There is in no way Doherty is a Levy signing. If Levy had his way, Aarons would have been bought in. 20 year old with sell on value. Doherty will have no sell on value, it's a Mourinho signing. Hojbjerg was only linked to us when Mourinho had signed. Yes, he had a year left which is a Levy favourite, but Mourinho would have been behind him due to his leadership.
I'm saying he's cheap so Levy is happy to pay for him. He's not going to pay 30 million for Aarons and I wouldn't want him to.

But it makes no sense on financial or team building levels.
I think it makes perfect sense at this specific moment in time.

We're not in the CL, where the big money is.
Covid has fucked the finances of all teams and we don't know how long that's going to last.

Get in a proven PL player with experience, to help us get back to the CL. Then in 2 years or so, replace him when the finances are better.

In an ideal world we'd buy a young one as well (Aaron) so we have a ready made replacement. Can't see that happening though.

Lloris
Doherty - Alderweireld - Sanchez - Davies
Hojbjerg - Winks
Lucas - Lo Celso - Son
Kane

Gazzaniga/Hart, Tanganga, Dier, Ndombele, Bergwin, Dele, New ST
I think thats a lot better starting line up than last season, and with proper depth too (Lamela, Sissoko, Sessengon not included on that bench)

A striker and creative midfielder are still needs, but it's been a good start to the window.

Two of those should not be starting. Especially when looking who;s on the bench.

Getting rid of Sissoko, Lamela, Rose, Aurier, Foyth,. I'm 50/50 on Moura . Bring in back up striker, DM, creative midfielder.
Gedson won't be staying, there are question marks over Ndombele, Sess, Clarke

Sorry, perhaps I could have been clearer.... Not 'what do you dislike about the squad', but 'What is your definition of a rebuild'? ...Be that us or any other club.

..... And what's the talk of "smoke and mirrors" all about?

Smoke and mirrors means that we are hardly strengthening the squad that much. Rebuild= get rid of players who aren't good enough bring in better players. In our case we need players who are good enough to challenge for top 4 and trophies.

. It doesn't mean there is going to be any big rebuild, PEH replaces Wanyama, Hart replaces Vorm, Doherty replaces KWP, it's smoke and mirrors.

What exactly do you mean by big rebuild then ? selling half the team and buying 6-7 new players ?

The current transfers is exactly how the squad can be incrementally improved slowly. Unless you want to go the Leeds way and splurge cash on "stars" and end up where they ended up

Definitely agree but I think that this will be our starting line up next year. Only hope I have is perhaps son moving over to the right for moura with bergwijn on the left.

This would allow son to have less emphasis on staying wide and drift more centrally where he is so dangerous.

As far as Ndombele for Winks goes I think that’s just a matter of hoping he can play his way in to the team through Europa league performances if he is here. After today’s news it’s not looking good.

So the average team "rebuilds" every summer & January do they?

Sorry mate, as terminology goes, it's not typically taken to mean something merely reflective of general window-to-window trf activity.... The term "re-build" usually reflects a significant overhaul of a squad that is deemed to be nearing the end of a cycle; often taking multiple windows to achieve....

We've had 9 new players (and counting) through the door in approx 12 months the bulk of which are younger than those on the way out.... We ARE in the midst of a rebuild. That is exactly what's going on..... If you want to see 15 players in and out in just over a year you're being entirely unrealistic (perhaps if money is no object, but let's park that fantasy for the benefit of sensible discussion).

Your use of the term "smoke and mirrors" is entirely inappropriate too..... Are you suggesting that the players being brought in (especially the likes of GLC, Ndombele, Sess, Bergwijn & Doherty) weren't/aren't intended/expected to improve us? ....That (eg) 60m for Ndombele was just an elaborate ruse?

Suarez is a fucking scumbag

but if you can’t see that he’d improve us dramatically even at his age, you must be smoking some mad dank

one of the best players in the world still

Yep. Even though they were outclassed on the night his goal against Munich was right from the top draw.

Saying that I cant see us buying him but you never know. I could see him at city actually as an option along with augero. They need another striker.
