Different systems, though.

Prior to this season it was some pleb in the VAR room drawing a line on the pitch. The thickness of the line added a bit more tolerance.

This season, it uses automated systems. Where even the slightest body part in an offside position shows.

This is the point I was making: there is still an allowable margin of error even with SAOT, so players can be technically offside but the goal will count.

From the article I posted:
But when the Premier League introduced SAOT it wanted to continue with the tolerance level, to give some leeway to the attacker. That is because there are still questions about treating this new technology as flawless.

It is also why you will get situations like Wirtz, who appears to be just offside, but SAOT will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Agreed. I don't like VAR but, if we're going to have it then, as you say, give the advantage to attacker and make it consistent. My problem with the Wirtz incident is that it's the first time I can recall seeing an offside given as a goal. I seem to recall similar situations resulting in goals being disallowed.

Are you surprised it was given to a Liverpool player, who needed a goal, in a game where Liverpool needed a goal?

The weird thing is Wirtz looked offside, though he was offside, his manager thought he was offside - everyone thought he was offside EXCEPT apparently the semi automated tech.

Compare with the offside given against Wissa where he looked onside or one in the Brentford Everton game which again looked onside.

Just confusing

That's the thing... the SAOT did flag Wirtz offside. But, because the offside rule apparently allows for a small margin of error (something I wasn't aware of), the goal was allowed to stand.

Yeah - I mean that, too the naked eye, there were other offside which looked far more "tight" that didn't get this "small margin of error" thing. So weird.

They did not show our goal back countless times or draw lines but had VAR been there could it have been ruled out because a toenail was offside? I know at the time I was glad there was no VAR even though we might have been ok.
 
Half season report is now out.
Games affecting us

PGMOL say was an error not to send off Romero in away match versus Brentford. They admit to 13 errors this season, this is only one affecting Spurs

Key match incident panel suggest the following should have happened on field, but agree were not clear and obvious errors
Oscar Bobb should have had a penalty awarded to him against us
Micky van de Ven disallowed goal versus West Ham
Archie Gray penalty versus Brentford
Romero should have been dismissed against Brentford in the home match (as well as the away match)

No other incidents, including missed second yellow cards in any of our matches according to PGMOL or the Panel

Self regulated bollocks.

What about the City keeper against us?
What about Liverpool's 2nd goal that was the same as the one we had disallowed?
They fess up to things that don't appear to have changed the outcome of a game.
If it was crucial, it gets buried.

Although it took me about 3 angles to find the right one. However the right one, coincidentally, is the one closest to the linos view.
