No mate, it's realistic. Just imagine in your mind for a second, what would get people more hyped up and excited to watch in the quarter-final of the world cup, England v Sweden or England v Germany? Just imagine the last few seconds before the referee blows the whistle to kick-off and how different your heart rate would be. I know which one I'd rather watch.
I'm just trying to explain why I'm not celebrating the Germans going out. I think the tournament misses out on some potentially great moments when the big stars aren't there in the later stages. Sure, it could have been boring anyway, but the chances for drama and entertainment are higher with the bigger teams clashing. You're getting way too deep here
You really are overthinking this one. The finals of recent years between "big teams" have been pretty boring.
Why can't we have a memorable 'blockbuster' match against a columbia or a sweden, these are knockout games in a World Cup, there's going to be drama , just against germany or a brazil it's probably less likely we would come out with a win in said memorable game. I'm going to have fonder memories of knockout world cup games we have won than one's we have lost.Sure, history books and all that, but what do you get out of it? The knowledge that long after you are dead and tangible memories of this tournament have completely faded from most people's minds, England can still boast about lifting the trophy in 2018 and no one will remember the context? Is that really what you want to get out of your personal experience of watching football? Personally, I can't say I do. I don't care about the history books, the world might be destroyed in a few years time and nobody living in that post apocalypse wasteland would give a damn about some trophy in a sport that doesn't exist anymore! What matters to me is right here and now, and I want to see the big countries going up against each other in epic blockbuster matches for my entertainment, it's really that simple.

Anything is possible, certainly Colombia are usually great to watch and have fantastic players, but it just comes down to that 'Hollywood' factor of the big names for me. Even aging, fading stars are still stars, and beating them is still bigger and lives longer in the memory. Ok think of it like this: wouldn't it have been endlessly more fun from an English perspective to watch England destroy Germany 5-1 in the QFs than to watch them go out against Korea in the group stages? Why can't we have a memorable 'blockbuster' match against a columbia or a sweden, these are knockout games in a World Cup, there's going to be drama , just against germany or a brazil it's probably less likely we would come out with a win in said memorable game. The last time England won, the ball didn’t cross the line, the Russian linesman and all that. Has it tarnished the memory? Not in the slightest.Sure, history books and all that, but what do you get out of it? I already explained multiple times, I want to watch big encounters. And I know that Germany, Brazil, Argentina, France, England, etc. coming up against each other would be huge. I'm mainly using England as an example cause I know most people here have an interest in their progress.Wait a minute. You don't even care about England, why do you give a shit about an 'easier' route to the final?
;-)
That's different, chaotic shit happens in football all the time, but who did England play on the way to the trophy last time? The last time England won, the ball didn’t cross the line, the Russian linesman and all that. Has it tarnished the memory? Not in the slightest.
You can only beat what’s in front of you if the so called big countries don’t turn up that’s not England’s fault.
