So, against my better judgement I decided to watch this back after missing it.

I’ll get pelters for this but it was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting. I mean it was awful and full of mind bogglingly dumb individual mistakes but it was still somehow better than AZ and that draw will have given confidence that had ZERO for most of the game.

My takes:

1. All the chances we conceded, aside from the second goal were our mistakes. All of them unforced except maybe Bissouma’s first mistake against the press. Bournemouth did their usual Jose ball style but with the high press mixed in and credit to them for having their identity locked down (incredible cross Kerkez first goal) but our troubles were self inflicted.

2. The second goal doesn’t happen with Romero on the pitch. Not knocking Danso but his instincts are more geared to the recovery run like VDV, a more proactive, front foot CB sees that Bergvall as the 6 stepped over onto Semenyo so our CBs weren’t split too far apart so that pass in between the lines was his.

3. The same gaps from missed passes and over excited presses were there but you can see the mistakes that caused them and you can also see that a player like Odobert doesn’t give the ball away in those dangerous situations.

4. Odobert was low key very encouraging. Especially on the right. Other than Maddison he’s our least predictable attacker. Likes to play 1-2’s and not just robotically get to the byline for cutbacks.

5. Johnson and Bentancur had stinkers. We got in behind Kerkez about 5 times in the first half and Johnson wasted all of them. Usually you at least get low crosses from him but not even that. Bentancur legitimately abject. I don’t get why Bissouma was subbed and I don’t get why Gray can’t get a chance when both our senior CMs play like That.

6. Sarr looks like he’s finding form. Him and Bergvall have to play with Maddison on Thursday. As much as our self inflicted mess should have already cost us the game, if Sarr scores that first chance at 1-0, we probably even win the game.

7. Son is a super sub and he can still be really effective at this level playing the role. The penalty wasn’t luck, there was a bit of rage in the piss take of rolling that in. Let’s hope he’s still angry on Thursday.

Overall, with confidence and a bit of form from that game, Thursday is a big ask but somehow….somehow still not impossible.
You'll be back to giving big Ange a reacharound again soon.

But Angeball is all tikki takka vertical diamond through the wings using players in that diamond to rotate - it's who we are mate

I've broken down how this has become soo predictable that our opponents have already figured this out & have been able to counter it easily - especially if the players are acting like the pitch is made of glass slipping & falling about the place while giving the ball away every 15 minutes :D
Every 15 mins…if only. Go back to the Palace away game, virtual full strength with Romero and Micky.
We gave the ball away in our own half 43 times . Just once every 2 minutes. Takes some believing . I watched the game on Spursplay the day after. Just shows nothing has changed and it won’t .
I just hope we can win the Europa and have the courage to sack Ange. Utd made the mistake of keeping Ten Haag after winning the cup. Having said that I could see us blowing it on Thursday, so it won’t be a problem.

Oh fuck don't man - I've memory holed most of our games because they were fukkin shit. I remember arguing with people during our 'Injury Crisis' with the whole narrative saying that's the reason we have been shit I kept saying we only won what 6 games in our first 15 games that's SHIT...

I want a Trophy though will we get one? I'm not fukkin holding my breath not after losing in the Champions League final where I actually went to Madrid to see us completely turn into a fukkin mess against Liverpool.

This club OWES me a Trophy the amount of fukkin money I've spent on this disaster of a club :D

Hahaha it was fucking awful mate, we were at home and completely second best for the entire game.

Sorry, but you can’t say that for sure. Romero has been caught out charging out of the defensive line and being bypassed earlier this season too.

We didn’t deserve to get much from the game don’t get me wrong but we weren’t dominated. Our problems were all self inflicted. On the offensive end as well, we created great situations plenty of times and the execution of the final action was poor.

But it was better than AZ.
You can’t say our problems were entirely self-inflicted when they were deliberately trying to cause those problems with their press. They did to Ange what he ideally wants to do to other teams, but our press has collapsed in to a ludicrous notion of pressing.

Yeah the press was the reason we made mistakes for sure but other than Bissouma they were unforced mistakes. Romero passed it into their chest with nobody pressuring him. Bentancur gave away ridiculously easy turnovers.

