Ex-Spurs Player Gareth Bale

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A massively overhyped event. Wasn't upset about it then, less so now that we've been proved to have mugged Madrid. We were ALWAYS going to sell Bale with a world record fee on offer - his not playing was more to do with not wanting him to do a hamstring and blow up the deal than his trying to force a move. Where would be if he had played and wrecked his legs, Madrid went away and we were stuck with his fragility? Much happier the way things turned out.

Not bitter towards him, and glad Madrid are saddled with his wages and medical bills. Will be happy to see him finish out his career there.

Never understand the bitterness when there are other players who are held in high regard that did worse.

If you have a personal grudge at Bale for leaving us to treble his wages and win multiple champions leagues playing in sunny Spain you're utterly unrealistic.
That's basically the most singularly forgivable excuse for leaving Spurs.

If you wouldn't welcome back the best attacking player to play for the club after Hoddle and before Kane you're frothing-at-the-mouth mental.

Wages will make this impossible though.

I was about to go to town on you over Jimmy Greaves. Then I reread. A first for me. Normally a cunt first, think later kinda guy.

Bale coming back is not even worth considering, in my opinion. In my mind I don’t even get as far as debating the pros and cons of having him in our team, as it’s incredibly unlikely to ever happen.

Bale will want to stay at Madrid. We all saw his determined attitude to prove how great he is.

If he’s not wanted at Madrid he’ll most likely want to go somewhere where his career is perceived as at most a step sideways. Now I’m not saying that this current team (form aside) isn’t one of the best teams in Europe, but that going back to the club that sold you is definitely perceived as a step backwards for the player and his agent. The Manchester clubs are the most likely destination, and the smart money is on United as they have been desperate for him to be their new Giggs for ages.

When you throw salary and injuries into the mix it’s just a list of reasons why it won’t happen. The stars would really have to align before we can even start asking if he’s worth it.

His sick record outweighs any possible benefits to our cause. On his day, in his pomp, he is supreme. But he doesn’t play often enough. His repeated calf injuries suggest that he cannot be relied on. There aren’t many better players on their day, but Gareth Bale has always been injury prone. I just can’t see him coming back to us. Even if all the sums added up, I really don’t think he is a risk worth taking at his age & with his injury record. Let him shine one week every 3 or 4 (or for 2 months a season) for a club like Madrid who can just go out & buy a replacement every time their fans boo.

HEs played in 2 CL games this year: scored 1 assisted 2
4 starts in La Liga: scored 2 assisted 1

66 goals & 57 assists in LL and CL in 144 apps since 13/14

I don’t think he needs money. He must have made enough. So, if he’d be willing to take a basic salary on par with the others, and make it up in performance, appearance related bonuses and the price is right...why not.
Of course due diligence regarding the injuries.
What a player to have on the bench capable of setting up and scoring goals like this one a couple of months ago

Missed 21 games for us and about 66 for Real.
Roughly 12 games a season for them and about 5 for us.

I think Alderwiereld and Vertonghen have missed more games through injury for us than Bale ever did.

But I get the point.
It stems from his back, which we identified, that cause problems with leg injuries.
I wonder if Madrid looked after him as they must have known when buying him.

Maybe it’s fucked him now and the discs are too far gone.
However, I still think that if we did due diligence on him, it’s not too bad and it could be managed why not.
I doubt that though. It’s speculation.
Levy and Poch never ruled it out but they are not going to say yes or no. Why break a habit of a lifetime and talk about other clubs players coming here.

No chance he comes to be on the bench. He will be on par with Harry and Hugo in terms of stature.
To be honest I would take an injury prone bale if it meant sisokko being shipped out.
That trade is a no-brainer. These injuries though, just so hard to ignore. As average as Sissoko is, it's still better than a player who can't play.

Missing 40 of the last 60 Real games is such a huge issue for your star player. Which Bale would be.

As you say the injuries are hard to ingnore. No idea how he has managed to get so crocked in such a short space of time. Would it be any different had he stayed? Something we will never know is my guess.
