Then buy better.

None of our U23 squad made the U23 European finals taking place at the minute. Not one. It's safe to say that the solution isn't going to come from that department

Buy better and also buy smarter. I am concerned that Pochettino seems insistent that we need to pick our oranges from near the top of the tree instead of rolling the dice on ones yet to get their big moves. He definitely deserves the occasional big buy but if he wants Lo Celso for example then why did we apparently not show an interest in his raw skills a year ago for £25m instead of his rumoured £70m fee now?

Poch deserves some coin but equally as a club we deserve a manager willing to make judgement calls on bargain style players like we used to get with him. I love the move for Clarke if it comes off like I did the moves for Dele, Foyth etc I think they are hugely important not only for our club but for Pochettino to justify bigger fees when he expects and demands them through the earning of them. Got to mix big signings with smart signings and incomigs purely seen as hot prospects. It's all about the blend especially in times where football inflation is doolally

Only seen his show-reel but he is reminiscent of Bale in the Championship overpowering and/or outspeeding his opponents.
Left footer plays a lot on the right from the clips I have seen.

Quite like the look of him, a crossing, shooting specialist, not sure he would be first XI but it’s a different option and would be quite useful against teams that park the bus.

Yeah coz that's what I said isn't it??

We will never know whether we would have won anything had we signed a bunch of new players.
I trust Poch and his philosophy.
I just never understand what is implied when you or anyone brings up players we have spent money on that haven't set the world alight. This happens, some signings work out, some don't, that doesn't mean you just give up on spending money.

Debatable.
To start with, none of the 7 players were known to anyone before they came to Spurs without going to individual details, they were purchased in the hope they will come good in the future, few did and few didn't. Spurs in not like city, chelsea, manu or liverpool who buy ready made players.
With last season forms, would rather have Sissoko and Lucas and instead of Dier and Dele.

Cobblers.

Lucas, Aurier, Llorente, Lamela, Sissoko weren't unknown.

Sanchez was already an international and allegedly on the likes of Barca's radar....

Debatable yes but isn't that football? It's all open to opinions but prior to last season and his injury spells Dier started 30+ games each season he has been with us, the most successful seasons points wise we have experienced since the 60s.

I'm also pretty sure that up until the last 2-3 weeks of the season most people would have opted for Son ahead of Lucas. I like Lucas I think he's a great signing but looking back on the majority of starts had, Son is probably still preferred to him even if Lucas gave us all one of our most memorable nights as a Tottenham fan.

The point I was making with the £75m spent collectively on a team consisting of Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Winks, Eriksen, Dele, Son & Kane is it is possible to buy class without throwing large chunks of money at solutions. Lo Celso went to Celta Vigo and Ndombele signs for Lyon for c£7m last year. £32m the both of them cost their current clubs last season and these days they are being touted at £140m for the pair. We need to spend yes but we need to utilise our scouting systems far better than we are at present.

If I was Levy I'd be asking why my manager wants me to spend £120m-£140m on two players that were purchased for £32m over the last 12 months and if all of us were in his position I'm sure each and every one of us would be asking the exact same thing.

No-one mentioned injury prone.

Of the last 3 years....

1.5 yr injured/unable to play (Everton)
1 a ghost (Chavs)
0.5 decent (Chavs)

In that order....

He's o n over 100kpw.

Again what's your point?
My point is that he was a realistic target last summer and we missed out. Kane and Lloris are on £200k a week (I believe). Barkley is no longer 'injured'

My point is that we are a couple of weeks away from pre-season and 45 days away from the window closing - with still nothing concrete (we went through exactly this same roller coaster 12 months ago when we would 'do our business early')

My point is that we desperately need numbers in midfield just to stand still. We need to replace Eriksen and Alderweireld unless they sign on the dotted line. Llorente needs replacing.

My point is that de Ligt may be going to Juve for £75m. (this sum should easily be within our spending power)

My point is that as supporters we need to be given some hope.

He'd only been at Chavs 6 months, barely played and looked shit.

Beyond that you're just rambling tbh.

You don't spend 10s of millions just to give the fans a buzz

For £120m-£140m, Poch will buy 2 players who will start the first game of the season come August, just like Lievrpool buying VDC and their keeper last season, City buying the portugese midfielder.... etc. Players who will make impact on the starting XI from day 1. IE: team strengthened not only the bench.

Poch is limited with the budget given by Levy.

We will never know what Poch at Spurs can achieve if he is given transfer spending power similar to Klop or Pep.

That's because we haven't got that degree of spending power, Einstein.

If it was your money would you be asking why these players weren't of interest when they were priced at £25m and £7m barely 12 months ago however?

£25m Aurier
£25m Lucas
£30m Sissoko
£20m Janssen
£10m Llorente
£10m Nkoudou
£40m Sanchez
£160m in total for a group that hasn't penetrated our strongest XI when fully fit.

c£75m gave us a team of Lloris, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Winks, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane, all of which we are still able to field present day who many would argue when fully fit is close to our strongest XI.
NONE of that is spending though because:
We aren’t in debt
We didnt spend last summer

Those players DO NOT exist

Just another 150 pages to go until we get Jack Clarke across the line.

When he was at Everton, wasn't he a target then? Anyway, he's been not bad since?

Hardly ramblings, just setting out my wishes. We all should have them.

I rate managers that get their teams doing something. Newcastle have a decent squad, but are atrocious to watch.

I’ve never like Benitez football teams to be honest. He might have credibility but I don’t know why people assume they can’t get better than him.
Newcastle with that chairman and budget can’t get better than Benitez imo. Always liked the guy
