Why Tottenham missed out on Paulo Dybala

So, it seems all but confirmed that we had more or less signed Dybala, but that it was ruined by image rights.

What that tells me is that,

1) The club realised we needed some serious strengthening to try and reach the next level, and that Levy were prepared to throw some serious money after players this window (kudos, Levy),

2) Spurs can attract some serious talent now, and

3) Dybala is a fucking idiot and modern football sure is broken

Surely you don’t believe that there were no players who could have strengthened our squad summer 2018?
Grealish being the obvious target last summer.

We didn’t sign anyone due to money. The new stadium was an issue. We all know that. We have the tickets to Wembley to prove it.

Not a managerial decision that’s for sure. Maybe a chairman decision but not the coaching staff.

Did levy get it right or get lucky? Our league form would suggest lucky.

The fact we ended up playing Janssen and you are acting like he couldn’t be bettered in world football is mind boggling.
Agreed. You can't take someone seriously if they say there was nobody available that would improve our squad last summer.

I disagree. Think it's ridiculous to suggest we couldn't have improved on our squad last summer. Also if it had been the same this summer you would have been happy with us going another window with no signings. & what if it was the same next summer.
Let's not go around in circles though. We have totally opposite views on this. You don't value my opinion. I don't value you yours as I think you would change it to match the club's stance.
Also your tone is very moody, "when you fall for the media spin" etc. You have that I'm a better fan than you so there, attitude.
Anyway, bring on villa!
Anyone who didn't think we could/should have re-inforced the squad in Summer 2018 is mad/deluded.

It was a missed opportunity that has partly been addressed by the addition of Ndombele, Clarke (for next season), Ntete, Lo Celso, Sessegnon. Plus, the deadwood has been cut away (although Nkoudou may still be with us - we live in hope).

All the big clubs should bring in 2/3 new faces each summer window to keep the existing squad on their toes and cater for loss of form, suspensions, contract negotiations, and a Cup run.

Although this is water under the bridge, Summer 2018 was a huge missed opportunity. For those that claim there was no-one around last summer, anyone heard (other than the die hard Euro-experts) of Lo Celso six weeks ago? There were players last summer, it's just we chose not to pursue them.

Anyway, 30 hours to go!

Come on lads.

Come on sammyspurs sammyspurs its getting boring.
We get it that you don't like Eriksen and Dele but apart from both having poor seasons last year they have been outstanding players for us. Much more worth your time and effort getting behind them than knocking them down.
And before you pull out the 'why didn't we get behind Trippier' card. I did and would treat him in a similar way. One season does not make a bad player.

Is it boring when people say Eriksen and Dele should never be dropped?
Or only when you read the stuff you don’t like?

The more people keep lying about my stance, the more I will correct them.

I’ve never said either are bad players. I’ve said they are world class on their day but for both that was consistently 2-3 years ago now.

I think Dele lacks application and maturity and Eriksen lacks commitment.
Is there any of that you massively disagree with?
Is that why you are only arguing against me “saying they are shit and hating them”.

People need to grow up to be honest....they don’t like their flip flop opinions being brought back up.

Same people said Eriksen and Dele haven’t been poor, Eriksen is the best midfielder in Europe and his stats prove it, Dele is one of the best young AMs around and neither should ever be dropped.
Then they claim they suffered from fatigue and injuries (even though they wasn’t poor apparently)

“All we need is a CM and a RB”
Then spend the entire last three weeks wanking over Dybala, Lo celso and Bruno Fernandes.
Ahhhhhhhhh so now Dele and Eriksen need a rest? I thought that meant you was a cunt?

“But but but we didn’t have the staff”
No? Funny because I saw Moura tearing the shit out of it and no one cared that he was dropped or subbed.. people rate their favorites and new signings.

Then claim they are “backing the players” while stabbing Lamela and Dier and Skipp in the back.

You’re not a massive fan because you love Dele, Kane and Eriksen but think everyone else is disposable. Same people said the same shit two years ago when I wanted Dele dropped for Son.

People tend to catch up with my views after about half a year, jump on the bandwagon and then start claiming they never said this and that.

When Poch finally says Eriksen is not part of our plans......you will all claim you agree with his decision.
Oh well.

Well after not spending for 2 windows and earning more than 100 million in the CL, I would have hoped that there was serious money to spend. i don't think the realisation that we need strengthening makes any difference, we could have easily lost out on RS and GLC.

I doubt too many people will agree with me, but if Rose and Eriksen stay I genuinely believe we are title contenders this season, and have a genuine chance at winning a trophy. If we lose Eriksen then I still believe we come 3rd, but I would like him to stay as we will only be able to get around £40m for him, that £40m could be the difference between us winning a trophy and winning nothing. Losing Trippier doesn’t bother me, I feel Aurier had a better season when he played, I don’t particularly rate KWP but Foyth impressed me against Man City last season.

I'm hoping we can (a) convince Eriksen to stay until January and give it his all, when we will sell him for an agreeable fee to a top club in Europe, Spain if possible and (b) we use the interim period to tie up the Dybala deal (if he's a player that Pochettino has wood for), sorting out this image rights bollocks to the satisfaction of all, sending round a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' Hebrews, who'll go to work on the homes there with a pair of pliers and a blow torch if needs be

Epic, just epic :dembelelol:
The megalomaniac strikes again.

What views are those? That Poch isn’t a good manager, for example? I never really caught up with that, that was always all you..

Agreed. You can't take someone seriously if they say there was nobody available that would improve our squad last summer.

Yeah I’m always aware I’m on here for opinions, and some (or a lot) will differ from mine.

We lost a lot of games and finished 4th - just.

We could (and should) have been stronger in terms of squad depth.

If we chose to do that again I would be very concerned. This window has shown intent.

I agree with this, but of the players we could have signed would they have been of the quality of Ndombele, Lo Celso ?
Sess would of cost us much more (maybe double) as Fulham were in the PL.

We have spent on genuine quality this window and I don't think we would have got players of that calibre last season. Of course we might have but we'll never know.

Was the decision not to sign any one last season a good one ? IMO Yes but only just, we got Top 4 just and reached the CL final which increased our profile in Europe making our club more attractive to the likes of Ndombele, Lo Celso, etc. Even Dybala, if reports are to be believed, wanted to come here.

Could we have won the CL if we had signed players last season, maybe. There is no doubt our huge amount of injuries impacted the last part of the season and our fit players were running on empty.

Last season is been and done, Let's look forward to the new one.

TLDR
I believe if we hadn't the injuries we had we would of won the CL but I doubt we could of got players of the quality of Ndombele etc.

That Juve were apparently willing to let Dybala go was probably a big boost as well.

We were willing to bring in big players and spend money, and had one basically placed in our lap so why not try?

He wants Madrid or Barca, I don't think he will want to go anywhere else, if they don't come for him in January then he will walk away on a free.

Sounds a reasonable solution

Last year we didn't sign a single player. So anything had to be an improvement on that didn't it.
Doesn't mean I'm dancing in the streets with joy and proclaiming we won the transfer window this time around like many on here.
One big signing to replace Dembele, one loan signing, and a couple of young prospects for the future.
Last night people were pulling themselves off over Dybala, Fernandes, Coutinho and more.
Like I said. Middling window if we keep the 3 key players I mentioned earlier.
The glass is always half full we have to think this way as Spurs fans:
Your bullshit only drags people down, the glass is empty as far as you are concerned. Get with the program, I thought you were better that this!
