With the use of technology it is relatively simple to determine whether the ball has touched the area of the body designated as the hand. After that the simplicity evaporates.....historical considerations have included intent, unnatural position, proximity, velocity and deflection to name a few. With so many aspects to consider it is little wonder there is so much controversy surrounding these decisions and that's before the added burden of subjectivity is thrown into the mix.

It is extremely rare that a player intentionally handles the ball. Natural position, expected position, deflection off another part of the body, did the player have time to react, etc... All subjective and it will remain subjective until the end of time. As unlucky as I thought it was, I couldn't argue with the Romero call vs Woolwich, the ball was headed in, his upraised hand stopped it even though for me, for a player going down the way he was, it was in an "expected position." What is needed is consistency. Consistency and yellow cards given to the likes of Salah who seems to flick the ball towards defenders bodies multiple times a game and scream for handball.

Did you think the one against Man Utd was a penalty, would be interesting to know your thoughts on that and where you draw the line?

...Not forgetting that some people have bigger hands than others. It's a minefield.

I don't think that defenders should have to defend with their hands behind their backs just in case they accidentally give away a penalty for handball.

The issue with the United one for me was how far out it was. The likelihood that the one vs Woolwich ends up in the net if it doesn't hit his hand is near on 100% because Biss is not getting there
