on the verge of signing a quality rb and now its not good enough because he's a gooner in his spare time.

your exact words mate. So either its your own opinion, which I highly doubt.. Or you're inferring it's someone elses just to get some attention or cause friction.
Where did I say that people have said “we shouldn’t sign him”

I’ll wait

This is what impresses me so far. Apart from my Joe Hart reservations. We appear to be going for dependable and reliable in the defensive areas where we desperately need such qualities. The star players are already there, now they need solid back up to give them the confidence to be more adventurous when going forward.
I like what I'm seeing, more of the same please.

Fantastic signing!
What I love most about our approach to transfers since Jose came is the way they have mostly been under wraps until just a few days before they actually happened. The club has kept things tight, managed information well, negotiated in secrecy and then boom! Not many were talking about Doherty as a top option before yesterday. Amazing work really. He is certainly an upgrade on Aurier in my opinion.

Agreed. I still think we need a top very experienced signing that has won stuff, like Rakitic for instance, who I think would be a superb signing and one that Mourinho loves. But I do like so far that we are signing solid premier league pro’s that will improve us. Still need more though than Doherty and Hojberg.

It's weird how a transfer like this quickly gets normalised. This isn't normal. I didn't see anyone linking us to Doherty.

It has already been said but why on earth are Wolves selling one of their key players? A guy with 3 years on his contract who was seemingly happy to stay? And not for huge money.

This seems sure to weaken Wolves and strengthen us, one of their rivals. So makes no sense from their side.

Can only guess that there's agent stuff behind the scenes that's made this possible. Mendes has a lot of power at Wolves, and if he wants to make the deal, there's a few levers he can pull I guess. It's a murky world, but working for us this time.

I'm now looking forward to more left field transfers - Kane backup should be next priority. Hoping for someone better than Wilson now.

Agree... Doherty is to Aurier at RB what Hojbjerg is to Winks/Dier in CM: ie: a solid, dependable upgrade.

I think he'll prove he was good enough to at least be a squad player here.

We starved the oppor bastard of gametime for too damn long.

He might.
With playing time.

But for that he needs 1,5-2 seasons of regular football to be ready to be good squad player for us.
Paradox is - if he would have stayed with us, he still wouldn't have got regular playing time and hence he wouldn't have been able to become this decent squad player.

Poch majorly f*ced up his developement. Constantly sitting on the bench from age 19-23 with minimal experience of senior football is just brutal.

Who here would be happy if our transfer went like this...

Out - Ndombele, Aurier , KWP

in - Hart, Hojberg, Doherty, Skriniar, Rakitic, Calum Wilson

I think very realistic targets and transfers, especially if we sell Ndombele. This would make us a force in my opinion. Not quite City/Liverpool force, but certainly a solid top 4 team that.

I still think we need more of number 10 type to challenge Dele rather than Rakatic. Also, we desperately need a set piece specialist. Could be crucial to improve that area of the side to score some cheap goals force teams to come out against us and let us play on the transition.

Rakitic can play there mate. Got a great eye for goal and fantastic at long range shooting.

I would love that.

Unfortunately I can't see us getting all of them.

Yep, someone experienced and with winner mentality would be freaking awesome.
And Rakitic could be the guy IF we move on Ndombele. If we don't and want to give him a chance then I would rather see us looking at someone with more defensive abilities. Either a DM (Khedira is available, but I am afraid he personally is too much past it... but someone in his mold both positional and experience wise) or even a CB (though at CB we have more experience with Toby already). ST could be an option and if Jose would believe he could squeeze something good out of say Higuain, I'd be happy with this option as well.
