Ex-Spurs Player Toby Alderweireld

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I can see the reasoning behind losing him next summer as Sanchez will be improved by then, but to say Sanchez has been great in the big matches seems a bit much. He wasn’t that good against Juve for example. Not wonderful at the end of the NLD either.

And can we honestly not see a scenario if we sell Toby this summer, Jan picks up an injury at the World Cup and we have to play half a dozen away games at the start of the season with a back four of Davies Dier Sanchez and Trippier, with KWP, Foyth and Aurier on the bench. I feel ill at the thought.

I’ve no idea if we are trying to get him to sign, or if he is askin for a new deal. I’ve no idea what he’s on or what he wants. All I know is neither him or he club have said they are even in negotiations. Everything is second hand.

But he’s a top quality player who we do miss. We can get results without him, yes, but I’m always more confident when he’s in the team.

What I mean by that is think that despite all the progress we have made we are at the point where if we don’t spend whats in line with the competition we will be left behind. The likes of United and City are scared of us and as a result will try and pick us clean of assets, you just have to look at what’s happened to Dortmund to see what can happen to a club that couldn’t compete financially despite domestic success.

And I know the clubs on a upward financial climb. And this is the best us spurs fans have had it in a long time and I’m grateful for this, but I think we might have to possibly dip into the pockets of our Billionaire owner, to get the likes of Toby, Vert, Kane, Ali and Eriksen onto contracts more in line with today’s market now then in 3 years or so when the benefits of the stadium and the new deals we can sign come into full effect.
Joe Lewis really has nowt to do with Spurs in terms of dipping into his pockets. We are strictly a business venture for him.

Sanchez has been consistently good in the CL and was imperious v. United. He kept a clean sheet against Woolwich and was good against a brilliant Liverpool attack. Doing him a disservice I think. At 21 in a brand new league, he's been an absolute revelation.

It's all you have isn't it, you silly little adolescent?
An obsession with insults based around my declining mental health and whatever medication you believe me to be taking. So in effect, without any form of evidence to support your insults, you continue to trot out the same tired and impotent attempts at put downs or ridicule.
I however have absolutely no need to insult or ridicule you - like everyone else on here, we simply wait for your next post and point out the massive flaws in it.
You are quite the most pathetic poster I have had the miserable privilege of witnessing on a public forum, which given that it was once infested with Gibbs, is some achievement.
Yet again I have voted you for censure and a red card for your pathetic attempts at trolling and bizarre sexist attempts at insulting posters.
You're a joke, do us all a favour and grow up, or fuck off.

Starting up again are we Captain *Mainwaring: This is the Mick Cooper Mick Cooper we all know the obnoxious, self righteous toad who just has not learned to respect any poster on here. Unreal.

And as a business man he should surely be able to see that if it comes to selling us we are a hell of a lot more valuable with all those players on long term contracts and not making attempts to leave the club.

Saying all this we have no idea what’s happening at the club, this is speculation and it could be that they are all on improved long term deals by the end of the season.

When it comes to selling a club, it's infrastructure that pays the bills. The new training ground and stadium are his investments in that regard. Over a billions worth.

We drew twice in November and December. We lost to City, Woolwich and Leicester.

We coped ok?

Being unbeaten in 15, unbeaten in 2018, topping a group with Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, beating Woolwich, United, Real, Dortmund is coping ok?

Take some pleasure in this club will you.

Well what can I say.

I've been following Spurs from abroad for 4-5 years now and my ability to watch the games has differed at times, but with my current satellite TV deal have been watching spurs non stop for about a year now.

At times this season we have not played well, have still found a way to win in some of those games. Which in a way is a bit encouraging.

I've been a member of an Australian rules forum, which has a sub forum dedicated to football.

However I've decided to join here today given that sub forum is full of fans from the big clubs but not so many are Spurs fans.

As for today I'm so glad I got up at 4:30am to watch this morning, even more glad that I recorded the game as well.

Probably started when we won in the San Siro, couple that with some old footage of the 61 side and Glenn Hoddle and you can see why he is pissed off we only drew with measly Juventus

No perspective, no concept of the journey

And both of those things are even more valuable with those players playing and training in them.

