Updated Squad Friday 2/10/2020 (After Vinicius announced by Benfica)

Lloris (Hart, Whiteman)
Doherty (Aurier) - Sanchez (Tanganga) - Alderweireld (Dier) - Reguilon (Davies)
Hojbjerg (Sissoko) - Lo Celso (Winks)
Bale (Moura) - Dele (Ndombele) - Son (Bergwijn, Lamela)
Kane (Vinicius )

Those 25 players, categorised by UEFA would be :
Club Trained - 4 ( Kane, Bale, Winks, Whiteman)
Other Assoc Trained 3 (Hart, Doherty, Dele)
Overseas Trained 17 (Lloris, Aurier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Dier, Reguilon, Davies, Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Lucas, Ndombele, Son, Bergwijn, Vinicius, Lamela)
Under 21 1 (Tanganga)
Total Players 25

Players NOT included above, and assume these need to leave either permanantly or on loan. :

Gazzaniga, Foyth, Gedson (all overseas trained)
Sessegnon Trained by other clubs affiliated to The FA)
Rose (Club Trained)

Not sure what happpens if Skriniar (Overseas Trained) joins as that requires an established overseas trained player to leave (as we have the maxuimum 17 allowed) - or for UEFA purposes one is not registered whilst for PL purposes Davies counts as HG not overseas trained so can be in squad
There is only 16 players in the overseas trained players list not 17 and only 24 players names overall.

I don't see any indication that Gedson's loan will be terminated, so he can be added to the list of overseas trained players.

If we also bring on Skrinar, we would have to lose one of the overseas trained CB, Sissoko or (my least fav to lose) Lamela, as they are all positions we are overstocked in.

Also to add:
to the leave list - CCV
to Other Assoc Trained list - Clarke

  • Gedson doesn't need to be named in the PL squad (U21) so I guess we'll keep him for PL and the domestic cups.
  • Also, Davies is considered homegrown in the PL, so another overseas spot will open up for the league which will probably be taken by Gazzaniga.
  • Unfortunately, it seems Foyth won't be named in any squad so he's definitely off (unless we fail to land Skriniar or another CB).
  • We still have one more squad space for a homegrown player in both the league and EL squads. Probably means we're keeping CCV?

Best to plan for the most restrictive comp (in our case EL), unless Gedson and Gazza arehappy to be excluded.

If we bring in another CB, we would have 6 including CCV, so would be best for him to leave (either loan or transfer) for his career.

I mean Gazzaniga hasn't been included in any matchday squad so far this season. And Gedson played just an hour in the league cup match against Chelsea. So they already know they are excluded and getting on with it. I think there's a UEFA rule just for this year that states if we have too many positive Covid-19 cases, then we may play players who aren't registered for the competition, but are our players.

Yeah, agree that it'd be best for CCV to leave for his own sake. I guess we can afford to keep that last homegrown spot empty because our squad depth already looks impressive on paper.

How good does everyone think our squad based on u25 players is at present?

Austin, Whiteman, Tanganga, Sanchez, Malachi-Walcott, Carter-Vickers, Regulion, Sessegnon, Cirkin, Winks, Skipp, White, Devine, Hojbjerg, Gedson, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Dele, Bergwijn, Clarke, Vinícius, Parrott.

Not a bad looking list of 22. Youthful depth required in goal and right side/ central defence which probably explains our interest in Rodon for the right price long term.

Amazing how a few windows of investments can make a dead and limping team look so full of fresh ideas and verve. Very content with the long term focus whilst staying competitive in the here and now in all honesty, fair play to the board and management for doing so.

Gazzaniga and Gedson left out of new EL squad, as probably expected, we simply have too many overseas trained players to fit into EL squad. Rose also left out

Lets see if either or both make the PL squad, as with differing defininitions of players, Davies is regarded as HG freeing up an overseas trained player place whilst Gedson is regarded as an u21 this season. On the other hand if we are planning other player purchases from EFL this summer, there still may not be room !

Is Doherty homegrown for EL?

Carter-Vickers (Club Trained)
Hojbjerg
Son
Winks (Club Trained)
Bale (Club Trained)
Lamela
Sissoko
Lo Celso
Dele (Association Trained)
Bergwijn

Total 25 (plus List B players including Tanganga, Austin, White, Cirkin, other u21;s)

So interesting that CCV makes the squad but Gazzaniga and Gedson do not - but one of them could have if CCV had not been in squad.

Probably means CCV staying at Spurs as extra cover as CB/FB.

Also looks as if Clarke might be staying - although when he would play with the 6 AM's in front of him is unclear. Better on loan if he plays a lot to get more experience, if a suitable club to loan him to can be found.

I asked and someone came back with this

“ @AlasdairGold said Doherty can't count to be AT quota, I guess that because of he was loaned out to Hibernian in Jan 2012 so he can't completed stay with Wolves in 36 months between age 18-21”

EL squad above would still work if Doherty was consided an overseas trained player as that would mean we had 17 overseas trained players and only 3 Association trained.

He was born on 16 January 1992 so aged 21 on 16 January 2001, but that means that for season 2013/14 he is still considered an u21. Doherty joined Wolves for 10/11 season so 10/11, 11/12, 12/13 and 13/14 so he has 3 and a half seasons at Wolves, and a half at Hibernian so IMO he is Association trained not Overseas trained. I think !
