Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It's not his fault that he cost £60m.

He's 22, played in a lesser league and has played less than 10 games for the club. He hasn't set the world alight by any means but what happened to giving youngsters a bit of fucking time?
Anybody writing him off also probably reminisces about Modric being incredible from day one, or Eriksen tearing it up under AVB and Sherwood in his first season.

Tbf having to play with richie and tel and odovert is like walking with one leg
Correct. Good players need good players around them and we don’t have enough. I think Simons will be a cracking player for us but we need a striker he can fire the ball into and trust to keep it because he’s so good at playing it into a striker and going to get it again. That then gets him in and around the box where we need him to be.
At this moment our options up top are utter shit at holding the ball up.

This thread highlights everything wrong with modern football and Spurs fans.

Too many, too eager to shit on every player, because they are not Messi from the get go.

Just zero patience, arrogant snobbery that they know everything, applying zero context or nuanced understanding of circumstances, just instant shit on and slag off everything.

It's ashameful, and reading some posts, I feel embarrassed to be a fan.

Give the kid a fecking break, get behind him, he has already shown some serious top draw stuff.

But nah, some of you will knocking one out in excitement for every mistake he makes, eager to slag him off at the first opportunity... And it's the same for Frank and so many others.

Good post my friend. 👏

I agree with your general point about giving time but we always seem to be in a situation when we're waiting/giving time to either players, managers, or squad building, when do we actually get to the place when the waiting is over?

Very different scenario from tel and odobert age wise.

Simons has had 10 games. He's been played out of position for half of them because of squad imbalance and as a warm up.

It'll take time. I expect to see some bright consistency by the spring. In particular if/once we get more technical players in for him to play off of.

That, fixing our lw, and improving our ball carrying in the two cm positions will be key to helping him take off as a 10.

Poor club management for 20 years.

Yes we have had so good starting 11's but we have never had a really squad with proper depth.

As soon as, a player gets injured, we are screwed.

So we are waiting on a lot of players, because that is all we have.

So we have a lot of inexperienced youngsters, with a bunch of senior players performing poorly.

The squad is a mess, that is Xavi's fault, but rather 20 odd years of Levy.

Every club is the same. Woolwich are just there now after years with Arteta. The reason they are there now is because they have continually been backed and they have got to the point where it’s falling into place. We back a manager in one window then don’t back that up in the next and then that manager gets punted then we start again. You can’t build anything successful if you don’t keep backing the manager and let them build. Liverpool took a while too but they got there. We just don’t back managers over a period of time.

I don't just mean this specific team/version of Spurs but we've been giving managers time, and players time, pretty much constantly since the old stadium closed, we're seemingly in an never-ending waiting situation.

By the time some of our younger players get to where they need to be, we'll have a new manager, then we have to wait until he's settled in and implemented his ways.

The time when we can stop waiting and have a top four team, a manager, seems like a mirage, or trying to find the end of a rainbow.

Why can Liverpool change managers, add new players and seemingly be unaffected and carry on as they were, but we have to be in this waiting state of suspension?

Because liverpool never let their squad disintegrate like levy did circa 2017-2024.

Liverpool prior to 2012 is closer to where we are now. Young, on the potential up, but needing major investment and development.

Let's see if we actually get it right this time.

I've been disappointed in how he has played but also he needs time to adjust. Unfortunately, we don't care too much about being patient these days.

Last season was the first time in years we started and finished the season with the same manager for two years on the trot.

And guess what we won a trophy!! A European one.
And then we sack the most successful Spurs manager of this century.

We really are our own worst enemy. Back to more transitional seasons.

Meanwhile Woolwich have stuck with arteta and now seem to be favourites to do the prem and CL double.

Look at what he did at Nottingham mate. It's what he was doing to us all of last season. We made the right choice - let it go.

Had only seen him playing for Holland before we signed him and was struggling to see what his fans were seeing. Thought he played well against Leeds so he can do it in the right circumstances but looks completely void of confidence. Problem is there's so little creativity in the team all of the pressure is on him to produce. He's struggling to cope with the responsibility atm.

Still trying to be flash at the wrong moments and shooting at the wrong moments and choosing not to shoot at the wrong moments.

Has to try and somehow find his rhythm.

Difficult with how our forward dynamic is right now as he has nothing to get his teeth into, tho.
