Says a lot that Niko is now behind Livermore (& that I can't really disagree with that decision, on today's evidence). However, still think that he's not Spurs quality - no forwards movement of note while he was on the pitch. Losing Sandro & Gallas was big tonight, as well - definitely a youth team to play the FA Cup match, I think, just so we don't pick up any more injuries!

My opinion of this season is that we've played well with width but we're not great at crosses from the corner of the box when we make it a bit narrower. This is something we're going to need to work on, especially if we've got a profligate striker (Adebayor) & a good but slightly twitchy striker (JD). We always seem to be in control until it's time for the final ball & when Modric & Van der Vaart aren't supplying that final ball (as they weren't today) then we look like we're in serious trouble.

Big win...they all are at this stage.

Atmosphere tonight.was shit
We are literally the shittest team in the league at corners.
Injuries are catching up.
But we won.
Hope king is ok for Everton
Thought Kaboul was immense

Atmosphere was a bit shit but where I was in Park Lane nobody knew that someone had died. It was a tense night, very frustrating watching us be so dominant and yet be our own worst enemies at the same time.

Was fearing we would never score, then when we did, West Brom started to look like they would get one back.

Livermore got picked ahead of Niko because we needed a DM. Also I think it's unfair to criticise Niko too much, he gets chucked a few minutes here and there.

Thought we gave possession away far too easily, too often last night. Some of the short passing was just rash, and the corners were mostly shit. Again. Having said that, we got a lot right too. Sibs' stats make interesting reading.

We've learned how to win ugly, which everyone says is what champions do. I just hope we can make sure we always win games we dominate also. Would have been so frustrated to come away from that with a point.

4 or 5 years ago Chelsea (and a year or two maybe Woolwich) passed this off as a dominant win.

Not saying that it's acceptable.

Just not saying it isn't.

Don Juan surely banged more than a few rough broads in his time....

3 points is what we needed and we got it so I'm not going to moan too much. Ok it wasn't the prettiest game of football I've ever witnessed but if you had offered me a 1-0 before the game I probably would have taken it as I really couldn’t be fucked with the game with it being the first day back at work etc. And I’d just like to add it is also very difficult to play our fast free flowing passing game against a team who literally played with 11 men behind the ball until we went 1-0 up. Woy got his tactics almost spot on and could of easily come away with a point last night so I’m happy with the huge 3 points!!

Oh and 6 points clear of the scum with a game in hand.....Do do dooo wankers!!!!

The squad looks tired, I think we're going to need some rotation for the 2nd half of the season. Clearly we've not played great over the last 2 matches, that said we dropped the least number of points over the x-mas period of the top 4 teams, and have demonstrated that we can win games when not playing great. Hopefully our injury situation is not too bad, desperately need either parker or sandro to recover soon, the last ten minutes of last nights game would have been considerably easier with them on the pitch.

(still can't log in as kangarisntpro on my work machine :S)

Was a tough match last night. As mentioned, it was all there for us to see just how tired our major players are and we seriously need to give them a break.

I was worried on more than one occasion when Bale went down, can't imagine what would happen if we lost him for a prolonged period of time.

This was a very similar display to the Sunderland match; a team putting as many people behind the ball as possible, happy to give us possession until the final third where they put the tackle in. It did give Kaboul a chance to do his 'I'm a midfielder, honest' motion and run through the midfield down to the byline a fair few times 'Zokora-esque' (but with an end product.) Also, I didn't realise until last night just how fast Kaboul is!?

I'm starting to think that is how all teams (bar Chelsea/Goons/ and the Manchester's) will lineup against us, putting as many men behind the ball as possible at doubling up on Bale, trying to keep it 0-0/ 1-0 as late as possible, then hit us on the counter once we start to get tired. If we had Lennon on, I think we would of put a few more chances away as it gives us another outlet on top of Walker and BAE.

Anyhoo, was great to get the win. Ugly win is ugly and all that jazz.

COYS.

I thought Bale in the middle with two strikers didn’t really work as we lost our shape a little.

Hopefully with a weeks break, Parker, King, Lennon all come back fit and we’ll be firing on all cylinders for the bluescouse game!

Come on Spurs let’s open up that gap even further!

I very much doubt the atmosphere was poor because some poor soul died last night. Not many would have even known.
I wonder if sine fans are just beginning to expect us to win all the tine.
that said there were 3 teenagers sat in front of me who were on their blackberrys constantly and did not cheer shout clap one single time, like they were too cool for all that. It annoyed me

you can't win every game with ease and flamboyancy. We're winning when not playing that well and have managed 8 points over the busy festive period from 3 tough games and West Brom at home. We haven't played very well in any of the games if we're honest. Maybe the Norwich game was the exception but even then without two excellent pieces of work from Bale we would've struggled to win that one too.

Play badly but beat Everton and we've got a 9 point gap and better goal difference (so might as well be 10 point gap) over 5th place as well as an 8 point gap over 4th. Then we can really start looking up instead of down and would need a shockingly bad second half of the season for this not to be considered one of the best in the last 40+ years.

As for the atmosphere, people are saying it like it's a surprise. The better a side gets, the worse the atmosphere gets at home games that aren't considered "big games". I saw plenty of people predicting 3-0, 4-0 wins against a well drilled West Brom side. That's just not likely.

Either way, with the returning Lennon we should get some of our swagger back although I'd like to see us persevere with the 4231 or like last night the 4312 formations. Once the team gets the hang of these they'll be even better, especially as they both give Bale more license to move into the "Ronaldo" role which is where I see him playing in the future and scoring goals galore.

Good time for the FA Cup to roll around though considering some of the injuries and the rest that's needed.

The atmosphere was rubbish in the new year game against Fulham last year as well. Fan fatigue, as well as player fatigue. And both games against teams we'd expect to beat.

Should be better, especially when we're in with a title shot, but let's not start hating ourselves!
