The ref can change a yellow card to a red, as long as play hasn't re-started, but I don't see how it is justified, as it was the way he fell that caused the injury.

Watch it again, it is the landing rather than the tackle causing the injury.

Could be a red from the off, but was a yellow. Clear refereeing mistake.