If you watch it back, we played through the press pretty easily.

everything has to be polarised - if you are Ange out - you have to traduce his qualities, humanity, intelligence and character. Then he has to be hung, drawn and quartered for public entertainment and his remains fed to the birds.

If you do not aspire to all of the above, you are a Levy bot and and an Ange apologist - and you deserve to have the above punishment also.

You can't come round here taking an even tempered and considerate line, balancing out pro's and cons and taking into account things like the devastation of his first team squad - without blaming him entirely for the physical condition of those players.

Also it is mandatory to slag off all team performances as "fucking Ange ball" irrespective as whether the team set up looks anything like it or not, and also slate him for not making the right substitutes at the correct time - neither detail of which is either divulged prior to the game - or ignored after it - if it worked.

Any lattitude given makes you a happy clapper

I’m not even coming on here to talk about Ange atm. In fact I’ve said he’s toast and I don’t want to talk about him… but you can’t even talk about any game or performance without every element of it being obsessively brought back to discussing the manager.

It’s cultish.

May be but who else is there going to get on the ball, look up and make an actual forward pass like the one he did for Son.

If there’s a forward pass on!

All too often there’s nobody in a position up front to receive a pass so the ball gets recycled sideways or backwards!

And our manager does fuck all about it!!

Just went on the website. When the headline is: “LATE FIGHTBACK RESCUES POINT AGAINST BOURNEMOUTH!” as if it’s some kind of heroic triumph and achievement to be proud of then you know you’re in trouble. It’s the sort of headline you might have got a few years’ back if you followed Gillingham. What a fucking joke the kart club is.

:mourweird:

Like Klopp when he first arrived celebrating with the whole team after rescuing a point at Anfield against relegated WBA!!!

Cunt!

Here's another chaotic sequence.

This starts with Kepa coming out of his line to pick up a corner delivered into the box. Romero for whatever reason first decides to hang around, and then actually starts pressing the opposing leftback instead of getting back. Huh?

Solanke is fully committed to their LCB, Sarr is marking someone, and Son is in the close vicinity of a player himself (#12). Fine. But what is Bergvall doing in no man's land there? I guess he was about to press their LB but hesitated due to Romero doing what he did.

The ball finds its way to their RCB who has been unmarked from the beginning. As soon as Son rotates to him in a rush, he finds the wide open RB (#4). Sarr follows the play to pick up Son's previous assignment (#12), but Spence the LB for whatever reason bombs forward to press their RB (#4), despite another defender (Romero) also being further up the pitch. Who's covering for all these people at the back?

Bentancur, despite being the only midfielder at the back since Sarr and Bergvall are both higher up the pitch, has to cover for Spence by rotating to the left. He intercepts the initial pass, but it goes right back to the opponent who delivers his pass the second time around. We're in trouble.

That is sad honestly. Porro ends up at CB since Romero has been nowhere to be found from the start, and Danso is dragged to the left to cover for all the aforementioned people that are left behind the play. And Odobert (?) tries to track back to possibly cover for Porro . What a mess.

Thankfully the Bournemouth player (Kluivert?) messes up the final ball which is intercepted by Porro and ends up in the hands of Vicario. As you can see there's a player open on the edge of the box, and another one running behind Romero.

Calling this pressing is an insult to the teams that actually know how to press, such as Bournemouth. This is just running around like headless chickens, there's no logic or structure behind it.

No it really doesn’t.

Spot on. Yet after 2 years the terminally stupid think you can discuss a teams faillings WITHOUT talking about the man who set up and strategies this utter shit show.

Forgive the ignorance on this one and whatever the answer is, we still ended up with the press broken so it was a fuck up somewhere..

But if Romero is pressing where Porro should be and Porro is covering CB, is that not just a pretty standard positional rotation that all teams have to do to cover when someone is out of position?
To support that a bit, Bournemouth never had a numbers advantage in that screenshot you put for that passage?

It seems the biggest fuckup is actually down our right with the MF and front 3 getting broken too easily
