What positionings need strengthening?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don't mean to sound all Tim Sherwood, but I do think we need to probably buy from within PL this year, just to avoid any risk of repeating the long settling in times we've experienced with current lot. Can sadly see a lot f our lot trying to force moves (successfully or unsuccessfully) so GK, LB, CB, and FW are a must.

Please, please, please: let's stop stock piling midfielders.

I will procure a limousine of strippers and film it for all of you if we manage to pull in Lukaku this summer. I just can't see Chelsea selling to us regardless and as I think it's likely Everton will secure CL football (because of City's likely imminent FFP punishment), I think he'd choose them over us anyway as they may have the funds consequently available.
I will be absolutely shocked if UEFA suspend Man City from the Champions League immediately. And even if they do, no doubt City will appeal to CAS which will put their suspension on hold until a hearing in court.

These guys have billions of pounds, and they must have some wonderful minds behind the scenes running the figures. I believe it would be an injustice if they don't get banned, but I just can't see UEFA suspending the top sides in Europe to the detriment of their own show piece event.

While I agree with you on the positions that indeed need strengthening, I repeat that just because Baldini has a shit eye for talent and Prem-suitability doesn't mean we should change our transfer policy. We should indeed be more prudent, but there are some of those positions (LW and LB in particular) where better options lie abroad. We shouldn't limit ourselves because one man is shite at his job.

On the midfielders, if it isn't good enough it isn't good enough. I'd like to see us make some sales, but we are in particular need of a specific kind of CM that we haven't had since Modric left. The players we currently have are too similar and unbalanced.

I don't think Baldini identified bad players; (bar perhaps Chadli) I'd take them all back under different circumstances.

After the manager appointment
1. Centre backs - any of Caulker, Collichini, Schar, Veltman
2. Left Back - who can get that would come to us ?
3. Left/Right Midfielder/Striker - Welbeck, Remy ?
4. Goalkeeper - replacement for Friedel someone like McCarthy, Darlow, Marshall

This is Spurs though, so it will need to be shetland ponies
Nah
lets get a Clydesdale, this ones almost in the right colours....

That's fair, but what is not debatable is that he did not buy the right players for the positions we needed, and he arguably bought players that many debated would not be suited to the Prem regardless. So my point is that we cannot necessarily rule out foreign talent for positions of need because results went poorly this season, when it could be argued the wheels were loose at the starting line.

I think we need to re-asses this time next year about weather or not they're capable of playing in the prem. To me, DoF got shit done, Paulinho was stalling loads, then within days of Baldini being appointed they wrapped it up. People were creaming over Lamela, Capoue, Soldado and the likes too, the former too were also coveted by Woolwich. I still hold a lot of hope for all of them.

In regards to foreign talent; it's not about weather or not they're English, it's just having some PL experience is less of a gamble in a season where we could really fall away if we're not careful (current top 4 plus Everton and Man U will all strengthen).

Not everyone was "creaming" about those players, there were quite a few who expressed doubts about each of the players and their suitability. There's no doubt that Baldini's a golden negotiator, but I don't think he has the right eye for talent, and he especially proved incapable of identifying squad weaknesses.

You're absolutely right Prem-proven players are less of a gamble, but there are two extremes in moving for all Prem players and all foreigners. We have a couple positions (LW, dynamic CM, arguably LB) where EPL talent would not be as suitable to our squad needs. CB, GK, and ST however, are positions where we could strengthen from EPL or even HG talent. Put simply, because it's the major concern I had with Baldini's summer, we need to accurately identify areas of need and adequately assess the most suitable options for each individual position regardless of where they've come from. Transfer mantras one way or the other are simply detrimental to improvement.
