The way I look at it, clubs that constantly do big name/money signings have little to no faith in their youth system to supply quality players and to an extent it should be seen as a failure. "We fail to produce good players internally so we have to look elsewhere for talent" could be an extreme way to look at it.

Pochettino obviously values youth and looks to promote internally whenever possible. We as fans need to have faith in that and trust that whatever signings we make will be done with the intention of complimenting what we already have within the organization.

I personally don't want Tottenham to become a club that has to "sign big" to be taken serious or feel that we have had a good window. I'd much rather that we sign the right players at the right time for the right price, and bring up youth players when possible/when they are ready. We can talk all we want about easing youth in but we also have to be ready to just give them a baptism of fire. If we believe in our youth system that should not be a problem.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico, Dortmund etc don't go and blow 100 of millions every window. They buy what they feel that they need to buy when they feel that they need to buy and focus on keeping existing squads together and building within the youth ranks. Up until recently United were the same way. I'd much rather we be seen in the same light as those clubs, than among the plastic clubs like City and Chelsea.

But mate that also works the other way there's loads of players poch has improved and made better players, signing someone is always a gamble.

Of course it is - that's why I said you've made a massive assumption in thinking that people don't want signings.

What we don't want is a raft of players who are turning up to take the money and not put in the effort. The hardest work Poch put into the club was getting rid of all of the players who didn't want to bleed for the badge.

If (and let's postulate for a second) we were linked to Neymar, bid accepted, all signs there, then Poch met him and decided he wasn't the right fit, then we'd need to accept that. It doesn't matter what we want, it's what he wants - it's on his neck.

Taking into account how much we know as fans (very very little) and how much the media throws us (lots of bullshit), it's just not worth getting melty over. All the reports, for example, say that Monaco don't want to sell Lemar and they won't sell him - yet some posters are blaming the club for not magically signing him for £30m just because some twat called Darren at the Mirror said we could.

I think they want to become the best team, and that means winning the league. A couple of 2nd tier trophies is not what they're in business for.

Yes they won 2 trophies, but let's not forget that turgid league campaign they had. Same goes for Woolwich and their FA Cup win, it papers over the cracks, but ultimately their fans will still be Wenger out and boring Mourinho ball. We may not have won anything but over the course of the season, it was one of the most enjoyable as a Spurs fan.

But it will come back around & they will win titles unfortunately.
Also, you would have to pretend it isn't a team that spends big that wins the title every year.
Sadly you need to spend big to regularly win titles.

You know you can... trippier.
You sly forgetful so & so.
Some think first 11 thinking is outdated now. You need a first 12 or 13...
What with probably 50+ games & the fact our first 11 managed 2 league games last season.

The Walker thread on the City forum was awash with people saying they'd rather have Trips back.

I think he's the most underrated player in our squad, and in a world where even an average WB is now £30m, I wouldn't fall off my stool if Trips was valued north of Walker by the end of the season.

Point taken about the 11+ squad size, but it was more in reference that the big spenders are literally just replacing their first XI, not adding to their first XVII

Dier got thrown in at the deep end against the Spammers and scored. Who is to say KWP cannot flourish if he's not given the chance? Every player starts somewhere.

Sessegnon is being spoken of on many a spurs forum (especially by the 'sign someone' band) as a superstar we let get away.

This time last year he'd just turned 16 and hadn't played a professional game in his life.

These lads have to have an origin. It's catch 22 to say they're not good enough before they've had a chance.

I think that's missing the point. What I said was people said "Depay/Martial were going to win Utd the league", not that "if we sign Depay/Martial....".

Regardless, they went to play under Van Gaal, who got a lot out of their academy and still he couldn't make use of the two. If we're going to tow the line of "Poch could have made that {insert flop here} good for us", where do you stop?

You could literally apply that to any player. He's not a magician though, and we've seen plenty that we've actually signed with high hopes, who leave with the door hitting their arse and Poch closing it.
True. So they might have helped us win the league if we had signed 1 of them.
Yes its guesswork if they would have been a success or flop here. So people can't say a flop elsewhere wouldn't have done better here.
Some of our successes might have been failures elsewhere.

I may be wrong but I thought martial did well under van gaal & it was jose who knocked his confidence.

I see we've gone full asylum again, great.

The medication wore off briefly

I think we (and most fans of most clubs) need to stop wetting ourselves whenever a youth player gets thrown into a first team game. Be it a soft entry or a baptism of fire.

If we have any belief and faith in our youth system we should be ecstatic. Not frightened

Yeah to a certain extent. He didn't set the world alight though. Same with Rashford really, but only one of them has managed to come through it. It makes me think that he'd have been no different to Soldado and Janssen so far, just more than the cost of both added together.

(Interestingly, Rashford and Solado are generally equal in terms of scoring record in England)

Fair enough. I still think more would prefer walker though.
