Transfers Have we re-signed Christian Eriksen yet?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

The majority of this is fair enough. Hazard literally single handedly won chelsea the Europa because he was determined to leave chelsea on a high while Eriksen was sulking Madrid didn't come in for him and was piss poor in the champions league final. He got his wish to go fair enough now he wants to trundle back with his tail between his legs after all of that. No thank you he's had his time here time I think it's a backward step considering his form over the last 2 and a half years and the wages he would be asking for(which was on the table for him to sign for 3 years that he refused)and think we would be best of investing time and money in a fresher younger up and coming player.
I will agree with this, I'm not a huge fan of his returning - mostly because I don't think he downed tools on us...I just don't think he's very good anymore. He didn't have any reason to be shit at Inter, and yet he was.

What about the Eriksen of 2020/21 as that's the guy we'd be getting back?
I do agree that those knocking his last 18 months are doing him a disservice as he wasn't actually that bad in his last full season, but his last 6 months here were really quite poor and things don't seem to have been any better at Milan.

As I said earlier in the thread if he genuinely wants to be here and wants to perform then I'd be happy to see him come back, but I'm not sure that's going to happen. I get the impression his heart isn't in it any more and I'm not sure who we drop from our squads to fit him in.

Well, hard to evaluate him in there right now, ainnit?

And of course i agree with you - it could only work if we could believe he would be motivated to put in an effort. That is the first assumption that has to be filled.
Generally I believe he could regain the passion. Despite his last months with us, he seemed like a reasonable fella or... good kid. I think that this experience with Inter might have shaken things up but I do not think he has given up on football. I can kind of understand his point of wanting a new challenge. It did not work out but that does not automatically mean that he would have been given up on football (and his career) for good.

Posts like this are the epitome of the worst thing about discussing football. People take any stats, without context, to suit their agenda.

You're comparing a player who joined the club, has had a few niggly injuries, settling into a team that was playing awfully (post CL final) and playing in a much deeper role with someone who's been here years, who was the sole creativity and who took almost all set pieces in an AM3 role.

Whether GLC will hit the stats of peak Eriksen is neither here nor there. I've personally seen enough to suggest that if he can get himself fit he will be a very valuable member of this squad. He put in many MOTM performances last season when the team was in disarray and I know from just watching games that he has definitely been on the unluckier side of things when it comes to players finishing their chances that he's set up.

Another thing to consider is the style we now play. GLC will be the guy that assists the assist on the counter (see Southampton away for example). Do you really think Eriksen will be racking up similar stats to his peak in this Mourinho team?

I could go on and on. Without even directly comparing the two there are lots of variables that have to be considered to even make it a fair argument. We paid a lot of money because he produced the goods at Betis and I've seen enough glimpses at Spurs, in an injury hit spell, to know that your bolded statement is fucking ridiculous (especially given Eriksen literally went through whole games without doing anything). Put a fit GLC in the Spurs of 2017 behind Kane/Son/Dele or put Eriksen in 2021 Spurs in a CM2/3 and you will see completely different results.

"epitome of the worst thing about discussing football" ... ah, I am in a decent mood and I don't want to get personal... I mean it is possible to discuss things in civil way, though I have to say that this term first annoyed me a lot.

I understand what you are saying generally. Lo Celso by his playing style could impact games with less on goals+assists level. I agree. And I would not be even bringing out those numbers if it would have been a close call. Say Eriksen with 10+16 and Lo Celso 9+9 or smth.

But my point generally is - Lo Celso in grand scheme of things has been useless. I know it sounds harsh, but this season... he has barely played. Last season there was like 2-3 months when he showed promise, but I never felt he actually impacted the game nearly as much as Eriksen did even in his last full season (which was way off his best form). Yet there are people who are talking about how Lo Celso is better or even comparable to Bruno Fernandes etc.

I absolutely wish that GLC would turn out to be super influential player for us in the future, but up to now I dont have much grounds to hope that. His passing is not as good, his thinking is not as quick, I don't generally believe he is creative enough to play as nr 10 nor in front 3. Maybe as part of CM3 but he has hardly played there up to now.

His last full season for us was 18/19
It is now 21 and he stopped performing in the above referenced season.
May as well give Gazza a call if your criteria is simply "they were good in their last full season for us"

That is not the point.
I was just pointing out that ppl were saying how shit he was in his last 18 months. Those figures were just to prove it wrong. And to compare it to very-very little that player we almost paid 50 mil for has given us.

Always went missing in big games too.

Just watched him playing as a DLP for Inter against Fiorentina in the coppa italia last week and he was disciplined in his positioning for most of the game, though the pace was slower than you would face in the PL. Unsurprisingly, the defensive effort wasnt there and he had the luxury of Vidal and Gagliardini, but still seem to cover a lot of ground and controlled the tempo of the game reasonably. Overall, he didnt look out of place.
He had a good game, don't know why Conte didn't deploy him there earlier. He covered 16.5 km, more than any other player from both teams combined. Not impressive overall, but something he can build on.

Look it’s not going to happen as neither Levy or Mourinho would have him back. Having said that, would he be an upgrade on some of the existing players we have - probably? I actually think he would suit Mourinhos style of play quite well. A midfielder who can get it out of defence quickly and get it to our front 3, or Ndombele, would be an asset. He should be in the prime of his career, he was a very good player and arguably our most important for many years. Too bad his head got bigger than the ball

Eriksen

FOR
1. No Injuries -
Eriksen turns 29 next month. He has NEVER had an injury. He's missed 17 games in his entire career
2. Hit the ground running - Knows the club, players and coach. Crucially, knows Kane and Son's style.
3. Assist and goals - We badly need somebody else to score and assist goals. He is one of the best in recent EPL history.
4. Fee. Transfer fee unlikely to be high. Probably less than we sold him for.

AGAINST
5. Lo Celso -
Where does this leave Lo Celso (apart from the physio table).
6. Mental - Is his head still in it?
7. Form - Not been on top form for 18 months
8. Evolution - We have an ageing squad, should we be using the money to bring in a younger player for the future?
