Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I thought he was excellent today. He’s so clever in the positions he takes up. He makes great runs too. As someone said earlier I’d like to see him have a pop at goal when it’s on.

He can certainly play and if he had a striker that can really shift he’ll find those runs in behind. Tel done ok today but we need Solanke or Muani back soon or sign someone in January.

Good players need good players around them and that’s when these players thrive.

With more of a presence up front to bother the CBs he'll find little gaps to get those shots off too.

was defo his best game in a spurs shirt, the silly rabona when its 1-1 is pathetic tho, theres a time and place. get the job done before trying to take the piss.

hope frank pulls him up on that, its proper muggy.

Thought he was very good today! Changes the tempo of the game and always wants to progress the football! The rabonna was silly, but the game is about style and I’m happy to pay my money to watch players try this stuff and take risks

It looks like he's getting better game by game. I don't mind the high risk passes and rabonas... when it comes off its highlight reel stuff... just feel he needs a goal to settle him in, but I'm convinced he's gonna be a big player for us... wonder if you can get him and Madders in the same team?

He played some really good incisive passes today, he's essentially the main creative outlet along with Kudus in our team.

We looked clueless attacking wise when he went off.

And for that joker saying he was shit today, give your head a wobble you clearly didn't watch the game, he was one of our best players.

We also have to take into account he's come from the Bundesliga which is the biggest fraud league known to mankind where most midfielders/attacking wide players look absolutely lost when trying to adjust to this league.

Sancho, Gittens, Havertz (when playing in midfield), Wirtz, kagawa, Mykatarian, Schweinsteiger, Werner, Keita and I'm probably missing loads.

It's a myth league so compared to what they've done he's started quite well tbf.

Very promising signs. Inside the next 10 games he'll be up to speed. Always going to be a bit inconsistent as he is a creative player, being 22 and the delicate nature of that role, along with the bluster of the premier leagues physicality, means he'll have a few good games in a row then probably a nothing showing.
9/10 times he pulls off that rabona pass, i reckon. And though a bit pissed off he wasnt clinical there, I'd rather see this sort of player in a Spurs shirt. Looked miffed to go off, but I think he'll get to understand the league, especially away games, you need to shut up shop and Frank matching their formation was the right thing to do.
He'll be very good for us, and I for one am looking forward to the day he just absolutely bosses a game and we see his talent in our shirt.

Him and Kudus were the best players on the pitch today. He uses his body well for a slightly built man. He’ll add goals soon the more he plays more central even though he peels into that inside left position. He’s also very elusive as at times you think he’s going g to get caught or clattered but gets himself away from players. He had a bit of skill early second half where he took two players out the game that was magnificent.

I’m happy to be able to go to a game like today and see players like Xavi and Kudus for Tottenham again. When Xavi went off any threat we had went off with him. Kudus went off for 8 minutes and the ball never stuck once. If we are to have a very good season then these two are so important to that.

Add in a very good left winger and striker to this team and we could become a real force. I thought Odobert and Tel done their bit today but as has been said for 2 seasons left winger and centre forward must be upgraded.

I do wonder if we can fit in Maddison as a left winger next to simons, and essentially have it be freeflowing with them and the striker. Many modern forward lines interchange, and we looked good doing it today with odobert and simons.

I think he performed today as Frank described it in his pre match interview, promising glimpses of what he wants without reaching the level of consistency required, but thankfully seems to be improving with every game. Some real good passes and movement today, but maybe needs to bulk up a bit for this league and his work ethic requires a bit of attention as well, tracking back is not his strong point.

Watching the game again and even when he starts 10 he likes to drop into the left half-space to pick up and operate.

Deeper as well.

Just naturally drifts over there.

Makes sense when you see his behaviour at RBL.

Talk about him not being able to play left is a dud, really, it's what he does.

But when you start him 10 he's more inclined to keep heading back there to threaten, which suits us.

I think that was our set up more than anything because Kudus was often in the right half space as well. We had some lopsided set up for build up where one of the FB always started deeper

Looks like it’s by design from Frank because they want Simons in his most dangerous area whilst he adapts to the league.

Kudus wasn't playing 10.
