West Ham - League cup game

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We either want to be a serious club and manager or we don't.

Yesterday was arrogance beyond acceptance in my book.

"it's only the league cup"

We say as fans of a club that don't pull up trees in any other competition.

We will get there. Would be nice to have won a trophy on the way.

Anyway, we move on. Big game against United at the weekend. Let's not fall 8 points behind.

A draw is a good result on Saturday
I will be the first to calm down if we get that.

City will have a blip but like the last 2 seasons they are like the front runner who keeps going.

The fact that you are arrogant enough to think that your acceptance matters in the bigger scheme of things says it all.

Look at Woolwich fan TV, if this was 1990 they would be all rejoicing with 3 FA cup wins recently, but their club is a mess, they never even mention the cup wins, they are not even celebrating them for more than 10 minutes, the game has changed and within 10 years I would wager this is no longer even a competition sadly.

Yes it would be good for this spurs team to win a trophy and yesterday was annoying but just because you beat West Ham doesn't put you in the final, there are other teams who are competing and want to win too, we have no right to simply win a trophy

May I refer the honourable member to Post #2087 in the Sissoko thread
A positive post after our win in the league game against them.
Just one of many

Meh... Your own comments (to which i responded earlier above) directly portray that you view this place as little more than somewhere to vent your anger/dissapointment... A stance your have stated on numerous occasions in tbe past too.

(Let's not pretend i am simply expressing an aversion to alt. or negative opinions... Afterall, my post-match isnt exactly briming with praise... As i already stated i think your smart enough to see beyond your own "little ol me" protestations.)

It does however contradict your previous suggestion, that the skill level of those on the pitch was insufficient.

We should have won the game with the team we put out, i admit that. Toby in the middle should have got them organised and Vorm had a shocker and is clearly a better keeper than that.

We have proved time and time again that whilst we have alot of talented fringe players who can step in and cover admirably - when we try and play too many second string player in the same team we struggle. We did it in the Europa every year as far back as i can remember. I dont think there is any other team in the league that can say they wouldn't struggle.

There is an obligation to give these fringe players minutes to try and force their way into the first team because players like Winks and Kane have to start somewhere.

Correct but losing yesterday FFS.

18 other league clubs would disagree. 2nd place in the league is a far, far greater achievement than winning the nobody wants to sponsor it cup. Surely you can see that?

Finishing 2nd is a massive achievement I agree. But we're not too big or too good to perform in a cup.

Again, I'm not upset we lost. Losses happen. We've lost to worse. It was the manner that's all.

Would people of swapped our 3rd place finish in 15/16 for a Europa finish and a win against Woolwich in the league cup? Or last seasons 2nd place finish for a Europa finish and a win against Liverpool in the league cup?

Of course its all if, buts and maybe's but the point is, we lost to Woolwich 2 years back and smashed City a few days later which was seen as a season changing event. Breaking the Top 4 stranglehold in the league is the most important thing Poch has done for this club.

I'm gutted and want to win a trophy as much as the next person but anyone saying they would rather finish 6th and win a league cup, no you wouldn't! You're just angry we lost and you are not thinking straight. You'd be more upset when we lose Hugo, Toby, Eriksen, Dele, Kane, Dier and Rose to Champions league teams than you are today because we lost one game to West Ham. (And this will happen if we fall down the league)

That isn't to say that its impossible to do both, and we should still of won yesterday anyway. However Poch is absolutely right to prioritise Saturday over yesterday. Stop caring about what opposition fans might be saying about us and just enjoy how far we've come.

Also I agree that the whole 'bigger fish to fry' statement can be a bit snobby and i'd rather fry every fish too. However if your forcing me to throw away a nice bit of halibut or a can of tuna, i'm throwing away the tuna every time.

Gotte be in it to win it as they say...

However.... Fair points, except im not inclined to measure myself against those deluded, spoiled twats.

I celebrated 2008 like a madman... I suspect i wouldnt be any different in 2017.

Must admit it feels rather contradictory that some in this thread see the FACup as somehow another level of worthyness yet will no doubt validate this notion by references to the prestige it held IN THE PAST...
