This age old argument between myself and my Dad has come up again , he's 100 % Defoe I'm 100% Keane, we both loved both players. Help me out who was better for Spurs?.

Impossible question. I think Keane was a glimmer of hope during some of our dark days so i remember him fondly for that but the Liverpool thing left a nasty taste while Defoe seemed to really enjoy being a Spurs player. On the fence (for now).

Were you watching the 'PL 100 Goals Club' thing on Sky per chance??
They've had Keane, Kane and Defoe on there recently!

It's a good exercise in appreciating just what a TEAM we have now... (and being careful what you wish for!)

for goals and contributions in big games Keane, for commitment and loyalty Defoe. Keane with Berba at times was sublime and scored some unbelievable goals. When times were dark they were at times the shining lights...

Why do you consider Keane any less loyal than JD?

...Whenever his position came under threat JD was never too far away from the papers and/or the exit door.

Was never particularly impressed at the amount of time he'd spend moaning at his colleagues when on the flipside he fell offside a criminal amount of times for a top pro.

I took to RK far more than i did JD... Was gutted when he left.

Keane, without question. Loved his little dinks and chips. Always had that moment of magic in him.

Defoe has become more composed in latter years but for Spurs I too often remember him being a jigsaw and going to pieces in the box. Clean through - you were just waiting for him to blast it straight at the keeper

Keane was the better player at his peak. Left in infuriating circumstances, came back and gone shit.
Defoe always had the potential but greediness in front of goal and inability to really grasp the concept of offside prevented him from really being a top striker. But overall he was more consistent for us over a longer period.

Keane all day long. While I loved JD as a person, on the pitch I always felt he was highly overrated by our fan base. Granted he did go through purple patches of scoring, but there was always stages of a season where he couldn't finish his dinner and cost us valuable points.
The loyalty thing is also a bit of a myth, as whenever we signed someone to compete with him he was always straight to the media with the "if I don't get games I'm off" line, and his return to us from Pompey was as much about his relationship with 'Arry as it was with the club.
As I said he's clearly a great person, put in terms of on field performances Keane was a class above.

Keane for me. Unbelievably skilled player! There was a goal he scored in I think nov 06 in a 1-1 draw at Villa Park that was so skilful, he rolled his foot over the ball to control it and slow it down while moving it to his other side to finish bottom corner. Unreal goal! Can’t find it anywhere! It was way better than that Blackburn one

Possibly a controversial thing to say on here but I've always felt Defoe is overrated , good player good goal scorer but never quite got to that next level , still liked him a lot tho and thought he was gonna be going on to greatness when we first signed him and seriously push Michael Owen for England just never quite happened.

When Keane Defoe and Berbatov all left in a similar time frame only one was worth bringing back. And it was the only one who didn't come back.

In patches Keane and Defoe were both brilliant but neither was ever good enough consistently for me.

I abstain from the vote

Its not the leaving, its the crawling back after being shit at Liverpool and expecting everything to be the same.
The love for him had gone, but there was no humbleness

In hindsight it was a mistake for him to leave and a mistake to comeback but to be fair we were a mess the summer he left and Liverpool were a much bigger club than us at that time , I'm sure he didn't intend to be shit when he returned and why wouldn't he want to return ? Just one of those things that never worked out.
