That Lloris guy. Lazy!

I am delighted with the result and it's hard to judge properly with 10 men for so long but I am honestly disappointed with the performance. Thought Capoue did well in both positions and Dier very assured without being much tested at right back. Lloris saved our arses as usual and signing Vorm just makes me think it's a matter of time until we cash in. A Levy gentleman agreement is surely part of his contract.

Other than that, I didn't see much to make me think we'll improve on last year. Kaboul is finished and we have to accept it, Rose has some potential but doesn't seem to be making any progress in his defensive positioning. Bentaleb again has potential but shouldn't be starting at the moment, Lamela still looks both terrified and trying too hard. Eriksen also looks like he won't find a role in the new system. Unless he can add more strings to his bow he'll end up a luxury player who won't start every game. Ade did his thing with minimal service so certainly can't criticise him directly but there was zero understanding between him Lamela and Eriksen.

I tend to be over optimistic about us so this isn't a 'doom and gloom' post, but looking at the performance in isolation, we were really not convincing.

I think we'll improve when we find our best defence which probably includes Davies and obviously Walker and Vertonghen, hopefully with a new CB not Dawson or Kaboul (though with pessimist hat on, I'm starting to give up on Musacchio. Lamela should improve and we'll find our best centre mid pairing which will likely include Sneiderlin, seems like 2 of Sandro, Dembele and Paulinho are on the way out.

All that said, no doubt it was great to win last minute against those cunts. Just don't think we should let the celebrations crown a pretty unconvincing performance, even with 10 men.

Big win.

Away from home, 10 me, those cunts.

Great 3 points. Performance was not great, but tell me a team this weekend that performed well?

Liverpool - Lucky to win.
Woolwich - Dominated possession, but were a little lucky to take all 3 points.
City - Better side, but nothing special. Newcastle had their chances.
Man United - Lol
Everton - Haven't seen highlights, but drew to a newly promoted side.

All in all, a solid start.

Southampton's players said it took about 6 months for them to adapt to Pochettino's tactics and high pressing game when he joined them, so our results & performances will probably be a bit patchy until we also adapt. I'm personally not expecting too much from us until xmas time. We should see a greater consistency after then.

Hopefully the fans & board can stay patient until then in this instant gratification culture we seem to live in, as I genuinely think Pochettino could lead us back to the glory days given time to fully implement his philosophy on our team. The biggest danger to that happening is our board shooting itself in the foot again.

Completely agree. Seems all the top teams that had lots of players at the world cup have made a slow start this weekend. Players not yet at 100% fitness required for the PL

Aside form the laughs it was pretty shit all round, football wise a very slow start.

Can't believe how jammy the gonner cunts where again as always, late off the bum goal.

You think? I thought Rose was one of our best defenders yesterday, I definitely thought several times throughout the match that he really stepped his game up and has much better concentration. Great to have Davies as it seems to have pushed Rose.

I thought he stood off Downing far too much, was slow in possession (although not alone in that respect), and was more than a couple of times beaten far too easily with a simple drop of the shoulder.

I don't want to coat the lad off at all - I only want our players to be good, and he might well improve but I would like to see Davies start the next match (if for no other reason than he is in my FF team).

Oh yeah agree with all that, felt the same about AVB but Poch seems to be 1) more flexible 2) not as likely to alienate key players like Ade to prove a point and 3) have a bit more humour about himself so as not to get wound up by criticism/media.

It's just a shame we weren't able to get the players he wants in and out in the summer already as it will just hold us up transition wise as we know there are several who don't have a future in the first team and just use up squad positions and wages.

We also have plenty of borderline players who have so far failed to look 'top 4' level but shown signs they may be able to step up: Townsend, Capoue, Lamela, Rose, Eriksen...maybe Soldado though I'm starting to give up on him. We have to be patient with these guys too and give them all solid game time.

They have finally realised how small they made themselves look with the treble t shirt, the commemorative mug and the DVDs.
They thought it was wonderful at the time but are regretting it big time now.
The weeks leading up to the game, all we were hearing was the Quadruple is on and other cringy bullcrap.
What they don't realise is before their miracle last season, the 12 games before that, they only won one out of the 12, including us winning 5 on the trot, was there any mention of the treble, the quadruple or even the Quintet ???? No because we aren't as Muggy as them, so all the stick they got yesterday and today was self inflicted.
This is why I was so desperate to beat them yesterday.. It s been fun..

In the cab on the way out of there, started to abuse this group of fellas ALL wearing these shirts.

One of them took exception and started to chase the cab.

As if that wasn't enough, he then proceeded to fall over.

It really topped the day off.

I know the performance was a bit shit but I thought we all knew the score in regards to playing West Ham by now. They are always so up to play us that getting a win against them no matter how ugly is always a good thing especially at their place. That isn't even taking into account that it is our managers first game and we're missing a fair few significant members our squad.

Plus, it was pretty clear after the red card that the team started bricking it because they thought it was happening again just like we all did. Ultimately, I don't think there is a ton to be learned from this game. It is our first game under a new coach and the circumstances were extremely abnormal.
