Match We can be heroes part two Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester united UEFA Cup final. Bilbao 21st May

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Now talking about European Trophies ...... The Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1970 ...... just about scrapes past the european trophy 'sniff test' but its about one step above an Audi Trophy or Peace Trophy ...... but only just

And the Cup Winners Cup in 1994 ......... and ooh look that's it, nothing more.

VERSUS

2 x UEFA Cup (now renamed the UEFA European League) in 1972 and 1984
1 x UEFA European League 2025
1 x Cup Winners Cup in 1963.

I count 4 European Trophies verses may 2 European Trophies

So which club has won most in Europe out of Tottenham and Woolwich ?

apparently we won because we used dark arts (red cafe)

I think we can all agree now that the Europa is a top competition, perhaps only behind the Premier League and Champions League itself in terms of prestige.

It frustrated me immensely how during the Poch era we would pretty much throw the Europa every season in favour of going after top 4. (Although obviously qualifying for the Champions League was ace.) Playing our reserves and getting bossed by Belgian Town FC every Thursday felt very much like a purely financial decision that had come from the moneymen.

I really, really wish it was still called the UEFA Cup.
If Levy isn't ambitious enough to try and actually win the CL or the Prem, he should instead look to try and replicate Sevilla's old model, but adapted to the current UEFA format.

Build a team that is strong enough to win the EL, then build a team that can do decently in the CL (and on its day go deep), and manage to qualify for the EL through the league. Rinse and repeat.

Maybe not the most ambitious setup that most of us want. But would we complain about a European final every two years?
