 million
He has to bag himself a mega deal to make back “lost earnings” over the next 2 years by not signing a new deal.
If we have to take £25 million for his release clause in 15 months time, then we have to do that. But he is still needing a huge deal on the table to make it worth his while?
I’m sure his agent has pointed this out to him though
:eriksenserious:
Your sums are slightly off as 1 year and leave and get 200k/. Because that's what his agent will be telling him he will get for the best cb in the league for £25m, remember all the rich clubs were after evans... taxi for evans.

Not disagreeing with your point only the numbers he has 1yr and leave at a bargain £25m

I think we should pay him 150 but understand why we wont.

I think both sides are being reasonable but also somewhat intractable with their demands. We all knew when we signed Toby that we were getting him below-market, and that argument works both ways. Personally, I wouldn't envy anyone's chances in asking Daniel Levy to triple their wages, allegedly.

Amazing the theory that a player can only be good if the big clubs are in for them.

''If they're so good, why aren't *big club name* in for them''

It's a nonsense. All the big clubs were in for Pogba and Lukaku. Look at those two shithouses.
Its recognised that TA is a very good player for us and its suggested that ' big name clubs' want him. Ive even heard Woolwich suggested. Whether hes good enough to play for another team we will have to see. Sometimes players find that mojo at a club but cant find it else where. He will end up at Chelsea, high earnings seeing his career spiral down.
Hope he signs new deal, plays and does us proud or bugger off

Wrong you boring little liar from down under.
It's just drongo's like you and mindless mindblown that I have no respect for.
I get along fine with anyone who doesn't talk crap to me or try to put me down. It's quid pro quo sunshine. Play nice with me and I'll return the compliment.
You don't know how to, so you got all the respect you earned.
Drongo's: Your not an Aussie so why use our lingo!.
All you are is a piss ant emigre from Hamilton, Bermuda who is currently polluting Surrey with your presence.
