I think dribbling i.e beating a man is the hardest skill in football. It’s what separates the very good from the great. At some point coaches have decided it’s too hard and too rare to develop players who can do that so we have a lot of system players but less real individuality in modern football.
In the 60/70s nearly every side has a ‘tricky’ winger who would take the opposition on!
