Canada have been performing well lately, but I noticed that Englishman is no longer managing them, do you think he laid down a good foundation in the few years he was there?Anyone catch the game today? How did it go?
I do think he was good for the program. Herdman had the team believing and us qualifying for the last World Cup was immense. After years (maybe decades ) of CSA (Canada Soccer Association) being completely inept and causing problem after problem, they finally got it right when they shifted Herdman from the women’s team to the men.
Then, after he left to go to Toronto FC, the Marsch hire appears to be very good. We had a good showing at the Copa Americas this summer, and the team seems to be playing progressive football. That was our first win on US soil since 1967 (I think?), and next up we have Mexico. That will be a tough one for us, but a good yardstick for how we do against the 16th ranked team.

That’s kind of the point. The league is prioritised above the national team. The FA don’t really care about actually winning much, they just want a manager that is good at PR, that is a world away from the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Woolwich cut throat building brutal teams. Other countries like Germany make the national team important and expect it to perform, mediocre managers that the FA accept would not be tolerated in Germany. The Euro’s is in the words of Zidane harder to win than the World Cup so you have to take it very seriously if you actually want it.
Man City for example play better football than every international team combined. International football is piss poor compared to domestic football and in England that is simply taken to a greater extreme where the nation side is far less relevant than club sides. I disagree with this approach but that is how the FA and the premier league have worked it out.

He's also willfully overlooking the bit that citizens of places like the US just will not get. Most of us don't care. If he conducted a poll on this forum the numbers in favour of a Spurs ECL/ EPL win over England world cup/ Euros win would be crushing. It always amused me when England start a tournament slow and the French or American's turn up trying to get a rise (playfully ) out of us to be met with a hearty
Only one bloke here would bite. I'm going to be honest I'm always mildly relieved when our country exits a tournament. And it never effects my mood. They should go canvass on Merseyside too. I'd actually swap 1966 for a Spurs title.
