Why aren’t we scouting players like this?

Do you honestly believe we aren’t aware of players like this? The most prolific teenage striker on the planet that is known worldwide by even casual viewers of the Champions League? You really believe we’ve not watched him, or considered him?

Of course we are scouting players like this. Every top 50 club in Europe scout players like this. However, there’s a big gap between scouting and signing and there were so many reasons not to go for Haaland.

We can’t just sign all the players.

Go for it now, his stock is only going to keep rising, we should have got him when his release clause was 18m.
But he wouldn’t just cost £50m, his release clause. Railoa would want maybe £20m to broker the deal, with another £10m to Haaland as a signing fee. And they’d then insist on a release clause of maybe £70m that would just be too much of a temptation to Real Madrid.

And he only signed for the, last week. He’s not going to leave this soon. He’s not Clive Allen.

Just ones that have zero impact dude.
Doing it our way.
You do know that most of the players that have helped improve us hugely in the last ten years have been signed, yes?

We do get our share and more of injury cases and flops, but every club gets these. It’s not realistic to expect our transfer strategy to be:

Sign loads of players.
But only world class ones.
That I’ve personally heard of.
Pay whatever the transfer fee has to be.
Pay the agent what he wants.
Pay the player what he wants.

We live in an instant gratification society, which is now permeating football and frankly spoiling it. It’s made a number of fans think they deserve success just because they’ve seen Man City and PSG do it. I want my success to be a bit less grubby to be honest.

But we don't have success so what is your point?

My point is that we can’t just go out and buy everyone. This isn’t FM2020. And we can’t just pay what the other club wants. That’s not how life works.

You support Spurs for fuck sake. How have you managed to engender this attitude that we should be stacked with world class talent and winning the league every year?

What really makes you think there’s a massive bottomless pit of cash to spend and that every player would want to play for us?

I’d suggest we did scout Harland as we very likely scout every top league for talent. I imagine we were put off by the cost (not just the transfer), the fact we have Kane and the need for a release clause in his contract.

Not all. Some. One or two would be peachy. One even
We signed four in the summer and one in this window. But for various reasons, they are all shite.

Ndombele - record transfer but fat and injured.
GLC - only a loan so doesn’t count.
Sess - too young and unproven.
Clarke - see above.
Gedson - only a loan so doesn’t count.

Alternatively, about £170m if the loans end up as purchases.

Quoting myself like a mental. But to be clear, these are not my thoughts on the players we signed. Just what I read from others on here.

Well Clarke doesn't count, you're right, the others do of course.

That doesn't cover up the gaping holes in our squad, including not having a single striker - Mourinho's words, not mine - going into the second half of the season, which is inexcusable.

It’s a case of if another team signs a good player, it’s Levys fault.
If we sign Piatek or Jose, they might be our new Berbatov, but do you think Levy will get praise?

No, it will be “where’s the DM, imagine if we signed one we could have finished..........”

Having said that, signing no one this week will be a disgrace.
We can’t only look at long term solutions, right now we need a quick fix, and paying over the odds is actually worth the risk.
