Match Tottenham Hotspur v Ajax, Champions League Semi-Final, Tue 30th April

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Our squad quality simply isn’t good enough, that's the reality.

We can all sit here and wonder why but the truth is if we would have signed some players to strengthen our midfield and signed some more attacking options we would have won that tonight comfortably IMO.

Subbing on Davies and Foyth to try and win a game is not good for any team, let alone one in the semi final of the CL.

Everyone feeling confident about the return leg, I admire your optimism but the truth us, Ajax looked comfortable, even in the second half, they were happy to take the 1-0 back to their place, we are now basically relying on Son to win the tie for us away.

I’m not feeling confident but we have a chance

Which it didn’t appear likely in that first half shitshow

Son will make a difference obviously, but he can’t take on whole defence. There’s no one that runs past the strikers or makes forward runs that’s why we rely on someone taking their whole team on. It’s just poor.

Need to change the dynamic of the team in the summer.

I think it was pretty much all down to our formation at the start. When we've changed to one man more in midfield we were pretty dominating and they didn't looked like prime barca anymore. I'm pretty confident that we can turn this around.

Well, they’re squad players at best is what I’ve taken from it:

Wanyama - injuries look to have done too much damage
Trippier - just too many poor games this season. If you’re not going to have pace in that position, you need to be excellent elsewhere, and he hasn’t been. Also puts pressure on Rose getting double teamed as oppo aren’t worried by Trippier threat
Moura - head down dribble and can finish, not much sense. Only one with speed in our attack tonight and he spent much of the game in the middle
Llorente - I’d rather see a 19yr old live wire off the bench, he adds so little for me.

Things is we don’t have the cash to replace them all, but a couple could go
Replacing Moura would be a mistake. We most certainly have the money to replace the other three. Will we though is the real question.

Meh. I think the ‘British’ media created such a frenzy about Ajax that we all - and maybe the team - believed we were facing 11 teenage Messi’s. Second half showed they can be got at - they’re far from the best team I’ve seen us play. Man City are miles better than Ajax and must be kicking themselves right now.

Wanted a clean sheet but in some ways tonight’s result may (oddly) work in our favour. Going there with a narrow lead would have meant we try to defend that lead - like at the Etihad ... However we now have to go there and attack them. And if we get a goal their away goal means nothing.

Thought Sissoko was immense tonight - MoM despite being on the losing team. Trippier looks like a man who has lost all confidence. Everything he tried went wrong. Dele also got no luck tonight, and he played within himself a bit - perhaps understandable given his broken arm which will probably make him hold back.

Second leg - I think with Sonny back and maybe even Harry, we can nick this. COYS

Sissoko should have started.
Credit to pochettino for figuring out the game before too much damage was done.
Jan is a warrior and I hope we fight for him in the 2nd leg.
Start Foyth immediately over trippier
I imagine Son is literally Imploding with impatience.
Proud of this team regardless
Poch did not figure it out. He was forced into making the change because of Jan's injury.
