Anyone thinking that this was some kind of miraculous episode of desperate defending against valiant superiors either didn’t watch the game or doesn’t understand the game. We were superb. We were totally in control. We contained them and pulled the trigger of our counter attacking pistol when it mattered.

This is exactly how to win games. It’s called tactics and game plan.

mourinho masterclass.

i do think we could go toe to toe with them and beat them but it could go either way, mourinho takes no chances and chooses the optimal strategy

After scraping a few wins with average performances, today is a proper test of where we are at and the start of a tough run.

I hope we are at it from the first whistle, can’t be taking 45 minutes to get going like usual or it could end in disaster.

At least Man City will come out and attack, hopefully leaving room for Son, Kane, Bale to exploit. They are there for the taking today, come on the boys.
Up the fucking yids

Incredible masterclass today. I think it was a dead cert that Mourinho would adopt this tactic (again) against City but to make it work requires a well drilled, disciplined, motivated and fit team. Hats of to the boss & the players. Worked so well that we were the better side in the 2nd half and City had no answers...outstanding defending leading to City overplaying or over hitting his passes out for GK’s.

This is why there will always be question marks around Pep too. For someone billed as a progressive, he is stubbornly rigid in his thinking and style .

Anyway, I’ll let the oil sheikhs worry about that.

Not sure that I can give a MoM after that. Seems a bit pointless when the whole team put in such an incredibly physical performance just a couple of days after flying around the world playing in pointless international friendlies.

Top of tree tonight feels good but there is a long way to go yet. Loving the ‘one game at a time’ mentality from the coach/players too

Really does show how smart Jose is.

Pep, for all he has achieved, has only done so with the very best players in the world. We saw today where he put out a good, but not unbeatable team, how he is too rigid in his philosophy. He knew what he wanted to do, Jose knew what he wanted to do, Pep knew what Jose would do, and yet, he played right into Jose's hands.

Pep plays his team the same way every game, except when he doesn’t and “overthinks it”. He is incapable of being successfully flexible. It is why he hasn’t been able to win the CL since he hasn’t had Messi on his side.

same result as last seasons match and on the surface would appear to be a similar story

however we were hanging on for our lives in that match and were extremely lucky to get that result.

Today we were in complete control and never looked like conceding while also looking a threat at times on the counter
