Player Xavi Simons

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I think its a combination of Frank's negative coaching and our awful squad profiling. That article floating around sums it up - Lange has gone hard on 90th+ percentile athletes across the squad at the expense of actual footballers.

Xavi's clearly not suited to the Prem but if you coached him well and surrounded him with a few other technical players he'd look much better - and we've seen flashes of that in Europe this season when Odobert was playing next to him.

If you play Simons at 10 you need two strong midfielders behind him. And that’s the problem.
Simons is going to be the weak link in a 3. Physically and he also concedes possession quite often too.

So who are the two top quality players you put in behind him from our squad?

I see people saying play Bergvall, gray and Simons. That midfield is getting eaten alive.

Not really, the majority of those starts were in Europe where the physical demands are much lower.

In the PL he can’t handle it, easily bullied and can’t get the weight of basic passes right when players are flying at him. We need to play him now because we’ve tried everything else but nobody should be surprised if he stinks the place out. He’s another Bryan Gil.
Also didn't manage the full 90 in any of those PL wins.
There's more to it than whether he started.
First thing, Kudus also started most/all of those league wins.

Palhinha should be playing. I don't know what the fuck he's not playing, was our best player the time we won games. Palhinha and Bergvall could be a good midfield.

Yes I posted the other day that Simons would make a decent no 10 provided he had Paulinha to help him and if you add Berg to the mix then we could have a decent midfield but the forward line would remain a problem.

Xavi will most likely be let free to take on a more creative role ; score two goals , create another three and inspire us to a breathtaking swashbuckling victory on Saturday .

And then turn his ankle and tear his MCL jumping to high-five Milesy after his congratulationary post-match interview.

Yeah but Bergvall is young and then becomes the weak link so you probably need to think about Sarr.

Which I think is where we keep falling down. As then Bergvall just ends up pushing into that 10 role more.

Buying Bergvall and Gray two very similar players and not loaning one out has created this mini issue.
I’m sure it will do their careers the world of good. Very good experience. But probably to our detriment rather than benefit.

I like Simons as a footballer. I’m just never surprised to see young players from Spain / France and Germany take time to adjust. It’s the norm. The exception is a player hitting the ground running and keeping that form up for a season.

If I know it our recruitment team should.

Simon’s just needs to move up another gear now. He’s got the potential.

I remember the halcyon days in the transfer thread where he wasn't good enough for us...

:levysad:
Cherki would be shite for us. At City they only care about winning...losing is not an option. He respects Guardiola and his teammates...role models like Bernardo Silva, John Stones, Rodri. You suck, you don't play. You fanny about, you don't play. Ask Foden.

Was never a question of talent with him, he's got unreal tekkers. Was always about his attitude. It ain't an issue at a serious, proper big club like City...it would be here cause well...Spurs a la ENIC.

Being good in the Bundesliga doesn’t mean you can make it in the PL. It’s the most demanding league and any flaws in your game will be horribly exposed here. It’s happened to Xavi, Wirtz, Sahin, Kagawa, Muani and countless other Bundesliga to PL flops.

Xavi is a good player for the Bundesliga, no doubt. But we don’t play in the Bundesliga. If he’s failed to convince three managers that he’s good enough to start in the PL then that doesn’t bode well for his adaptation.

Sounds like De Zerbi is implying that Xavi isn't working hard enough. He mentioned that he needs characters in his team, sounds to me as if he doesn't fancy him for those reasons.
