Stats Yellow & Red Cards

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I have posted the rules in the next post but it looks likely a couple of our players will be getting at least a one game ban and, if they were to keep up this average, potentially a 2 or 3 game ban.

In the Premier League, a player receives a one-match suspension for receiving five yellow cards in their first 19 games.
  • A player receives a two-match suspension for receiving 10 yellow cards in their first 32 games

  • A player receives a three-match suspension for receiving 15 yellow cards in a season

  • Yellow cards are not carried over to the FA Cup or EFL Cup

  • Suspensions are only served in the competition where the yellow cards were received
Each league has its own rules for yellow cards, and some leagues are stricter than others. For example, in the UEFA Champions League, yellow cards and pending yellow-card suspensions expire after the play-offs and quarter-finals.

Was wondering about this so thanks for posting! Any chance of a white font though? I can't see jack over here lol

Edit: Right ok, the new look forum has a light/dark option which along with my dark mode add-on produced black fonts. Switched the forum back to default (light) and all is fine now. Thanks again for adding this info!

I've sorted it. When text is copy & pasted into a post, it can bring the font styles (colour, type etc) with it. Should appear white in dark mode now.

WTF, didnt realise Bentancur and Madders on 3 already with just 5 games played.

However, I hope the lads just play as normal. When they become hesitant of getting the 5th card fearing of a suspension the next game, they turned out to be very poor. We should have better depth than last season to get around this season.

Maddison is the one who needs to be a bit aware of this. Bentancur is probably getting suspended anyway.

VDV isn’t usually a yellow card type but he’s been playing with a bit of malice this season and I wouldn’t change it for the world. When you have a big mean cunt at the back, I don’t care who the forward is, they are looking over their shoulder. Especially when their other choice to attack is Romero.

Bentancur's are probably irrelevant - no one else is really close

For reference there are 14 other players in the PL also on 3 bookings

True but not true !

If a player gets 5 cards within 19 matches its a ban, so after 5 matches (about a quarter of the 19 matches), then anyone with more than 1 Yellow may find they are dangerously close, or exceeding, 5 cards within 19 matches.

So its certainly worth monitoring players positions - and fear of getting a card closer to 19 games may make players take less risks (eg not making a tackle), so it can be a tricky situation

As from the first match in the league phase, players and team officials are suspended for the next competition match after three cautions, that did not result in a red card, as well as after any subsequent odd-numbered caution (fifth, seventh, ninth, etc.).

As a rule, a player or team official sent off by the referee is automatically suspended for the next match. In the event of a serious offence, the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body is entitled to augment this punishment, including by extending it to other competitions.

In addition, all yellow cards expire on completion of the quarter-finals. They are not carried forward to the semi-finals.

Cautions and pending yellow-card suspensions expire at the end of the season.

It appears this rule which I copied and pasted from Google is incorrect.

Trossard was given a one-match ban, which he served during Woolwich's 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday night.
