Stadium Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A key difference is the fanbase as well. Football is getting more and more americanized, consuming everything else but the sport itself. Additionally with this new stadium (similar to other new stadiums), a larger group of people visiting has no connection to the club. It is more of a tourist attraction than a place where it is going to be tough for the away team. And it doesnt help with away fans being more vocal in general.

One thing that has been the case is that people seem to be happy enough making a whole load of noise at the bars but by the time they get on the concourse they don’t wanna do it. Maybe we are just too self-conscious nowadays?

It's not like the atmosphere at the Lane was always great in the old stadium. I remember games where it was also like a morgue. As was Upton Park and Highbury. The problem certainly isn't the stadium only.

The atmosphere is crap because the football is crap.

Plus the ticket prices are some of the highest in the world and so only a certain section of society who can afford that price can go, so you're never going to get the older atmosphere back.

I used to go to every game when I was 13 years old because you could just tip up on the day and pay 7 quid at the turnstiles for standing on the terrace - only games you couldn't do that were Woolwich and Man U for some reason as they were the sold out. Never really questioned the atmosphere once as it always seemed rocking.

Nowadays it's just such a faff to even get a ticket - especially for a game that you'd actually want to see. The club just seems determined to rinse every last penny out of the fans these days and doesn't give a toss about the experience.

This, the bar of expectation for this club is much higher now. If we are constantly performing below this level then fans aren't going to be happy and as a result it will be quieter.

We are getting charged Michelin star prices and getting a Toby Carvery experience.

I am taking up my ex wife's season ticket at Wet Spam tonight, she's blown it out as there is some boycott going on but as I don't think she understands the concept of a boycott has given me her ticket .I did go once last year (not for the Spurs game, she would never allow that) and the atmosphere was just non existent, the Spammers couldn't even be bothered to boo. I was in the Home End for our game at Brighton this season and there was no atmosphere there either.
So I do agree its flat at WHL and that may/may not be down to the team's struggles at home, but it does seem to be the norm in English football that we have collectively lost the mojo. In my opinion its definetly down to the prices squeezing out the youngsters. I saw that the average age in Chelsea's home games is 59 now. When I first started going to football in mid 70's I am sure it would have been about 23.

I think football is just boring nowadays. They took the fun out of celebrating goals with VAR so what we have left is this. All the fun has been taken out of it. Now all we get, those of us who bother to go, is get moaned at. Nowadays it feels like most people don’t even really want to be there and go out of habit. We won’t always be there. Only then will everyone else work it out. Although that’s probably giving them too much credit.

Spot on mate. The atmosphere was awful yesterday as it has been for most of the short history of the stadium.

As I’ve said on this thread, I’m part of the problem (middle aged and sing occasionally). It’s not a game for the working class youth anymore. This is who me and my mates were when we used to bunk in, hand the turnstile operator a bung or pay the relatively cheap price to stand. When we got in there we’d yell and sing for most of the game…eagerly trying to pick up on songs from the Shelf or even start our own ones (with limited outcomes 😂).

The whole day was cheap - travel, beer, tickets - and at quarter to five on a Saturday afternoon, we’d be looking forward to a night out.

So, ticket prices, kick off times, travel/beer/food costs all affect the piss poor atmosphere at WHL and across the PL. add to that fucking VAR

The authorities and broadcasters will only catch on when it hurts their ‘product’ (sick in my mouth typing that).

I only kept my ST this season because my 21yr old lad begged me to and I’m happy to give it to him whenever he can go….

The whole ‘product’ (more sick) is too polished and contrived - like most things we once enjoyed that have been repackaged and sold back to us by ‘the money’
