Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Just see your edit. Makes sense.

So in effect we have £30m less per year to spend on transfers.

maybe but the stadium increase in capacity was making us around £50m so the net affect was a profit, we basically just need people in the gates again.

These are figures I read off the Tottenham website and that Swiss ramble accountant guy ages ago so I can’t remember the exact just the rough.

Could have.
Should have.

Biggest words in football.

We aren't owed anything. If we were big enough, we'd have won a trophy. We'd have competed consistently. But we haven't. And we aren't.

Bad business from the board. Questionable coaching from managers. Underperforming players. A mentality of never getting passed that final hurdle that's been ever present for years.

These are all valid excuses as to why we haven't won a thing.

Unfortunately, it's likely we'll never be a winning team whilst we are as small as we are. And it'll probably take for us to be taken over by a rich Saudi or Qatar family to actually get there consistently.
That is really sad reading.

Unfortunately I can't disagree with any of it, especially the last paragraph. that's the state of footbal these days.

Chelsea and city were not bigger clubs than us back in the day, they have gained a winning mentality by having owners who won't accept anything less a trophy every season.
We on the other hand have owners who want us run nicely and self sufficient, but little or no emphasis on winning anything, if we do then it's a bonus but not one to be side tracked from of being the league's best run club which no medals are given out for.

City & Chelsea bought a place at the top table with dubiously sourced finance and have both since been charged with breaking various fairplay rules, skewed the sense of competition in the league and played a major role in fucking up the economics of the game.

That's nothing to do with ENIC or Spurs lack of ambition.... Yet take those two 'Frankenstein' clubs out of the equation and our last 15 years looks extremely different.

I think the sooner people realise the better. I think alot of the toxic atmosphere at The Lane is down to fans thinking we are bigger than we are and like we have some sort of divine right to win every week.

"Oh but we were the first English club to win a European trophy"

Big fucking whoop.

Preston were the first team to win the league back to back, win it unbeaten and do the double. Over 100 years ago.

You know the only people who care about that and speak as if it's relevant? Preston fans.

What do you mean "nothing illegal", City are being banned from Europe for breaking FFP.
Chelsea are fucked if/when Abramovich leaves.

Surely you're not holding them up as a model of how Spurs should be run ?

Being banned for two years from UEFA tournaments may hurt Man City, it may not but the world doesn’t begin and end with these two tournament s after all English clubs didnot compete in Europe for a number of years yet there was still 3 domestic trophies to compete for.

As for Chelsea being fucked if Abramovich leaves hasn't that been banged on about for many a year yet despite his difficulties is there any sign of his selling up? Even if he did sell up the numbers suggest that he would be around £900m in profit.

Of course Abramovich would be in profit, he's owed £175 BILLION !!!!!!!!!!! from Chelsea football club. He's not going to live forever, no more than Lewis is.
Do you want our club ran like that ?

Depends how you define big club.

Can a big club go 60 years without a league win and 30 without a major cup win? We've realistically challenged once within those 30 years.

Big stadium, yes.
Great players in the past and present, yes.
Big finances, yes.

But does that constitute a big club? Or does they constitute a very well run club?

We aren't even in the top 5 for biggest clubs in the Premier League. Thats not me putting the club down, that's being realistic.

I do think we are bigger than being a Southampton-esque development academy though. And we probably should be winning a trophy here and there.

Unfortunately its usually the bigger clubs who have that mentality to win.

Bravo sir. Well said
Once you realise football isn't a level playing field and we're trying to transition from big fish in small pond to small fish in bigger pond it really sets in.

The 5 bigger and richer than us will continue to scoop up nearly all honours.

Do you want our club ran like that ?

£175 billion. ??

So he is owed actually £1.23 billion from the holding company who own 100% of the shares in a football club valued at around £2 billion.

You ask “Do you want our club ran like that” See this is where it gets interesting lets just suppose a SaudI or maybe another Russian Billionaire shipped up and paid Uncle Joe say £2 billion would it lead to you supporting another club?

Look mate it hasn't really stopped clubs though, look at Madrid they get dubious bail outs, but it doesn't stop UEFA smiling whilst handing over the CL to them every couple of years.
City and Chelsea are not going to stop spending whilst pursuing their ambitious path.
As for our club I think we all accept where we are along with a lack of spending due to debts and the virus.
The only way this ends is with change of ownership, which in the current climate won't happen because ENIC won't get what they want for it.

The vast majority of that debt is not payable for decades, it’s only the interest we have to concern ourselves with.
It really is a mystery why so many of our own fans brush this under the carpet.

Or maybe not.

Think a lot of people assume that all these wealthy owners are the devil themselves, but dear old uncle Joe and Daniel are lovely friendly trusting people.
None of these businessman get where they are by buying nice, they are ruthless and cold, we have seen the antics levy got up to with west ham over the London stadium so we shouldn't kid ourselves.
Maybe it comes down to how they all want to run things with their owners bigger cunts than ours.
:troll:

Aren't you in effect just agreeing with what's being pointed out to you?

Unless you're saying that you want to become a petro-club or worse; I don't really understand your over-arching point.

What has a Saudi owner have to do with anything.
I'm only talking about the finances of the club.
I'll ask again would you be happy for Spurs to owe (I'll accept your figures) £1.13 billion to any owner?

I'd agree with you except that isn't the issue under discussion

I personally don't see what is wrong with petro dollars, if you have it and want to spend it that is fine by me.
I don't think a club can be continually successful without out the so called "right way" is a thing of the past.

Valid points both yourself and stevee stevee make. I think we are a big club but not one that can and should demand title after title. 2 cups a decade would be something I think is realistic with the status we have in the game but we all know football has changed and the modern day is dictated by wealth. I don’t like it but when you get the same earnings winning the Carabao Cup as you do one group game in the Champions League that’s just the harsh reality when it comes to stumping up the dough for quality to bolster the ranks.

Our club has had to take a step back on the pitch to develop off of it. Personally I feel we have come on leaps and bounds during a turbulent time with the training ground and stadium being built at the same time as one another pretty soundly. Not wonderfully well as ultimately we lack silverware but it was a foundation building process that had longer odds of delivering instant success.

A big club yes, a huge club no but a club with huge potential a season you have mentioned Tots. A lot of clubs in football would gladly swap places with where we stand as a club from top to bottom, it’s down to the owners now to navigate the next steps which for men the jury is still out on them wanting to or being capable of doing so but top four is still enough to keep me content, as long as a Cup here or there can get over the line for the foreseeable.
