Kane is more clinical with his shots than anyone else on the team. Why wouldn't they score more goals with him back? He was scoring regularly before, and creating chances too.

Or are you just talking about a generic Kane replacement?

A generic Kane replacement. We weren't playing well when Kane was in the line-up so to think that another striker to replace Kane would make a net positive difference is just wrong. If anything, in theory, we would play even worse with a Kane replacement.

Surely has a premiership club we should have at least one player who could do the DM role,to a passable standard? They are premiership players at the top of their game, after all.
its like the Army.Whatever Corp or Regt a recruit joins, they are taught the basic skills of soldiering. Then he or she goes on to specialise in whatever their units main duty of duties are. They still know the basic skills
It's not the holy grail we are looking for.

Then something is wrong when one of our players can't kick the ball out deep in Southampton half to allow the sub to happen.

Exactly

Aurier should have lumped it into RowZ instead of getting dispossessed but on the whole I thought we did well and deserved a win

Should have made the sub ages ago.
Hugo is cap'n. IIRC he had the ball a couple of times-he should have put it in touch.

Mourinho clearly said, in last 10-15 minutes Giovanni, Son, Lucas were finding it difficult to continue. Don't thing he has enough quality players to replace them in last 10-15 minutes.
Why did he sub off Dele then?
And it shows what he thinks of Ndombele he does not trust him to replace one of the three.

Despite the doom and gloom I did see some green shoots today. There were spells of slick passing that looked like Spurs of 2 years ago, even Deli managed to complete two or three class one-twos. Yes the team as a whole were not great - but I think improvements in defence can be seen, particularly Aurier, and Alderweireld is looking a little stronger.
The problem I see is that we have capitulated in defence since we sold Dembele - we just haven't had solidity and the ability to break up opponents attacks in that critical DM role. So we desperately need to permanently sign in that position in the next week,. We could also hopefully use the Eriksen windfall to get Cavani on loan till the end of the season with commitment to buy if we qualify for Europe. That should be enough to secure at least top 6 and who knows, maybe even the FA Cup (and the ECL ??)
Next season we sign a left back and a right back and we then look to have a nice balanced squad. A CB may help but I really think that Tanganga looks a prospect in that position - Alderweireld and Sanchez will be better with help in in front with a strong DM, and Foyth may even reappear at some time.
On the other hand I may wake up and see the same team next week against City and realise it was all just a dream.

They've played every game for 90 minutes. Lucas especially has ran his bollocks off all season long. Of course they would be tired.

The catch cry of the modern fan "Completely different player. No chance."

I think our best tackler the last couple of games has been Gio. I wonder if we can clone him.
