I just hated Totti Totti 's analysis on the worth of Eriksen, James and Coutinho based on goals and assists. That is not how I evaluate a player.

I only posted the stats because he had stated that Rodriguez hadn't lived up to the hype following the 2014 World Cup.

His hype from that World Cup was from being a midfielder who could score fantastic goals and create - I'd say he lived up to that at two of the biggest clubs in world football.

Sometimes I am not sure where you stand when it comes to stats. Sometimes you use them to launch an impassioned defence of the likes of Lamela, and other times you scoff at them.

Personally, I find a lot of stats (or how they are presented) can be borderline useless unless I can watch the player for myself. And that includes the the players he is playing with, and the players he is up against. That's how I go about getting my context.

Two of the first things I actually look at in a player are A. his touch (and how he deals with being pressed) and B. how fast he can run.

It depends on the use of the stats. If someone is calling Lucas more creative than Lamela (or better offensively), then yes, I will use stats to prove that for the most part it's bollocks. If someone uses particular stats to show a player is good defensively for example, yet not taking into consideration other key elements such as the team they play for, the teams style of play etc. I will do my best to show another point of view.

Two things I look at are usually touch and their overall awareness. It's why I love players like Rui Costa and the playmakers of the past who would be scrutinised by people nowadays for not running their heart out off the ball.

what’s the left back situation ?

I think unfortunately due to our needs other places and Jose seeming to like the supposed steadiness (I think this is vastly overrated with him) of Davies that we are likely stuck with him as LB.

The likely best case scenario is that we bring in a guy like Di Sciglio and a young RB who is brought in for the future but plays well enough that we can switch Di Sciglio over to the left. However, that means that one of those two likely need to play in EL/Cups as well unless we use Tanganga there.

Most likely we are going with Davies as the PL LB and then Cirkin or Sess as the EL/Cup LB which is less than inspiring. I guess we have to hope that the two youngsters are up for it because Davies is a poor enough option as it is let alone if we start overplaying him in multiple competitions.

Just seen that Lewis Dunk has signed a new 5 yr deal with Brighton today, we were linked with him last week.
Clearly that was an agent scaremongering a club into paying more.

Makes you wonder how much speculation is just mischievous agents putting out stories to get a better deal for their clients.

Starting to get really concerned now, we need 3-4 more players this window.
We are getting left behind by the clubs around us.....

I think we will end up getting at least a new RB and back-up striker.

I think the bigger concern is that with this one in one out cheap approach means that PEH is likely the "big" addition this window.

Perhaps that changes with your view on a Aarons, Celik, Castagne but I don't think we are bringing in a quality player that can improve our team or help us get to top 4. Looks more and more like it will be a functional window to try and maintain our 6th spot. The selling point will be that the players we brought in were better than Sissoko, Aurier and Vorm as though that matters and not whether the players are good enough to compete with the other teams we are competing with for top 4.

It seems like every time someone is brought up media talks about how we first have to sell someone else to finance it or see if there is a player we have we can swap to reduce the price. That doesn't seem very likely to result in us getting top players.

I am also concerned that there seems to be zero talk about moving guys like Lamela, Sissoko, Davies, Moura, Alli. Maybe all the focus is on the Aurier move but we have a lot of guys that do little, seem to have not much of a role and could use with some new energy but it looks more likely to be more of the same meh next season.

As much as I like the idea of BL potentially pushing up the price for Aurier this seems much more like a situation where we try to squeeze AC, they decide to look elsewhere, sign a different RB (likely the guy we would like) and then Leverkusen pulls out when they actually watch game film of Aurier playing for us.

If we have a team dumb enough to want to sign Aurier just get the deal done ASAP before they can back out and we are stuck with him.