And again not criticising Levy and Lewis they have taken spurs to heights I didn’t think we would get to in a short space of time. But I just want them wasting all the hard work by refusing to invest more, that would start a domino effect of players and staff leaving.

And this shit.

The sound of so many crashing back to earth. Predicting a win away at Juve.

We’ll be lucky to even score tonight

Dig the new breed.

Sanchez is still very green. Probably even greener then Bailly was for United last season. Younger too.

Very similar defenders too. It's easy to forget how inexperienced Sanchez is.

Sorry mate but the line "billionaire owner and dip into his own pockets" is utter nonsense. With the exception of PSG and City and Chelsea about 10yrs ago (the Russian is still owed £1b!!) no owner does this. It's not what happens in any form of business be that football or otherwise.

We ARE being left behind by City & Utd, that is the fact and that will continue to remain as the fact (they are also pulling away from Liverpool, Chelsea and Woolwich), their revenue will continue to rise, as ours will also do, but they will continue to pull away despite our improved revenue growth. I'm not having a pop here but your expectations are way, way off kilter. We will close the financial gap to the other clubs but not City or Utd they will continue to pull away, the gap will get bigger not smaller.

But despite this we have beaten City on the pitch the past few seasons and we are beating Utd on the pict this season as well as in recent years. The formulae we apply will not go away, it will be reapplied because it's working, it's evenied by all bar a few clubs in World football, so much so that even Real Madrid envy what we are doing and rumours are they want Poch so that they might apply the same philosophy seeing that they have invested massively in youth in the past few years.

So what does all this boil down to? We will have closed the financial gap to all our rivals in the PL with the exception of City and Utd. and I think PSG. We will have closed the financial gap to all other clubs in world football, specifically Juve (we will overtake them), Barca, Real Madrid, Bayern. Meaning that the capacity for all these other clubs to buy our players is significantly reduced. So just how many players will City buy from us all at world record fees? The biggest threat we have as I see it is Utd., why? Because they are clearly still and very underwhelming side, their entire defence is pony, in fact look across the entire squad it reeks of average.

The pool of clubs who can afford our players is getting smaller and smaller. Finally, our model is the envied one but no-one talks about this. The narrative that feeds us all is we must pay more to stop all our players leaving. No-one has even bothered to ask the question how have Tottenham been able to hold onto their players? This should be asked because we have only lost one player, meanwhile Liverpool and Woolwich continually lose their best players every single year, add Barca to that list too. The constant narrative is driving the fear of our fans, yet there is zero evidence to support this fear, in fact we continue to improve, we continue to buy well and develop and keep the squad together. Take a step back and reevaluate Tottenham and where we are in the competitive landscape, we have nothing to fear, we are the club that is feared.

He’s been very good overall, especially for his age. Again, I didn’t say anything different.

I contend he wasn’t great against Juventus, although did post in his thread that I wouldn’t expect him to be flawless against such a fine forward line. Yes, he did keep a clean sheet against that lot, but he made a couple of errors and he’s got that in him. He’ll iron these out as he gets used to the league, country and team mates. He’ll be a fantastic replacement for Toby in the future, I’m sure, I’m just not convinced he’s an upgrade on Toby in a few months time.

We could go in to the new season with Toby, Jan, Sanchez and Foyth.
Or we could end up with Jan, Sanchez, Foyth and Dier.

Option one is clearly better.

Exactly. Very inexperienced and still settling in. How good he has been considering this is extraordinary, but also highlights how mad it is to expect him to match the level of one of the best centre halves in world football.

I don’t begrudge people supporting us, however the sheer entitlement of fans who started supporting Spurs in the last 5-6 years. They cannot appreciate what we have had to endure during the first 15 years of PL era of football. It has been through lots of years of wrong turns and some luck that we’ve finally got to where we are today. I’m proud that Levy lucked out getting Pochettino and what Pochettino has done to transform our club from top 4 potential to regularly competing for top 4.
