Diego Costa was fucking shit for Atleti last season, considerably worse than in the previous two seasons, when he was just plain poor. 5 goals in 30 games might tell you that.

As for all this "He might be a cunt but he'd be our cunt" bollocks. Jesus wept, listen to yourselves.
Costa is bad and you should feel bad.

Well, not you Bill Madrid Bill Madrid , but people who think Costa would be a good addition. Rather Wilson or King from Bournemouth. Or maybe even a good striker!

I agree, especially considering the sources.

But it would be a different scenario in relation to Suarez. The Uruguayan was Barcelona´s main striker for the last 6 seasons, earning 450k per week - he´s out of our reach in terms of finances, let alone convincing him to be a bench player.

Costa has been sharing his place with Álvaro Morata, and I believe he earns around 160k - still expensive, I know. But if he´s happy to be Harry Kane´s backup, signing him could be a possibility. Costa is still good and experienced enough to do our dirty work in Cup matches through the season.

Tottenham get a good solution for the next couple of years - Troy Parrot would be getting ready in the meantime. It could be interesting.

And let´s be honest, Costa is a fascinating character to have in a locker room full of "good guys".
Sorry but suggesting Costa would be a good addition is ludicrous. How could any spurs fan want that prick in our side?

There's more to come says Mr Gold

Quiz about AVB on there as well. I am ashamed to say I scored only 4/10
I got 7 , but a lot of guesses.

Hello everyone! First post here. Been following Tottenham ever since since AVB became the manager, and with the 2012/3 season, Gareth Bale became my favourite player. He really was amazing in that CAM position, you always knew he would score from that centre/right-outside of the box area.

I'm a Sporting supporter here in Portugal, but you can count on me on having an unbiased opinion about portuguese managers/players/football in general.

Speaking about this summer transfer, if we assume Doherty is signing, it has been a sensible transfer window. Two players with PL experience, quite cheap, and both have the profile to become 'Mourinho soldiers'. I believe Doherty is a big upgrade on Aurier, while Pierre is an understandable option for a short of quality midfield area. Joe Hart, he will definitely be a sub, but in my opinion a player who will benefit mentally from working under Jose.

Assuming a back up striker will be signed.. Who do you think that player could be?
Also, do you think there will be any signings apart from Doherty and a striker?

Thanks!

Quiet moment so time for an updated squad listing (under UEFA rules) assuming Doherty signs :

Club trained : Kane, Winks, Rose (and space for CCV)

Trained by other clubs affiliated to The FA : Dele, Sessegnon, Hart, Doherty (4/4)

Overseas Trained : Lloris, Davies, Gazzaniga, Foyth, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Dier, Højbjerg, Ndombele, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Lamela, Bergwijn, Moura, Son, Aurier (16/17)

Under 21's : Tanganga, Cirkin, White, Bowen et al (unlimited numbers allowed)

So one spare 'overseas trained' player space - and a second space if Aurier leaves.

BTW, no problem in signing other HG players, they can always take an 'overseas trained' player space, but not vice versa.

The other interesting information is when player contracts end - anyone on 2 years or less will either have their contracts extended or is likely to leave as value drops with contracts of under 2 years.

Contract Termination Dates
2021 Rose CCV (and Gedson loan ends)
2022 Lloris Gazza Aurier Foyth Lamela Hart Austin Whiteman
2023 Alderweireld Son Sissoko Clarke Parrott White Eyoma, Bowden
2024 Kane Dele, Winks, Sanchez Moura, Davies Skipp Dier
2025 Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon, Bergwijn Tanganga, Højbjerg
Jesus. We would lose all 5 GKs in 2022.

Also why isn't Sess an U21?

Either Costa or Suarez would be good 2nd striker signings. They‘ve got that fight in them, knows what winning takes, and have won silverware in their career. We want more players with that winning mentality in our squad.

To be clear: I don´t think Costa fits the profile of striker we are looking for and I don´t think the stories are legit - as I said.

I was simply considering the hypothetical benefits - purely an imagination exercise.

However, I´m entitled to my opinion. If I did want us to sign him, like some other Spurs fans right here in this thread (check out the previous pages) would that make me (us) against Tottenham?

Doherty is a Gonner. Some Spurs fans were posting his old tweets to criticize his signing. Some Spurs fans are against his signing. They still want the best for Tottenham.

(Democracy, you know).

Costa is shit now 5 goals last season and lost his touch of pace not to mention he would want over 100k to be here.

Doherty for 12m and Reguilon for 25m would be incredible business. Swap Ndombele for Skriniar and we are looking good.

Doherty - Toby - Skriniar - Reguilon

Trying to not get my hopes up. But it’s too late.

Fair point. I just couldn’t stand seeing Costa in a spurs shirt. He’s a dirty cheat just like Suarez.

The Doherty thing is different. I don’t have an issue with that as he didn’t play for Woolwich and it’s very likely he can’t even remember those tweets. He probably couldn’t care less about Woolwich. AND he’s still a good player. Costa is past his best.
