So after today's game we now have a better idea of how we will set up under the new gaffer. Ignoring new arrivals in Jan, who do you think will establish themselves as his first XI?

For me:
Gazza
Aurier--Toby--Jan--Davies
Dier---Ndombele
Lucas-----Dele----Son
Kane
Defensively I think Jose will persist with Aurier as we are not blessed with many options there and maybe he can get a tune out of him.
He loves Toby but his comments about Jan also suggest he's highly rated and I think he will go for the experienced duo
I thought Davies played well today and he is way more suited than Rose to this hybrid LB/CB role he was asked to play today.

Dier wasn't great but I think Mourinho will insist on having a proper defensive mind in there and as Wanyama doesnt have knees it has to be Dier - hopefully he can play into some form.

Ndombele can do everything Winks can do but better so I think it's clear he will takeover when he's back.

It looks like we could have something quite special with that front 4 and I think they will continue to be starters going forward.

That leaves Lamela, Gio and Sess for rotation behind Kane and that's quite healthy. Gio has real quality and will be ready to step in if any of that attacking 3 start to drop form.

I think Eriksen's cameo today was his last chance and Jose will have seen enough. The guy has nothing left to give in a Spurs shirt.

If Jan doesn't sign a new contract, I think he's going to stick with Sanchez.

Also I'm not sure if you're suggesting Gazza would still play if Lloris is fit (which I think he wouldn't).

That front 4 is set in stone already in my opinion.

If Moura has a couple of bad games, or if Dele pucks up an injury, then Lo Celso will get a chance and I think he would hold his place ahead of Moura. He may even manage that with just one or two smaller opportunities because he looks the real deal to me,

It's really hard to say, depends on what Jose thinks will get us the most success.

Based on that performance today I can see him sticking with that starting 11 but replacing Winks with ndombele and rotating Lo Celso with him.

I think Dier will have to get back to his best to keep his place as well.

Even Aurier played well, had a shockingly good game but still thihk we will buy a RB because he is error prone.

Pretty much that, though I wouldn’t rule out Lloris getting his place back, Walker-Peters or Foyth taking the RB position, and possibly Lo Celso or Lamela competing with Moura. Possibly Sessegnon instead of Davies.

I actually rate Aurier, but just see him as too hot-headed. Lloris would probably be a good fit for a tactical approach that doesn’t rely on a keeper being able to pass a ball. I love Moura and would be happy for him to be a regular starter, but he’s the most likely to lose out against Dele and Son.

Sessegnon could be the one that really misses out. I really rate him and think he was a massive signing, but he fits the wing-back formation more than a flat back four. Maybe with Foyth at RB and Dier as a DM there’s more flexibility to allow Sessegnon to roam forward, but that doesn’t seem to be Mourinho’s style

Once again Sanchez got bullied and we conceded the 2nd goal today.
Tomorrow never comes so Toby-Verts is bolted on.
We were solid on the left until Ben got that knock and comms were saying we could go 3 at the back with him so Toby-Verts-Davies (all fit).
Gazza much better on the ball than Hugo. Can JM improve Hugo?
No. So
Gazza
Toby-Verts-Davies
Aurier is a talented footballer. No question. Can he cut out the mistakes? Let's give JM and him the benefit.
Gazza
Aurier-Toby-Verts-Davies.
Post getting long so that's it for now.

There is defo a good right back there in aurier. Has he ever had a run of games. Davies for me is nailed on now we are asking the back four to do what they should of been doing all along defend. I think he will persist with dier until he buys a top class DM. The lad from lille I reckon is nailed on in jan. Ndombele/winks at 8. Dele 10 then same front 3 as today as jose loves pace on the counter. Lo celso will get plenty gametime at 10 or for moura. Verts/Sanchez will partner toby. Good thing is that it will be 4-2-3-1 week in week out with slight personell changes. Jose likes the double pivot as do I as it gives the front 4 licence to attack and better structure defensively. I actually think now we have got rid of the shit playing out from the back hugo will thrive

Eriksen lamela rose sissoko could be dead men walking, as could foyth and KWP as Jose will upgrade at fullback. If you asked him Davies would be nailed on as he likes consistent defenders first and foremost

Considering how pragmatic he is, he will change some players all the time. The only "untouchables" in my opinion are Gazza, Toby, Dele and Kane. Lucas, GLC and Erik will be swapped for each other all the time, as will the midfield block.

I can't believe so many people have Toby in the "untouchables".

He's been fucking awful for going on 2 seasons now. The injuries (and losing the pace of Walker to clean up behind him on his side of the pitch) have turned him into a shell of what he used to be. He's constantly out of position and he's easily turned by even the shittiest of strikers now.

The shirt still says Alderweireld on the back, but he's been our worst center back for a while. Mourinho doesn't owe him any loyalty due to his previous performances, and I won't be surprised to see him settle on Sanchez & Vertonghen.

Will he rotate as much as Poch?

Mourinho is more tactically aware. I don't think he will have a go to line up. He'll decide what is best depending on the injury list and who the opposition is.

If everyone was fit then it'll come down to the opposition. He said it himself in an interview.

Gazza
Aurier-Toby-Jan-Davies
Dier-NDombele
Son-Dele-Lo Celso
Kane

I have to imagine Lo Celso gets some run, and I think Lucas is a nice player to add at the end of a match when we need a goal. Sessegnon should be incorporated throughout the cups/season. Be nice to see a new CDM in January, I won’t pretend to know whom.

Jose might like Sessengon for the left wing role too as backup to Son.
