Toby was out for 3 months and we finished 1st in CL group stage, get result in Turin, still fighting for top 4 and we're gonna get it without him. He was great for us, but injury prone and we have world class potential in Sanchez. And we're gonna push for title next year. Trust the process.

So you keep saying. There’s nothing wrong with being critical where warranted. Unfortunately not many think criticism is warranted, as we’re seeing here today, as we see during transfer periods when we again underspend in Summer windows.
The overwhelming sentiment being that the club is right with its treatment of Alderweireld. Well frankly he’s worth what he’s asking for and if both clubs part ways over it then criticism of the club is deserved. That said nothing credible has yet come to light.
Alderweireld declared himself fit for the Juve game, Poch didn’t agree, but played him at Rochdale where he had a shocker. Poch was right, Alderweireld was wrong. I’m inclined to trust the manager on this. After buying two CB’s last summer it’s obvious this has been going on for a long time. He’s getting on, he’s still not fit, he’s injury prone, and we’ve coped pretty well without him. We’re unbeaten in all competitions this year. No other prem team can say that.
Exactly. Before his injury I'd have said Toby was about as important as anyone. But now, seeing Sanchez and how consistent and unaffected by big nights he's been it's evident that Toby isn't quite the integral piece he was.
Much like Rose was thought to be such a key player then Davies stepped up to the mark this season.

Again, it's not about paying Toby what he's worth, but then having to raise Hugo and Harry's wages immediately. And if Toby gets a 3-4 year contract as he is likely asking for, having a 32-33 year old CB on 150k.

Tbf he’s 3x better then the average PL CB, it’s a lot of money obviously but he’s worth he’s one of the top CBs in the world and we would be poorer without him.
The whole point of the new stadium was to compete with the likes of United and City and we never will if we continue to pay mid table PL wages.
I’m not advocating spending 400k a week or anything like that, as like some I don’t think that level of spending can last, but no matter what spending will never go back to how it used to be. And if Levy and ENIC are refusing to spend big in the belief that there is going to be a football bust and we will go back to 100k a week being top top dollar, they will be waiting a long long time. And at the moment time is something we don’t seem to have.
Its always a shame to lose a talented player but no player is bigger than the club. Being WC year, you would've thought he would just get on with it .

You'd figure a smart player would focus on getting into the best for possible for the rest of the season, earn a WC spot, do as well as possible at the wc and then try and negotiate a new deal.
I'd rather Toby stays than is sold as when he is fit he is our best defender. If he does leave then it has to be to a club outside of the PL.

We’re making nice memories this season in Europe but if 5th is the end outcome then have we had a good season? Win the FA Cup and no doubt we’ve had a great season.
We’ll only know if our summer business was sufficient in May. If we end up back in the Europa League then no it wasn’t as others improved their squads better than we did.
If Utd beat Chelsea this weekend then I think we’ll get top 4 but it will be tight. Which to bring it back to the topic we’ll need Alderweireld to achieve, the belief we managed well without him is a little overstated. We have won 9/17 league games since his injury v Madrid which will be lower average points than the likely total required to hit top 4. We can’t have a Walker repeat where he’s benched.
