Tbf, Tanguy fucked himself.

I was referring to the way Jose fucked DeBruyne. Didn’t play him for no particular reason and then denigrated the player publicly. He turned out to be very wrong about DeBruyne. I will be very pissed off if we sell Ndombele and he becomes even to 80% of what DeBruyne has become.

Hakimi has already signed for Inter for 40m (more than twice what Doherty will cost), so not an option.

Atal has had a serious knee injury, so might not be the same player, plus Doherty got the same amount of goals and assists last season as Atal has in his entire senior club level career, most of which Atal scored and assisted as an attacker, not a RWB. That's before you add in PL experience (a big plus with our fixture congestion early on) and HG status.

As I said, there's caveats with most of the options, including Doherty.

Even at 40m EU, Hakimi is a quantum upgrade on Doherty and is 21yo. Aurier plus 20m for 21yo Hakimi would seem like an absolute steel in 2 years time.

And there's plenty of players we could offload to help with our budget too, like Winks, Dier, Foyth, Sissoko, Lamela, Bergwijn or Moura, Davies etc.

“I was completely honest. I said, “I feel like the club doesn’t really want me here. I want to play football. I’d rather you sell me.”

“I think José was a bit disappointed, but to be fair to him, I think he also understood that I absolutely needed to play. So the club ended up selling me, and there was no big problem at all.

“Chelsea got more than double the price they paid for me, and I got into a much better situation at Wolfsburg.”

To be fair, nobody knew he was going to be any good. He ended up at Wolfsburg. So technically every scout in the Prem were wrong about him.

Except Spurs. We don't have any scouts. :pochsmirk:

Hakimi isnt an option though, as he has signed for Inter and he apparently turned down Man City and Bayern to join Inter, so he probably wouldn't have signed for us even if we were in for him then.

Selling those players you mentioned to help with the budget would have needed to be replaced and very possibly for more than we would get for them.

He played well in his only appearances at Chelsea. Then Jose benched him for no particular reason. KD said that he knew he wouldn’t play under Jose so he asked for a transfer ASAP.

I don’t care about scouts. When you have a player you coach every single day and you don’t play him and then he becomes world class somewhere else, you failed, and failed big time.

What worries me about Jose is his ego and mind games with players. Tanguy needs to play more to reach any sort of conclusion about him. To ship him off now could look monumentally stupid in a few years.

I know Hakimi’s gone now, but he was up for grabs. I'm not sure I buy that chose Inter over ManC and Bayern stuff.

Not all of them need replacing, and there is plenty of value out there. Winks 40m for Sangare 20m for example - we've upgraded and made 20m. Lamela and Bergwijn would fetch us what 40m ? We could buy Stengs or Eze + 20m. Dier, Foyth, Sissoko what 45-50m ? We could get Kessie for that and if we bought Eze buy someone like Todibo for 20m or less. Liverpool picked Tsimakis for 10m. There's value out there. Wijndal the LB at Alkmaar is valued at about 9m Eur.

I'm not bitching about us having limited funds, just what we are spending those limited funds on. Paying 16m for a 28yo Doherty is money down the toilet and barely an upgrade on Aurier IMO, 40m on Hakimi would be worth about 60-70m in two/three years time and an infinitely better player during that time.

Money being tight surely means we need to be even smarter with it, no?

Where are we getting 40 m from Winks other than a journo's made up click bait article?

I agree, I would prefer to get a younger RB that can be here for the next 5 years but if that isn't an option Doherty for 15 m isn't a bad option to wait until someone better is available that can be our long term solution, I also think adding a young player, even Max Aarons, to apprentice under Doherty would be great as well but unlikely based on Levy's cheapness.

I may be relying on watching them and won't argue the stats but having seen both play a number of times those stats are not what I saw out there. Aurier seems to be a stats darling as shown by that one poster constantly posting supposed good stats Aurier had after we all watched him shit the bed.

I could be proven wrong but those stats seem to show how poor stats can be rather than Doherty being a worse option than Aurier.

I also think there is zero chance that Hakimi would have agreed to come here.

How do? Do you know exactly what is going on now?

Well for one, KDB wasn’t a record signing for Chelsea. If I recall correctly, he had spent time out of loan, wasn’t impressing enough to crack first team, and was sold to a mediocre German team because he wanted first team action. Chelsea went on to win the league in dominating fashion. KDB developed into a much better player than many expected. Then returned to PL. It worked out pretty well for both sides.

Ndombele came in with hype and expectations. He did not meet those expectations. I don’t need to know “exactly what’s going on” to know that. Doesn’t mean I’m all aboard giving up on him. I’d be perfectly fine keeping him. But if he’s having trouble staying in shape and/or doesn’t fit with the new manager, then I’m also fine selling.

So yeah, I’m obviously missing information. We all are. But every time Jose doesn’t think a player fits doesn’t mean that player is going to be the next KDB. It’s a lazy take imo.

I think we will continue apprenticing Gedson Fernandes as a future right back, he's already on the books and highly unlikely to get much time in midfield, a year learning the RB position and then we either buy him or his loan ends. He has the skills, he just needs to learn the disciplines.

I am not too hopeful or keen on the idea of Gedson as our future RB. Doesn't really seem to suit his skillset and even though he had never played the position before I thought he should have looked better at it against Ipswich Town.

I understand having him train there with how short we are at the position but I hope it is in an emergency/3rd RB option rather than him (or Tanganga) being the main back-up/EL starter. If Doherty goes down the idea of Gedson playing RB in EPL games is pretty terrifying.

But I would prefer that Gedson's loan be terminated and we brought in someone who is actually useful and can help the club.

Tanganga, on the other hand, has played RB in real games and looked reasonably proficient at it. He can track runs and tackle. He also played LB of course, and could potentially operate in a Davies-type role there.

It might explain a lot if he's being thought of as the backup at both positions. Doherty/Tanganga/Gedson on the right, Davies/Tanganga/Cirkin on the left.

Pair Tanganga with a starter if it's Cardiff, and with a 3rd stringer if it's Carlisle.

LOL talk about wishful thinking, maybe you are slowly (very slowly) waking up to the realities of ENIC.
There was a single report about Man city wanting to pay 40m for Winks but that's it. If Man City wanted to buy him they would have made moves already. Jose rates Dier so he's going nowhere. Bergwijn??? He's just arrived, he's going nowhere. Sissoko can't find a buyer. Foyth, so far no takers at 12m.

Agree that it doesn't seem too smart to replace Aurier with a 28 year old Doherty. Perhaps the plan is for him to replace KWP.

Ndombele will be lucky to ever become 30% the footballer that DeBruyne is.He lacks the basic element of what a footballer needs hard work dedication and effort.
He is a fucking disgrace get him out and spend the money on improving the squad.

Inter Milan to make renewed attempt for Tanguy Ndombele
RMC Sport report that Italian outfit Inter Milan intend to make a renewed attempt to sign 23-year-old French international midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Tottenham Hotspur.

After conversations about a player exchange deal tailed off just before Inter began the final leg of their 2019/20 Europa League adventure, Antonio Conte’s side now intend to return to the table with Spurs despite having had several rounds of discussions with Daniel Levy and the North London club’s representatives about the matter.

For the moment, Daniel Levy is refusing to budge, but Inter will continue to push.
