Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He plays and tries when he does, which is all it takes to avoid Ndombele comparisons.

Xavi wasn't good today and is definitely a bit of a show pony for the scrap we're in, but he's played well lately and is all we've got from a creative perspective.

Xavi has had a fair few good games recently, but as soon as we move him out to the left he's rubbish.... coz idiot managers refuse to use Tel, Souza et al...

It's the same shit England has had for decades, don't play the players best suited for those position, just square pegs to squeeze the best players in and create an unbalanced broken shit show.

Again, he's new to the league, in a disfunctional team and he's constantly been played out of position - LWF, RWF, 2nd striker, CM. He's a COM and that's about the only position where he's done well this season

We called it
Chip on his shoulder type character , will turn up when it suits him .
I think everyone called it early - he turns up in the Champions League, plays better when the games are lower intensity. Too many times he loses the ball, misplaces a pass and instead of running around to win it back throws his hands in the air blaming others. He was a terrible buy, a lightweight player not good enough for the Premier League. We will end up selling him to mid level team in France where he'll do okay. If he had gone to Chelsea he would have played once in a while and looked okay and then they sell him for a big loss without caring. Unfortunately for us we absolutely needed him to show up and he hasn't.

couldnt agree more, hes not wise enough to deal with the intensity of this league, hes physically deficient for premier league football, he doesnt have the wisdom or the technical brilliance to override it. its easy to look ok when you get given loads of time on the ball, different sport with players breathing down your neck constantly.

hes exposed himself now in this league too, teams will know they just have to stick it on him and he doesnt have the power, or speed to get out of trouble.

He properly pissed me off yesterday for the first time. So frustrating.

Tbh we're so bereft of technique and passing in the middle I'd consider just playing him as a CM at this point. He's about the only player we've got that can pick a pass AND take the ball under pressure. Think he'd played there for the national team so wouldn't be completely alien to him and, while he's small, he doesn't mind getting stuck in. Put Palhinha next to him to do the pure destructive stuff and try him as a deep lying playmaker.

Could obviously backfire as he's pretty flaky and could just give the ball away in deeper areas like a bellend, but he's clearly crap off the left and we don't have many other options.

If we went down the 3-4-3 route - having him as one of the 2 in the middle with Palhinha I could definitely see that work.

We had a spare with us Thursday and, having offered to pretty much every spurs fan I knew, no takers I took a neighbour who’s a Newcastle fan.
Was interesting getting his take on the game as he watches a fair bit of football but had hardly seen Spurs this season. Xavi came on and he was very surprised - had heard the narrative that he’s poor but watching him play he said you could see he was a class above everyone else on the pitch. He was particularly surprised at his work rate - tracking back and tackling.
