Ex-Spurs Player Troy Parrott

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

he is 17 but with some kids you just know they have a great chance of making it, somehow they already exude a certain maturity. I felt the same the first time I saw Shearer and Rooney at a similar age

Be interesting to see how TP and United’s Mason Greenwood match up in this game, assuming they both play some part, which seems likely.

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing that match up too. Greenwood does look a hell of a player, ridiculously two footed. Takes free kicks with either foot - you don't see that too often. Looks way above Rashford's level. Be interesting to see the progress of him and Parrott over the coming years.

TBH, the fact that Parrot's not English will help alot. The pressure and opp hatred and resentment won't be there in the same way.

Sad but true.

I bang on about this but physical strength is so important in the game of football. There is talk of Parrott making his debut for Ireland at the age of 17. It just so happens that Robbie Keane made his debut for Ireland at the same age. However, Keano was pretty well built for a 17 year old and probably at least a year ahead of Parrot in terms of development and what he could do on the pitch. Having said that, Parrott is no weakling.

Ireland were a lot better back in his day though. I watch 90% of their matches and I genuinely think Parrott might be their best option at the moment without even considering potential. They're not very good and up front in particular the other options are absolutely woeful.

I'm really optimistic about Parrott. The skill he is showing for a 17 year old is incredibly impressive. I think he has the potential to be a star. We shall see.

I tend to be very sceptical when youth are being hyped up to be the next big thing, either based on what they show at youth level - as in the case of Edwards, or on what they show with the adults in friendlies - as in the case of Oduwa. Particularly in the latter category there seem to be a couple of players for each club, each pre-season, that fans expect will break through in the following season and become a big star.

Most of these players, however, quite clearly have weaknesses that in a best-case scenario means that they are not ready to break through yet, and in most cases means they will never get anywhere near the top. With Oduwa it was clear that his playstyle was way to showboaty and ineffective. With Skipp, last season in particular, you could see that although he was good, he had mistakes in him and lacked some physicality.

With Parrott though, I can't see him not becoming great. His playstyle seems intelligent and efficient, his touch brilliant, his strength excellent, and - based on the interview he gave after the Juve game - his desire and love for the game measured and huge at the same time.

I can't wait to follow his rise.

Fuck me he’s looked promising in these last two matches, nice to have another Irishmen at the club. Even if he’s half as good as the last Irish striker we had, were in good shape. Here’s hoping for a long and prosperous career here for the young lad.
