Transfers January 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If 7-10 are to go who and how the fuck do we replace what level of player are we to assume will come in, we couldn't shift in the summer so how do we get rid of all that now.

Well Vorm, Llorente & Dembele are out of contract so there's 3 definitely off, Alderweireld has a £25m release clause so there's your fourth, Eriksen could play for any team in the world so if he wants out there's 5 without flinching.

Janssen picked up an injury so couldn't secure a transfer and will only have one year left on his deal so I'd be amazed if a team doesn't go for him. Nkoudou lord knows what's going on with him but surely if he has any sense and pride as well as ourselves he'll be off this window or next. There's your 7, all we need to do is worry about moving Janssen & Llorente on and the others kind of look after themselves without considering how crocked Wanyama is and how much patience Poch has with Rose

Yeah but who comes in it won't be ready made quality but instead a younger cheaper option that will take a while to develop leaving us short of quality in those areas again.

Agreed but who are we really losing when it comes to first team quality with 4-5 of those players. Janssen, Llorente, Nkoudou & Vorm offer nothing these days and Dembele has been declining for a little while now. 6 players from our current stack who I think won't be here much longer who don't add too much so it's a great moment for Poch to add a genuinely different option and look to our 2nd string. If only we could convince Toby & Christian all is good here for their futures

Well there is another potential issue with those two and what of our wonderful manager the best we have had in 30 year's, none of them I would blame if they wanted to leave to win big stuff.

I know it's probably dreamland to think that Chelsea would ever deal with us - but if Wolves get a permanent deal for Tammy Abraham I will be a little bit aggrieved. I think he could be a really really good forward with the right coaching.

They are 6 points clear in the Bundesliga and their current front line cost £30,000,000 - they've got a great transfer policy over there.

Strongly disagreed.
Most of their (sell-side / contract situation monitoring) transfer dealings are ran by trained monkeys.
They have a long history of loosing valuable players for free or for low prices. I can admit that their scouting has been good in recent past. But what comes after signing players is much, much worse.

Lewandowski - left free for Bayern
Hummels - relatively low release clause triggered by Bayern
Gotze - relatively low release clause triggered by Bayern
Kagawa - sold for cut-price deal due to having one year left
Gündogan - sold for cut-price deal due to having one year left
Barrios - top scorer sold cheaply to China (low release clause triggered)
Sahin - their player of the season sold to Madrid for 10 mil due to contract lenght issues

I mean during just summer of 2016 they lost THREE of their star players in Hummels, Gündogan and Miki. All of who had 12 months contract left and could have been sold for significantly more if contract situation would have been better.

I would not call it "good transfer dealing" if we were to sell Eriksen in the summer for 75 mil, due to failure of getting his signature for contract extentison. While his potential price would be closer to 150 mil if he would be tied down to long contract. Would you call that "great transfer policy" ?

If we spent the Eriksen money on 2 or 3 players which saw us strengthen our squad and we sat 6 points clear in January. Yes.

But that has not been mostly historically the case for Dortmund.

Better parallel would be that we would sell Eriksen for 75 and buy in 3 15 mil players, and drop 2 places in the table (well, it is bit different in Bundesliga - given their competitiveness then they cannot drop deeper than 4th really). Just to get one of the 3 new faces accustomed to the team and league to lose him again and start all over.

I personally appreciate our current status quo a lot more - buy players. Keep your most talented players on long contracts. Do not sell your biggest stars. And even when in 3 times in past 10 years (Modric, Bale, Walker) you lose a player, you will get top buck for that.

During the same period, they have lost at least 7 key players for less than a market price (listed above). Plus quite a few (Dembele, Pulisic, Aubameyang) on top of that on market price.

Regarding Eriksen, i would think his cryptic remarks translate as 'i'm keeping my options open to see who comes in for me and if it isn't my preferred club i will stay at Tottenham'.

My gut instinct is ominous. I don't even want to type it out.

I would find it very difficult to believe that Poch, Levy and their scouting staff are not already looking for a replacement.
I would go all in on Eriksen going to Barca, and for not as much as we all think given the length of his contract that remains.
Big blow i know, but he's not signed a new contract for a reason, and i'd be extremely surprised if a deal isn't being worked on already.

The only question about Eirksen going to Barcelona is if they want him, I think they'd be mad not too so he's gone. Never mind, he's brilliant but not as good as Bale, and we've gone from strength to strength since monkey boy left

I'd like to think that moving Janssen, Nkoudou, Vorm & Llorente on will give the manager an opportunity to get a better quality player in ster the squad and put pressure on the first XI.
Those 4 simply have to go - we need to free up space, Poch has said so himself just few days ago.

Pochettino said: “It doesn’t just depend on us to regenerate the squad. In case we don’t sell players, it’s impossible to bring players in and to find the capacity to bring players in.”

Llorente 5 Mil, Janssen 9 mil , Nkoudou 10 mil, Wanyama 17 mil and Dembele 17 mil. We could easily recoup this sort of money giving us roughly 65/70 mil to play with. Would go all out for a top central midfielder ( Kessier or Diawara ) and just shove 45 mil for one of those and With the 25 mil or so left, go and buy a decent back up striker to Kane. Put a 25 mil bid in for a top quality young striker like Arp or Ajax striker Dolberg.
