I think dribbling i.e beating a man is the hardest skill in football. It’s what separates the very good from the great. At some point coaches have decided it’s too hard and too rare to develop players who can do that so we have a lot of system players but less real individuality in modern football.

In the 60/70s nearly every side has a ‘tricky’ winger who would take the opposition on!

Cliffy Jones for example
Eddie Gray
Summerbee
Best

Etc

We have BJ and Timo!

Agree, that’s a key reason Mikey Moore is a Golden Egg.

Don’t tell me this team aren’t inconsistent. Not a single Spurs fan (who doesn’t hide behind stats) will be surprised by that result, it’s exactly the sort of spineless performance and result we are accustomed to. Chance to go 3rd/4th, weaker team at home, off the back of a big win last week. Utter embarrassment of a side

Sack him and his staff. Embarrassing he was given the job in the first place.
This team aren't consistent.

The types of goal we are mostly conceding are not the same as last season though, they are not the type of situation where VDV would be expected to make a big recovery against a player running through a wide open pitch.

Every game we are now conceding from a cross where players either shit themselves or go to sleep. Getting defenders back is not a problem, look how many defenders are back when Ipswich scored their goals. It’s a simple lack of composure and aggression in defending. Players caught ball-watching and not getting close to people. Different problem to last season.

So so so much ball-watching.

Its fucking infuriating.

We just don’t look drilled at all, defending crosses is absolutely basic stuff. To keep conceding the same goal can only be a failure of coaching.

It does seem like Ange is overly focused on embedding his broader philosophy rather than attending to the basic principles that you actually need to follow to win matches.

Focusing on the fancy Angeball stuff while we repeatedly concede from crosses is just fiddling while Rome burns.

My late grandfather was a winger and when he used to talk to me about football he (often) bemoaned the lack of players who could “beat a man”.
Yeah, but did he have a Twat Tok account, and a meme Goal Celebration??

Your Grandfather was of another era....

Imagine Maddison in 60 years, trying to convince his Grandkids how Neil Maupay ACTUALLY wound him up by doing his 'darts' goal celebration!

PRICK!

This is now the fifth in-season international break in a row that Spurs have gone into on the back of a defeat. And they’re not just regular defeats either. There’s some absolute doozies in here, look.
Tottenham 1-2 Ipswich
Brighton 3-2 Tottenham – from 2-0 up, of course
Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham
Fulham 3-0 Tottenham
Wolves 2-1 Tottenham – with those Wolves goals coming in the 91st and 97th minutes

Absolutely pathetic all round.

It's almost as if the players have an eye on getting to the airport...

Trying to pinpoint why we are up and down in performances. Imo fine margins cos of bad defending and players cant keep up high intensity every game. A cocktail of both. Thats down to the manager. Yesterday was car crash.

Most probably someone already mentioned it but, just in case...

Romero wouldn't risk an injury a week before Argentina's game. Hence no tackles (and no actual defending for that matter).
The same applies to all international players (not ony ours, see City).
