Transfers Summer 2019 transfer thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

We didn't sign anyone because there was nobody available who would have improved what we had - see Liverpool summer 2019 for clarification ... of course when they do it the press (and some forum posters) think it's good business, when we did it Levy was a tight cunt .... go figure. When you fall for the media spin and don't actually listen to what our own club says ... well that's up to you, it is your opinion after all.

For months the informed sources have been telling us exactly how this window would go ... guess what exactly what they said is exactly what has happened, even the target players were well known weeks ago ... Dybala was just a bonus we couldn't quite close, but not for lack of trying.

Hindsight is of course easy, but with zero spent in 2018 leaving a strong established squad to get top four and the bonus of a CL final, with the stadium getting done, and now with our biggest window in a decade hopefully sending us to another level ... I'm pretty sure Levy got it right.

Surely you don’t believe that there were no players who could have strengthened our squad summer 2018?
Grealish being the obvious target last summer.

We didn’t sign anyone due to money. The new stadium was an issue. We all know that. We have the tickets to Wembley to prove it.

Not a managerial decision that’s for sure. Maybe a chairman decision but not the coaching staff.

Did levy get it right or get lucky? Our league form would suggest lucky.

The fact we ended up playing Janssen and you are acting like he couldn’t be bettered in world football is mind boggling.

Talk every day maybe, but for hours on an evening I doubt.
Other teams have signed players who were on holiday due to returning later after summer tournaments. What makes us not as important as those clubs..
Also I am led to believe sess is still injured but we have somehow signed him, we all know this is just how levy works. It happens all the time, so he can get what he wants from a deal and always feel like he won, and not get a deal done that best suits the team and manager.....or is he the head coach again now lmao

You said about them getting a preseason with us.... It wasnt possible regardless of all the shite you subsequently wrote.

Poor old GLC has to hit the ground running, no 7 months to adapt has Poch reckons, if he doesn't perform he's could be out the door.

Yeah. Because as I said, the top PL full backs are extremely average players and some are downright shit.

You’re disagreeing but keep saying that City’s aren’t good enough and that’s why they keep upgrading. Makes no sense.

Liverpool have got the best full backs, and they're extremely good. Unfortunately for them they don't have decent cover (and no, Milner is not a full back).

City would have the second best options on full back position, amongst Leicester and maybe Woolwich and Everton after latest additions. I'm not saying there's anything shit about Citys full backs, just that they are spending on the position to try and get the best. Full backs aint a myth, as you claimed, and Pep seems to think it's important.

Not gonna lie I still feel a bit down by yesterday and the window in general. It's the same feeling I had after the CL final. Yes absolutely brilliant getting to the final, the way we did it, but we lost in the end, we didn't collect the prize. A win would have taken us into the elite, shut up all those who mock us, made us really special and been the perfect reward for all of Poch's work

Same with this window. We signed Ndombele and Lo Celso, Sess and Clarke, superb bit of business eventually, but someone like Dybala would have been the CL trophy, it would have been a big fuck you to all the doubters, the piss takers, Tottenham Hotspur would have joined the big boys for once. Alas the bridesmaid once again

8/10 for the window

COYS
For someone who was disappointed with the window, you sure gave a high mark. 8/10 is pretty damn good.

How many more players are going to have that responsibility?
Come on sammyspurs sammyspurs its getting boring.
We get it that you don't like Eriksen and Dele but apart from both having poor seasons last year they have been outstanding players for us. Much more worth your time and effort getting behind them than knocking them down.
And before you pull out the 'why didn't we get behind Trippier' card. I did and would treat him in a similar way. One season does not make a bad player.

Name those available players ... both Poch and Steve have said we couldn't get our targets last summer (Pulisic, Sessegnon, Grealish) ... Poch last August said:
Of course, maybe in the mind of everyone they will say ‘oh Tottenham did not sign anyone’ but to sign for the sake of signing? It is better to keep your best players.
the focus was on keeping what we had, something we previously have failed to manage ...

As you've just seen we could and did get our targets this summer ... so why would they lie about last year?

As for money ... we had loads then and we still have loads now ... to say we have no money is the biggest red-herring in the book.

Transfer decisions are made by our transfer committee Levy, Poch, Hitchen and McDermott. They select the players to go after, even after that's agreed Poch still has the final say before any deal is concluded ... he rejected Ceballos this summer.

Lucky four years in a row? well maybe but maybe it's simply down to good management.
